June know it's the fledgling flyers?

A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

sorry, Toffee just noticed the tooth enquiry. Yes entirely normal, not a sign anything wrong with treatment. Poor you. I think you need to be ds2's patient.

supper is cooked, and I'm off out for a drink at 8pm! Very dodgy moment when friends suggested they might convene here! NOOOO, I'll have to throw everything in a cupboard including dh. Luckily they changed mind.

Toffeefudgecake · 02/06/2011 19:10

Very reassuring to hear that tooth grumblings are normal. Thank you. Am drinking wine now, which seems to be sorting out the pain beautifully!

Tricky afternoon. First, DS2 wanted to go out, but DS1 didn't. Then, DS1 wanted to go out, but DS2 didn't. Then DS2 was persuaded, but DS1 had a strop about something so he changed his mind. Then I had them both crying Confused. Managed to calm them both down and practically grabbed the bottle off DH when he came in an hour later.

Might be back later.

Stillchuckingit · 02/06/2011 19:45

Toffee poor you with the teeth [hands over oil of cloves] Sorry you are still suffering ...

Ellie if it's any consolation I've given in this evening (dh and dd watching Dr Who re-runs) AND I'm drinking wine ...

Didn't do one thing Fly-related today except cook and stack and unstack the dishwasher, but I did play snakes & ladders, multiplication dominoes, paint a fruit still life, played an invented game cross between petanque and bowls (using corks, a hoop and a frisbee), played 5 games of Connect 4, 2 games of Frustration, undressed, bathed and dressed two "babies" and took them out for a walk in a doll stroller, watched while dd tortured played with the guinea pigs and had a bear/tiger/frog picnic on the lawn.

And what was supposed to be veggie night has now turned in to steak and veggie night because of anaemia problem and red meat craving (was doing the veggie thing for health and environmental reasons)

So a day full of transgressions ...

I had a near miss CHAOS moment too Swan when a friend of mine telephoned and said "I'm just walking past your house which reminded me that I need to talk to you about x ..." at which point throwing caution to the wind (and playing a Fly version of Russian roulette) I said "would you like to come in?" and was hugely relieved when they said "thanks, no time but xxx" Phhhheeewww!!!

Must try and do better tomorrow. Playing with dd is important but can't really enjoy and relax the holiday when everywhere is a pig-sty. And for the moment, everywhere is at that point where it's only a superficial pig-sty iyswim and reasonably easy, with a bit of effort, to turn around, but if I don't act it will soon degrade in to slogsville, if that makes sense and having made hard-won progress, I really DON'T want that to happen again.

Rant over!

Hopefully dh can be persuaded to take dd out for a while tomorrow ...

Sorry everyone

That all seems a bit pathetic with only one child to look after doesn't it?

I don't know how the rest of you manage it!

My "cuddly" teenagers are eating me out of house and home this week.

I hope everyone's days have improved, for those who were not having the best of days!

My "smooth" transition of internet was about as smooth as sleeping with a porcupine!!! Ok at the moment, but daren't be too long tapping because it could go any second. Hmm

I am still besotted with my lovely washing machine, which does such huge loads that my washbins are empty every few days! Its great!! Grin >

Just got back from the hairdressers where I was a model for DD3 to do my hair as part of her training. Feeling all swishy headed again. Love that feeling!!

I have been in work at 6am every day this week, I'll be glad when they are back at school!!

I'll wave goodnight while my internet is behaving. Smile

PositiveAttitude · 02/06/2011 20:35

Phew.that was close, I did a copy and paste job because internet went just at the crucial time!! >

Stillchuckingit · 02/06/2011 21:24

How clever of you to have a hairdresser in the family PA!! Definite perk to have a skilled teenager in the house...

Only just got dd off to sleep Blush we are an hour ahead here remember ...so if you don't mind, posting steps early again as I want a bit of time alone with the remote ...normal service and round-ups will resume after the hols ...

I always said I wanted a car mechanic, a hairdresser and a decorator. So far I have a training accountant, a youth worker, a hairdresser, a budding chef and a layabout (she cant decide what she wants to do, but she is still only 13, so a few years to get her act together) One out of 5 isnt too bad, I suppose! Confused

Stillchuckingit · 02/06/2011 21:37

Baby-step no.3 for Friday 3 June is an easy one here (just repeat shining your sink and lacing up yr shoes)

Tomorrow we will still be in Zone 1, the entrance hall, front porch and dining room. Try and declutter in this zone for 15 mins.

Friday's mission, when the Fat Fairy website updates itself tomorrow mornng, will appear here!

But if you want a sneak peak at what's in store look here (de-cobwebbing your dining room including light fitting)

Friday's (if you are following the Fat Fairy's basic weekly plan here) is dedicated to paper-work and other miscellaneous tasks that suit your schedule

I'll try and be back later!!

Evening all! Not a bad day today flying wise. I won't bore you all with the details but i have a relatively clean and tidy house, clean pots and pans and sink, clean clothes(nearly all in wardrobes) and a tidy garden that no longer looks like the local branch of toys r us!

Dd has been much better behaved today although she did have a couple of hours this afternoon where she was horrible to ds and spent more time on the step than anywhere else. But much improved on yesterday. Couldn't have been any bloody worse Grin.

We have decided to take advantage of the good weather and head up to the caravan again this weekend but this time dh will be able to come. So tomorrow i will be up and at em to get packed and get off mid morning hopefully. Dh is going to join us after work so want to leave a nice tidy house to come back to on Sunday ready for the return to work on Monday.

pa we know an electrician, a mechanic, a washing machine repair man and lots of builders. I am planning to suggest Ds becomes a plumber Grin.

Big waves to everyone. See you tomorrow!

BlueEyeshadow · 02/06/2011 22:52

Managed the hoovering today because the boys were in the garden - DS2 is still terrified of the noise. DH is home tomorrow so I should at least get a bit of work done. Unfortunately they won't be able to go to the CM next week either. It seems awful to moan about the inconvenience in the circumstances, but I'm not sure what I'll be able to do about it. :(

That's an awful lot of playing, SC! I managed to play catch for a while. Was going to play a game after lunch but he wanted to do lego and then got cross with me for encouraging him. Confused

Glad you're still enjoying the washing machine PA - I'm still like that about the dishwasher. Grin

Hope the tooth is better tomorrow Toffee.

Waves to everyone else. Night all.

Toffeefudgecake · 02/06/2011 22:53

Still - my first DS was incredibly hard work when he was an 'only', so I sympathise. It's not necessarily easier with just one.

Night all.

saffronwblue · 03/06/2011 01:41

Thanks for warm welcome everyone. My desexed dog is female and is recovering by chewing up an armchair.
How does the flylady know that my dining room lightfitting is dusty and cobwebby? it is very spooky..I will try to address it tonight.
No school holidays here in Australia now but muddy DCs with colds lying around on the couch.

NettieSpaghetti · 03/06/2011 06:51

Good morning, duvet typing again. Dd playing in her room she has been up since 6.

Yesterdays list

Get up-done
Clear breakfast things-done
Tidy away dc pjs-hmm
Make sure they are dressed for nursery-done
Washing mountain move on-done
Dw on-done
Get ready for work whilst dh drops dc at nursery-done
Work-done
Home dc fed and bed-and bathed as covered in dirt and sand
Gym-done
Put away shopping delivery-done was hoping dh would do as arriving whilst I'm at gym but no.
Me fed and bed-done

That's not terribly exciting and i doubt if today will be better. Ever so
Slightly jealous of the idea of half term with dc. Mine still at nursery this week. Some mummy friends are having playdate lunches. Envy But I'm sure novelty would wear off quickly. Grin

Today's plan
Get up etc etc
Hang out washing
Drop dc off nursery
Work
Pick dc up
Get dry cleaning from shop Blush before they sell it!
Strip beds and remake
Washing on
Flake on sofa!

Enjoyed reading everyone's activities yesterday Blush can't remember a hoot!!

Have lovely days and weekends if you don't pop back in.

feetheart · 03/06/2011 08:10

Morning - seem to be watching skateboarding with DS on some extreme sports channel. With his ability to damage himself I'm not sure he should be encouraged but hey ho :)

Welcome saffron - messy house making you feel bad sounds very familiar. The state of my house, and other people's inability to see it or do anything about it, really effects how I am feeling. Flylady has helped lots, I now have a decent routine that works well when I follow it and I know that with a bit of effort I can tame the monster when it feels out of control - like today! Half-term and camping after-effects are taking their toll. Today is TIDY UP DAY

  • Morning routine PROPERLY
  • Camping stuff AWAY
  • Car finally emptied
  • Washing LOTS
  • Bags, etc back in loft

After that I may attempt a few room rescues - living room and kitchen look like dumping grounds and the whole of upstairs is a disgrace - arrrrrrrgh.

Best get on then...................

elliepac · 03/06/2011 08:31

Morning all! Nearly all packed for the weekend and downstairs is tidy so am just going to do a quick sweep round upstairs and then we will be off! Via Tesco and my mums house to feed her cats.

Have a lovely weekend everyone in case i dont get back on until Sunday!

feetheart · 03/06/2011 08:57

Have a lovely w/e ellie

elliepac · 03/06/2011 09:01

Thank feet Smile.

Stillchuckingit · 03/06/2011 10:06

Hope you have a really great time Ellie I really admire your discipline fitting in all that housework in between your heavy work-load. You really deserve a bit of r & r this w/e!!

Thank you Toffee That makes me feel slightly less hopeless!! Dh is going to occupy dd today so that I can get on (we've had another lazy morning so far)

Sorry about your cm situation Blue hope you can find a temporary solution

Ah Saffron the Fat Fairy has an all-seeing eye! (She knows my master bedroom is in turmoil again) Hope your dcs feel better soon and glad the dog is on the mend!

Hi Nettie sympathies ... dd was up at 6.30 am too ...despite going to bed so late. I'll be with you in spirit working through a terribly boring list ... mine is from Monday Blush

Right ... I am going to step away from the screen and try and actually accomplish something. Not at all sure my Flying credentials this week qualify me to be thread leader Blush

Have a good day everyone!!

OP posts:
Makingchanges · 03/06/2011 10:09

Have a nice weekend Ellie
Still my DD is an only child and she can be incredibly demanding when she wants to be. I sometimes think its because she's got noone else to play with other than me and DH.

Well I managed to do the 3 maths lesson plans yesterday and the three loads of washing. Spend an hour tidying under the stairs (although it still looks bad even though I chucked a black bag full of rubbish out).

Jobs for today

  • DD to hairdressers
  • Library to take back overdue books Blush
  • Post office to post parcel I didn't post yesterday
  • Another 15 minutes in master bedroom
  • Another 15 minutes under stairs
  • 3 more lesson plans - Pe, Dance and Topic Hmm
  • Hoover through (Again didn't get done yesterday)

Have a good day everyone

BlueEyeshadow · 03/06/2011 10:09

Grrr. On the phone to the bank. Hold music...
Now on the phone to Tesco...
Eventually got through and the nice lady found me an extra £10 off. :)

Have a great time ellie. Hi saffron, feet, Nettie.

Oh dear, can hear the boys fighting downstairs and I forgot about putting the washing out. I'm supposed to be working so will have to trust DH to sort it out!

BlueEyeshadow · 03/06/2011 10:12

Cross-posted with SC and MC - waves.

LadyInPink · 03/06/2011 10:26

Morning all Smile

Sorry i've been awol the last few days but half term and work has made life even busier. Have managed the bare minimum in tidying and cleaning so far so the place still looks a sight.

So far have:

1 load of washing on last spin so will hang out in a min
Bundled DD and best friend to beach with DH for the morning
Cleaned out the plastic play house - the girls thought they would helpful by hosing it all down but left it all mucky and yucky and if you want a job done properly...........
Some office work done

Still to do:

Collect prescription from Dr
Redeem it at the chemist
Water MIL plants as she is in spain for 2 wks
Take girls to feed the ducks
Cook lunch and dinner and provide snacks periodically for them
Go out for a meal for a friends birthday tonight

Hope you are all enjoying the lovely sunshine where you are. It's 24 degrees here!

swanriver · 03/06/2011 10:30

MC like the idea of a dance lesson plan. I think it is wonderful what planning can do,it spins straw into gold doesn't it? Very impressed by your teacher skills.

SC also veryimpressed by all the lovely things you do with your dd. No wonder my dd feels shortchanged...Yesterday she was howling because I went out for a drink (went to the shop for catfood in my party dress, and then jumped in a car with friends, and she didn't see me in between so she was a bit Confused)
Drink was very nice, one friend battling with documentaries and another selling jewellery and discussing market forces etc...A lot of talk about how we had no evenings after the children were put to bed...I presume this can only get worse with the cuddly teenager factor...

Done
another beautiful morning in the garden
dd to tennis camp for two hours
ds1 to multisports for 7 hours
ds2 has gone to the barber with his dad (who is off today)

The house is an absolute slum. I have failed miserably to the most basic washing and tidying. Dh is beginning to comment. But today I cam going to tackle it, and get back to the lovely sparkly house that was there on Tuesday Hmm Come out come out whereever you are, house!

Blue that must be very difficult indeed.

Nettie no Mummy lunch playdates here - am I going wrong somewhere? Grin
