its a 9 in 1 steam mop and it is the most fun ive had cleaning in ages! my home is now hygienically steamed....no mean feat with dogs, cats, rats, kids....

its this one

its fab.
its got emulsion of window frames, the cupboard fronts were so easy it was a joy, the hob, the stainless steel splashback, the fridge, the floors, the tiles, the shower door.....all sparkling and done in seconds.

it was a cleaning revelation.
im now addicted to steaming stuff....including my thumb...which is dont recommend cos that hurts.

the reviews are not wrong on this one....
(morphy richards - commission please!)

I've got a steam cleaner, but I want one of the kettle-type ones.

ThisBitchIsResting · 26/05/2014 20:56

Ok I might have to take the plunge if you can clean ovens with it. And shower screens.

Lioninthesun · 26/05/2014 21:00

Only thing I would say (although I am also sorely tempted) is to keep a real mop for floods. I know, a little bit 'out there' but I felt a complete prat telling my builder that I was using blankets to soak up the water as all I had was a steam mop, dammit Grin

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/05/2014 01:08

i have a real mop....

this is much more fun though.

i have today done all my windows - they are gleaming! and it took mere minutes.
i love this machine.

ive no doubt there are others more powerful but for the price this is just brilliant.

i did the toilet today.....its not that old. the stuff that came off the hinges should not have been seen by human eye...

you can steam your toilet bowl....(excitement!!)

i keep finding new things to steam!
i have tried it on my leather sofa - its fine for a light clean but dont overdo it or it will ruin it - mine is ruined anyway so i had nothing to lose!

a light once over would be fine and then condition the leather.

over do it and the leather goes stiff.

so far ive done the kitchen tops, cupboard fronts, cooker hood, splashback, tiles, floor, taps, sink, window frames and glass, outside and inside, laminate floor, carpets, bin, sofa, and i keep finding new things to do.....
i bloody love this steam thing! dh is bemused. i never clean....and now i cant stop.....

So if you clean a dirty kitchen floor, do you sweep the floor to remove loose bits, then steam clean? Where does all the dirt go (does it have a removable head that needs cleaning?)

Sorry, a bit clueless never having used one before. You make it sound so easy, vicar!

daisychain01 · 27/05/2014 06:10

Glad it cleans the toilet bowl. Means I can put the sand-blaster away Grin

daisychain01 · 27/05/2014 06:28

The mopheads cost £10 for pack of 2. I expect you can put them in the washing machine?

daisychain01 · 27/05/2014 06:40

It probably is worth reading the reviews, mentions the weight (as I have very weak wrists) www.amazon.co.uk/review/R1GYU4L1EKOT6H/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R1GYU4L1EKOT6H

FreeLikeABird · 27/05/2014 06:53

Ooooh soooo tempted, off to have a good read!

FruVikingessOla · 27/05/2014 19:39

OK, Vicar, mine arrived today from Amazon (2 days early!). So, having put it all together (a tad fiddly - but not complicated), I've done a bit of steam mopping this afternoon. So far, so good! But no time for anything major yet.

Like your DH, my DP is also slightly bemused by my entrancement with this thing, given that, I too, am not a domestic goddess!!

GiveTwoSheets · 27/05/2014 21:19

Yes daisychain you have got to sweep up bits first, after i done kitchen floor the pad needed to go in washing machine it was rank. Using it as a mop is light but as an attachment its not that light and bit awkward to hold probably why I've only used it for floors only so far.

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/05/2014 00:27

......so....let me know what you make of it Fru.....its the hand held bit i love....so versatile and steamy.....

the mop heads go in the washer and you get 2 so you can wash one and use the other...

you need to vacuum up the bits first for best results.

i am currently admiring my bedroom window.....it was mouldy. its now gleaming! )
its all very exciting and yes
im a saddo.

I've got this one also morphy Richards

www.amazon.co.uk/Morphy-Richards-Essentials-70455-Compact/dp/B001LK8RMG/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1401235714&sr=8-16&keywords=morphy+richards+steam+cleaner

Only my version is about 8/9 years old its still going strong and is brilliant

alabasterangel · 28/05/2014 09:38

Ok, so advise me..... will this gadget freshen up and get rid of light stains on a pileless rug?

I posted in housekeeping yesterday and someone suggested a steam mop. I've got a big rug, that I love, but it's just been hammered. It's really pale (duck egg and cream) and has no pile, it's like a chenile type fabric, so more like upholstery than carpet. It smells a bit where DS has had a couple of potty training accidents, and despite sponging straight away it smells a bit nasty and fusty. It also just needs a general clean as we have an open fire and the soot contributes.

A professional dry clean would be 100 which is abortive really. If I could get one of these cleaners for 60 and do the job and other things too, then it would be technically cheaper. But I'd need to know if it'll work first to justify the cost!

SnowCoveredHills · 28/05/2014 15:56

I gleefully announced to DP that a Steam Mop was the answer to all our dog and laziness related dirt problems.

He told me it doesn't work on Karndean Flooring. Sad

Is this true? Will it melt my floor adhesive?

Even if I can't use it on the actual floor, is it worth it anyway for the handheld wonder?

CoastingAlongSlowly · 28/05/2014 16:31

'Ive joined in and bought one too, anything to make my life easier! haha!.. Do I need to buy them pads separately that go in the washing machine or does it come with them??

JammyDodger1 · 28/05/2014 16:34

I have a cheap steamer which I bought to see if I used it, but the material bit you put over the edge won't tighten enough so it falls off as I steam Sad is this an issue with this one?

FruVikingessOla · 28/05/2014 16:52

Still only done a few minor bits & pieces today. I didn't have the ionised water yesterday (and we are in a hard water area), but I got some today.

TBH, I can't actually face doing too much until the weather gets better, when I can see what the results are!!

I think I'd like to buy a few more of the spare cloths, too.

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/05/2014 17:10

i use it on laminate floor - it doesnt leave it wet so i think it would be fine on amy other hard floors.

the material bit on this one has a really good overlap and a very long cord to tighten it with
on my old one (vax) the cloth comes off but not on the morphy richards one.

OP posts:
Suzannewithaplan · 28/05/2014 17:15

I didn't have the ionised water yesterday

are you saying it only takes 'special' water? Hmm

also some of the reviews mention that steam cleaners are not so good at getting stains out of carpets...can anyone confirm?

HexBramble · 28/05/2014 17:19

I love the smell of a certain wood floor cleaner how sad am I? so if using steam alone, how do you get that lovely clean smell? I fear my house will be clean with the steam, but still smell of husband, feral children and incontinent but very loveable cat.

HexBramble · 28/05/2014 17:21

and what about limescale stains on my glass shower door? will it help?

LIZS · 28/05/2014 17:29

Got same on I think . Yes it will get limescale off shower screen et al. I have however found that if you use it on painted surfaces it can lift the paint and the attachments aren't that robust and can work loose with pressure (not ideal with hot steam around) . Good buy though . Today did kitchen cupboard fronts and wooden floors. Can you add anything to the water to freshen it up ?

FruVikingessOla · 28/05/2014 17:43

Apparently if you're in a hard water area (we are) then it's better to use ionised (or distilled water). We've always used tap water in our steam irons without any problems over the years, but I thought I'd play safe with the steam mop!

LIZS · 28/05/2014 17:50

Using tap water invalidates the guarantee. You can buy bottles in Robert Dyas et al.
