June know it's the fledgling flyers?

A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

I'd assumed that you and swan would be taking over in July, CHB (am sort of in denial about the fact that it starts tomorrow - it's DD2's birthday party tomorrow afternoon and I'm hoping that if I don't think about it, someone else will do all the work). Which weekends are you away? I'm happy to cover for you if I'm here, but we'll be away on the 16th/17th and 30th/31st.

ColdHeartedBitch · 30/06/2011 08:39

I am starting the not a fucking chance in hell list.
Ds to school on time.
survive morning without destructive meltdown

Angry[sigh]

ColdHeartedBitch · 30/06/2011 08:39

No worries will set up new thread after school run. Thanks for the clarification on that!

elliepac · 30/06/2011 08:44

I did volunteer to do July ages ago chb so if it is easier for you i am quite happy to step in. Smile as i said last night, life has been crazy in june but july will be quieter! It be up to you my lovely!

ColdHeartedBitch · 30/06/2011 09:52

No, its ok. need to be on top of stuff July, but might ask if you would be so kind as to step in if there is likely to be a problem on the weekends I am away. If you would be so kind ellie. Btw have you claimed the bottles of wine left out for you in the naughty corner. I think we have kept you well stocked this month Wink

BlueEyeshadow · 30/06/2011 10:10

Hi ellie and MissJ. Waves.

Today is going to be a 15 min special kind of day between work, house bleugh and packing, MNing and watching tennis...

ColdHeartedBitch · 30/06/2011 10:20

July's thread here although appologies for the lack of inspirational title

Don't mess it up now Wink

swanriver · 30/06/2011 12:37

well, I'm lost again [roundups will be Braintraining]
so no personals at all, I vaguely remember something about Wormwood and Hitler's foreign policy and poor Reastie

reading thread backwards is always mind altering isn't?

I was so looking forward to today, being a day off school (no responsibilities, duties, expectations Hmm however forgotten that I still have children to look after at home [ha!]

absolutely shattered after yesterday still, and my friend's overnight stay on Tues, and Dh not putting dcs to bed last night, waiting up for him etc, chatting afterwards etc
very late start this morning, and I'm still in my nightie, feeling thoroughly in a muddle.

Have put washing in
cleared some stuff off landing
dcs now seem to be playing nicely - found some Clay Smile (knot of panic about needing to take them OUT, and unhabitual playdate this afternoon seeing messy house)

computer seizing up regularily [grrr]

no idea about meals, though fridge stuffed with rotting foodstuffs, mostly requiring imagination to convert to edible substances

right, I need to get DRESSED

swanriver · 30/06/2011 12:42

Blue very exciting about your brother being ordained too, not something that happens every day. You must be proud.
The Warden by Trollope is holding up Ds2's scaletrix, I was just re-reading bits of it after bridge bit collapsed when I move dit to make room for spare bed.., just all the social structures of Victorian Anglican church make very interesting reading ( I presume your brother is C of E?)

elliepac · 30/06/2011 13:25

chb i quaffed that wine last night Grin. Just give me a nudge when you need me to do links then next month.

Quick question for those of you with boys in the 7/8 age bracket or near enough. Do your DS's take any personal responsibility? I am seriously losing the plot with DS at the moment (highly unusual in itself as it is normally DD that causes me to pull my hair out). He is 8 in a few weeks yet still seems to think that my main purpose in life is to serve him. He leaves his stuff lying around everywhere, won't take responsibility for anything he does which includes blaming his sister for everything, won't even do the simplest things for himself like making a drink and he DREW on my newly painted living room walls last week and then spent 5 minutes blaming his sister. He is normally the gentlest, loveliest little boy but at the moment he is really testing my patience at the mo to the point where i was shouty mum this morning and made him cry after he revealed he has lost his brand new £25 trainers. Is it an age thing? I want my lovely boy back Sad.

Anyway, enough whinging, am going to get back to work!

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 30/06/2011 14:02

good afternoon (I am so polite) peoples :)

elliepac - I have 3 ds (2 grown up now) & they always took responsibilty but my youngest ds (6 next week) is another kettle of fish,I already know that I will be in the same position as you as he already shows the traits of an "it's not my fault" kind of person (I pull my hair out on a daily basis) but they are all different,I use the counting method to get him to make the right choice, tell the truth & make ammends. It does work but boy does he argue with me about how he should not have to make up for something he has not done & then shouts at me about what a horrible mean mummy I am for being strict with him (in the words of I believe jeremy kyle ???"bovered son")

I got everything done on my tada list yesterday including arranging emergency babysitter for ds as have to attend dd music concert tonight (have already packed ear plugs & have wine poured into water bottle as an emergency measure).

Today I have not even made a list just going with the flow & so far
have done 1 hrs walk with dog
chatted to neighbour for 1/2 hr (her dog is going to be put down this week)
found lemon oil polish, window cleaner stuff, dusters ect & have completey sparkled the living room along with hoovered it (hoover now full of dog fur) but had to be done as xp picking kids up tomorrow
washing was done & on line by 8am

I have not had some miracle cure just woke up at 5.55am so got up & started....am flagging now though & may require small nap before school run, drop dd off to final rehearsal at 6pm followed by performance at 7pm (beside the point school is 8 miles away so dh not happy due to cost of petrol in a 4x4),dinner of some description...........oh I am tired just thinking about it (matchsticks going in eyes now)

will let you all know how awful no no no sorry I mean great the caterwalling cherubs are this pm :o

Toffeefudgecake · 30/06/2011 14:19

Both boys at home today, as school is closed (strike action). DS2 had a friend round this morning, but now it's just the three of us and I'm aware that I should be doing things in the house . Was going to take the boys down to the library until a friend pointed out that it would probably be closed too. Actually, I'm perfectly happy to stay at home, particularly as it looks as if it is about to rain and I seem to have a million email messages to deal with about DS1 (he feels like a job in itself at the moment).

MissJulie - lovely to see you pop in! I hope your DD is OK.

Linzer - Grin at BumBum icecream. Oh, my children would love that!

CHB - thanks for the new thread. I'll pop over and mark my place right now.

DS2 (5) has made up his first joke:

"Why did the hare cross the road?"

"To get to the hairdressers!"

BlueEyeshadow · 30/06/2011 14:45

Hi swan, hope you're feeling less muddled now. Yes CofE but the very low church end. We have another friend also being ordained on Sat at the opposite end of the spectrum Grin. I read the Warden recently but I don't know if I'll ever get round to the rest of the series...

So, ta-da -
Washing done and out
Hoovering
Floor mopping
regular checks on ants Confused
suitcase packed
fringe sorted
enough work for today

To do:
prepare tea
tidy desk
write brother's card
collect up baby bits for friend's DD
wash nappies overnight
organise DH and DS1 for nursery trip

BlueEyeshadow · 30/06/2011 14:48

Love the joke Toffee. DS1 is always trying to make jokes, but they tend to be something like: "Why did the elephant go down the slide?" - "Cars!" and then huge guffaws...

He would love BumBum ice cream too.

Stillchuckingit · 30/06/2011 15:37

Pong Poo Bum bum again (minus the ice cream)

Actually, thinking about it, Nigella makes a wonderful rhubarb sponge called "pig's bum" Grin

So sorry about last night and thanks for stepping in Linzer

Nearly made it to the end of the month without hitches (tacchychardia notwithstanding) only to be thwarted by &!$$%- ing Windows explorer. Dh tried to install systems update last night and it "failed". Update also failed on two other office computers. All completely stalled. Technician coming asap but as he reported many clients with same prob am not hopeful will be any time soon. Am now using third ancient laptop that's tied up with string and that you have to practically wind up with a handle. So slow keep losing posts.

Blue many congratulations to you and your family on your brother's ordination.

MissJ sorry you have had bad news concerning your dd

Sorry no more personals - afraid going to lose entire thing if I take any longer

ColdHeartedBitch · 30/06/2011 15:56

SC i think you are excempt from posting step tonight. Tis the first tomo. So I will post them over on the other thread later.

Sounds like a pain in the arse about the windows update.

swanriver · 30/06/2011 16:09

Ellie answer is: responsibility nil points
blame everyone but themselves 10/10 points
shouting and screaming 10/10
tidy nil points

but in all other respects remain the lovely lovely sons that they were. Requires a major rethink in handling methods, rather than their character actually having changed. ie: hate shouting, hate commands, hate any sort of being told off, love boundaries (think institutional routines), love independence, love being consulted/chatted to. Think they get soo upset and resistant because they can't BEAR being in the wrong, and not being special son material.

swanriver · 30/06/2011 16:11

3 little girls here havig a great time,
ds2 has joined in a bit on the pony games and hide and seek
sent ds1 for a run [mucho resistance]

made lunch (separate grades] with children, ds1 made noodles wth me, ds2 made salmon pasta bake.

Otherwise house still mess mess mess

searching for eggs now to do some bakign

LadyInPink · 30/06/2011 16:56

Sad oh no, poor you nicknacks - how did you do it?

LadyInPink · 30/06/2011 19:08

reastie it was soooooooo lovely. It was a birthday present from my mil and i tend to get one every year so it's my special treat about this time each year Smile It was only supposed to be an hour but i had 25mins extra for some reason - Mmmm. Need to jump in the shower though and wash my minging hair but don't want to wash off all the lovely cream she put on my face at the end of the facial.

Not sure what you mean by 'polish a sofa' though Grin surely you'd slip off it!
