Grin I did wonder about the ants!

Scout19075 · 05/01/2012 19:47

MrScout's going to be late again. Sad So dinner on my own (again) then I'm going to do all of today's dishes and get a bag of donations into the car for tomorrow. In the morning we're going to meet some friends at soft play (I know most people seem to hate them but I don't mind them since normally where and when we go there's only half-a-dozen kids) so I'll try to get into town to drop them off. I have lots to go for donation but can only carry so much with Toddler. Next month is my Guide unit's annual jumble sale so will keep some back to donate to that, too.

Scout19075 · 05/01/2012 19:48

My uncle likes chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers.

bessie26 · 05/01/2012 20:06

scout don't you get charity bags pushed through your letterbox? We get one or two every month & always assumed everyone got them?

we have one really nice soft play place near us, and several that are a bit too grubby for my liking

red have you tried vinegar?

live I will be buying some tictacs at the earliest opportunity to try cleaning my oven door!

DH & I went to a restaurant in London once where he had grasshopper (or maybe locust?), followed by zebra, and his pudding had honeycomb & a bee on it! Luckily their veggie selections was delicious, so I didn't have to eat any weird animals Grin

redlac · 05/01/2012 20:13

I haven't tried vinegar but I have tried a wee tip I saw on Pinterest with baking soda and a wet cloth but didn't make much difference Blush. Will try vinegar and buy tic tacs!

My Sis & BIL used to live in china and ate all that sort of malarky regularly

liveinazoo · 05/01/2012 20:16

we get loads charity bags through the door.dispatch 2 binbags worth of stuff out this morning, carefully anchoring it with a brick to prevent it sailing off down the road!

liveinazoo · 05/01/2012 20:18

mix the soda with vinegar or lemon to a pasteWink.that also good for shining sinks.rinse well and buff to dazzling shine

redlac · 05/01/2012 20:22

Guess what will be on my to do list tomorrow! Thank you

Scout19075 · 05/01/2012 20:30

bessie We do, but they always seem to be from some random charity that I've never heard of. There's a British Heart Foundation shop in town (as well as a couple of others) and as a cardiac baby (and adult!) I'll admit to a soft spot for the American and British Heart Foundations. I use the bags pushed through the door in my nappy bag for wet clothes as the result of nappy fails. Blush

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 21:13

Evening everyone! It has taken me quite a while to catch up on the thread. Everyone is doing brilliantly Grin

On the cooker front, I have started using an ice scraper for the car to clean my ceramic hob. It does the job for the day's dried in splatters but doesn't get the ground in rings off. I have an orange bottle of stuff a bit like Jif (showing my age there) for cleaning ceramic hobs but it still takes a good bit of elbow grease to make an impact and it takes some cleaning off too.

Most of my plastic tubs are from Tesco. They often do a deal where they are reduced and you can buy 3 for 2, especially at this time of year as it is the traditional declutter, tidy new toys etc season. If I see a deal I will let you know.

The crystal ones are often in the JoJoMaman catalogue in a special offer too although I am not convinced they are great value as they are still quite expensive.

Another thing which works well for small toys is a plastic drawer unit - they can get them out by themselves and just pull out one drawer at a time. We have a couple of them in the bottom of ds's wardrobe.

It was lovely to come home to a tidyish house and no dishes out. I emptied the dishwasher straight away so all this evening's dishes could go straight into the dishwasher so my sink stays shiny Grin

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 22:22

this might help

bessie26 · 05/01/2012 23:07

Oooh thanks carrots

A magic eraser might clean your hob? We use one to clean the stainless steel splash back type thing on the hob. They are also very good for getting rid of the marks that plastic toys leave on baths, and the black marks left by shoes on doors/skirting boards/walls!

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 06/01/2012 08:21

Eggrules · 06/01/2012 11:07

BlackCat I agree that starting babysteps doesn't keep the house in order - it may get sorted eventually if you do the zones?

carrots they look fab. Will look on Tesco direct later.

I have an electric steam cleaner. It is fab for windows and ovens.

I have not been sleeping well and so had my first lie in for about a year - until 10:30 Grin. DH did the school run. I feel much better so off for a shower.

Have a good day babysteppers. Brew

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 11:07

Morning all!

I had a bad night with ds again too. He was up at 1am trying to watch tv. I got him settled until 5ish but he has been up since then.

We are just about to head off for a walk with the dog and hopefully to clear our heads.

So far:
Finished my book Grin
Washed and dressed to gardening clogs Blush Shock
Folded yesterday's washing and put away (and put items for ironing on the ironing board)
Put on today's load of washing
Made sure breakfast dishes are in the dishwasher
Had 2 Brew (one was a full caffeine one too) in an attempt to get myself out of my sleep fog

To do:
Ironing and some of back log
Hot spot kitchen table
Keep on top of dishes and worktops

For those of you decluttering we have started a motivational thread in the ebay section (£300 by Easter) if any of you want to try to turn some of your decluttering into cold hard cash. I did it in the run up to Christmas and made somewhere between £250 and £300 on clutter and outgrown clothes and was truely Shock by what I made. I made it part of my flylady routine to write up a couple of items a day, then list them on a Sunday night for maximum selling price and post most of them on a Monday. Feel very welcome if you want to join in there too.

liveinazoo · 06/01/2012 11:21

hi all!i popped in earlier and no one had posted since my last effort so stuck head under the stairs and cracked on..i now have all jigsaws in upstairs toy cupboard.newest board games are takingtheir place.eventually i will have to cull lots but at least for now its all getting a proper usable place to live.i may even have room in there when im done to put ironing board under thereShock
has any one else got a "hellhole""?mines def my room.i switched with with the girls just before had 5 months subsidance work/rewiring done and everything migrates ionto my room......had it not been for flying i think even the kitchen sink wouldve got fed up and crawled in thereGrin

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 13:22

We went to to the park & playground this morning for a good run-around in the cold & sunshine. I combined it with taking out the trash and recycling and the recycling to the tip (our curbside recycling doesn't take certain things but the recycling at the tip does). Also treated TS to a drink & snack at the grocery store while we were out and there getting the last bits for dinner tonight. Did my 15 minutes declutter & 15 Fling Thing in the entryway.

Still need to:
strip beds
launderette for sheets/towels (including TS's new bedding for his soon-to-be big boy bed)
make up beds
scrub toilet
kitchen -- 15 minute declutter

liveinazoo · 06/01/2012 14:03

scoutyouve been busy
ive finally found homes for all the kids xmas gifts/tidy under the stairs....i just have a 12 box storage shelf thingy to sift through and put in order.even used some of my qauality street tin collectionBlush to house jigsaws that boxs have dissintgrated.
for the 1st time ever my front room doesnt look like a kids centre post play...all that i have left in here on show is a playmobil grande mansion.im beside myself with joyGrin.its guna be sooo nice later to sit in here when the kids have gone to bed and it will resemble an adult space
hope flyings going as well in your homes today.will pop back and see how ev1 elses day has gone

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 14:11

We have been for a very muddy walk but it was great fun. Ds got so dirty we had to strip him in the vestibule Shock The dog was cleaner!

We also had a potter around the next village (ours is tiny) as the dcs were keen to spend a little of their Christmas money.

Since we got back I have done the ironing (so that ds had clean trousers to wear) and made everyone lunch.

The washing machine should be finished by now so that will be my next job.

I will get into the big jobs next week when the dcs go back to school.

live those who have flown with me will know that my hell hole was our study. It took me nearly a year to get to the bottom of it but I did it and turned the room into a music room and den for the dcs (we have a drumkit, guitars, violins and stands and a large keyboard to accommodate). It also has the filing cabinet in it and the desk top computer and a normal desk (although the desk is now the home of the keyboard so can't really be used).

It was a big job but has made a big difference to the rest of the house. It has also meant we have a better hope of getting on top of our filing. Dh needed an insurance form last night and could find it straight away.

So flylady does work if you are patient.

The other thing I did while we were out was buy a little cash book so I can keep track of my spending over the next couple of months. Money is a bit tight right now and I think if I write down my spending it will help me see where the money goes and also make me think twice if I have to write down that I bought Maltesers Blush

bessie26 · 06/01/2012 14:25

carrots file them under "petty cash"! I kept a log when I was a teenager of all the money I had coming in & going out (I had a saturday job & babysat) - I 'hid' all my spending on fags under 'misc'! That year I earnt £1200 & spent £1100 (alot of it on vinyl )

I have both the girls at home with me on mondays & fridays, so don't get much flying done. This morning DD1 & I did lots of painting while DD2 napped. Unfortunately, my lovely tablecloth is now stained blue from paint Sad Milton doesn't seem to be shifting it - any other suggestions?

Sounds like we all had a bad night with the DC - I was up 12-3 with DD2 Am just going to get tea prepped up & then have a quick lie down Grin
