June know it's the fledgling flyers?

Stillchuckingit · 30/05/2011 09:53

A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Hello can I join please! Have moved house 2 months ago and have (nearly) unpacked the boxes. I went to IKEA yesterday (with baby, by myself - v proud) to get clear stackable boxes for all of DHs crap stuff to go in the garage so I'm ready to bring so order to the chaos. I have even bought some limescale stuff for the sink. I'm quite ridiculously excited at the thought of having a clean house with no cardboard boxes to come home to!

NettieSpaghetti · 01/06/2011 12:22

Hello everyone and so sorry for being AWOL for most of May.

linzer thank you so much for may.

I need to get back on track I do.

I've no list for today so I am going to start sink shining and stick to my routines.

Be back tonight to find out how the flip you all are.

Biscuit Brew

ColdHeartedBitch · 01/06/2011 12:52

just brewing a fresh pot linzer. No didnt literally kill him. but very very tempted and not sure i can even speak to him in the near future atm which could make sorting contact visits out interesting.

scattyspice · 01/06/2011 12:59

Hi all Smile.

Have been busy with family party/half term stuff. Unfortunately we have a cold working its way through the family too (dd had added vomitting with hers!). Today its my turn so dh has taken dc off to the beach while I loaf about Smile. He did say 'I'm sure you'll be better tomorrow' as he headed out the door (I think it was more an instruction than concern Hmm).

So bad start to the month fly wise. Will loll about in the naughty corner (with lemsip).

LinzerTorte · 01/06/2011 13:20

Hope your cold is better soon, scatty. My DH would probably issue similar "instructions" - he used to be very sympathetic when I was ill, but I think he's got fed up of me stomping about when he's not well.

Thanks for coffee CHB - only had half my usual amount this morning but probably needed double. Sounds like a difficult situation with your ex; is there anyone you can use as a go-between?

Lovely to see you again Nettie. Smile

Welcome Ineedacoffee (your name is just how I feel most mornings) - just jump on board and ask if you have any questions.

Cinders Did you know you can get proper (i.e. filled with red jam, none of this apricot jam nonsense) doughnuts for a bargain 24 cents at the M&S cafe in Bratislava?

BlueEyeshadow · 01/06/2011 14:15

Confused Unexpectedly got both boys home today and tomorrow. These are meant to be my work and house bleugh days. Confused

swanriver · 01/06/2011 14:55

The answer to Flying is definitely to stay out of the house all day Grin
The twins and I have done about four miles of walking in this beautiful weather(river, bridge, Chiswick House Park) and then hopped on a long and winding bus home.
Yesterday was really quite nice, tidy friend didn't come round after all, but she sent her tidy daughter to sort out dd's Build-a-Bear wardrobe, and ds2 had his friend round too, impromptu-ly, and house felt clean and bright for once....

Dh and I are celebrating half term by drinking wine every night and watching episodes of Blackpool with David Morrissey and David Tennant (an old series we missed when it came out). For some reason this feels thoroughly decadent, and as if we are on holiday..

list
clear breakfast and packed lunch mess up
hang out washing
wash last nights pots and pans up Blush whilst children relax infrontoftelly

Not looking forward to uniform buying for ds1 janey I want him to be thinner by Sept, but perhaps he'll be taller too, so it is thoroughly confusing. His uniform is only available from John Lewis, which is not much help as it is not at all local...They want us to do it online, so I suppose I shall have to get out my magic predicting measuring tape...

PositiveAttitude · 01/06/2011 15:28

Please miss, can I be excused today? I was at work at 6.30 this morning and have done absolutely nothing since getting home at 10. Blush I think I might write off this week and start again next week when DCs are back at school. I am having a momentous day and need to recover from the feeling of being too old. My baby boy has just shaved for the first time! Shock Sad

I found him in the bathroom with his big sis comparing armpits and shaving techniques (her armpits, his face) Hmm I will never have my babyface ever again.

janeyjampot · 01/06/2011 15:57

Ah, PA, poor you. I am feeling a bit like that, having been bra shopping with DD1 today.

Uniform shopping was utterly pointless as it appears that it won't be available until August Shock. I was a bit put out by that, especially as we will be away for a couple of weeks and we'll undoubtedly get a bit anxious if we can't get it all. Was less than thrilled when the shop assistant informed me that they will need sleeveless jumpers as part of the uniform, and that they will be £20 each. I was going to buy 2 each but might revise that, especially as DD2 will only wear hers for a year before she goes into the 'upper school', when she will need one in a different colour... £80 on tank tops seems a bit much, especially when we need blazers as well.

Stillchuckingit · 01/06/2011 16:48

Meant to get back on here at lunch time but work duty called. Lots of strong coffee drinking going on I see

What a cheek that they don't appreciate your efforts Linzer particularly given the amount of prep you do

Great to see you Ineedacoffee Rather Envy at the thought of being able to start afresh. Good luck with it!

Hope the dentist wasn't too horrific Toffee

We won't tell anyone CHB Wink. Seriously, sorry you are having to go through the stress though. Hope you can captalise Fly-wise with your child-free days.

Janey you put me to shame with your early uniform-buying. I agree it's much easier to do it gradually over the holidays than in stress-filled forays to the shops in late August. One of my bugbears is that dd's school never publishes the list of endless materials they need (pens, crayons, files, paints etc ad infinitum) until the first day of term which means you have two days to get everything in a mad scramble - and everyone else is doing the same! The list is ridiculously long - about 36 items!

[Dispenses free pass, spotted handkerchief and a big mug of Brew to *PA]

[Dispenses fluffy cushions with honey and lemon drinks to *Scatty]

Swan your day sounds lovely + congrats on your sparkly house!! Dh and I do the box-set thing too .. we generally choose one series to tide us through the summer holidays (last year House - couple of years before West Wing etc etc). We'll be on the Wine tonight ... dd has two days holiday off now for Ascension ...

Same here Blueyeshadow but not unexpected. I'd forget the house bleugh for a week [hands over special dispensation] Dh was meant to be joining us and having a bit of break ... but of course ...he's too busy at work Sad

Off to chase down some ingredients for supper ...

Im Confused

flipping grotty house

anyone want to swap...

ColdHeartedBitch · 01/06/2011 19:27

Had bad news. going to go try to process it :(

Toffeefudgecake · 01/06/2011 19:42

Still recovering from the visit to the dentist (not at all horrific, thanks SC - but not the nicest way to spend an hour and a half), so flying has fallen by the wayside. I needed four injections, which means I am still numb on one side of my face and can't say anything starting with 'p' Confused. Feel a bit battered, even though the dentist was as lovely as she could be. Am also reeling from the news that I will need root-canal work which will cost even more money Shock.

Spent a lovely afternoon with a good friend who has just returned from holiday. Took our boys out (four altogether) and let them run around.

Have just finished dinner - fish pie from Menu4Mums, which was delicious - and am about to throw put DS2 in the bath and into bed. Am drinking Wine to numb the battered feeling from the dentist.

Will try to shine my sink tonight, get an early night and start afresh with Flylady routines tomorrow.

Linzer - I'm sorry you don't feel appreciated for your English teaching. It's not fair, particularly as you are giving your time for free. Grr to the rude caretaker!

CHB - I'm relieved you haven't literally killed your ex. That would need a whole new thread!

PA and Janey - sorry your DC are growing up too fast Sad. No sign of that in this house yet, thank goodness.

Ineedacoffee - welcome! You have come to the right place. We may not all have clean and tidy houses, but we are on the way. Flylady routines definitely help.

DC are getting a bit wild downstairs, so time to separate them and get DS2 into the bath... Waves to all other fledglings.

Stillchuckingit · 01/06/2011 20:40

Hope you will forgive me, particularly on day 1, but going to post steps early tonight and not do a proper round-up, because dh is late home and I am cooking something rather tricky for him which needs watching ...

I don't like the sound of that caretaker either Toffee! Ouch at four injections - I think you are being very stalwart! Root canal work not a nice prospect (price or otherwise).

Hope you are ok CHB

Gladly Cinders but you'd have to move to Belgium!

Baby-step no. 2, for Thurs 2nd June, is here! Yes, it's the controversial one!! (by no means obligatory!)

Today and for the rest of the week we are in Zone 1, the entrance hall, front porch and dining room. Try and declutter in this zone for 15 mins every day.

Thursday's mission, when the Fat Fairy website updates itself tomorrow mornng, will appear here

But if you want a sneak peak at what's in store look here!

I forgot to mention that Wednesday is anti-procrastination day, and Thursday is errand days (if you so choose).

We can do it ladies!! 'See' you all in the morning!

Hope your mouth is better soon.

Internet problems here. I have changed providers and was reassured that it would be a smooth transition. Smooth my arse!!!! Messin about all day, and the phone line.

pushmepullyou · 01/06/2011 21:23

Evening everybody Smile

Glad the dentist wasn't too bad toffee I had root canal work last year. It wsn't actually too bad, but OUCH!!! at the price Shock . I have two very old veneers on my front teeth from where I broke them as a child, which are both now slightly chipped and need redoing. This also requires me to have aforementioned root canal crowned and my teeth whitened in advance unless I i fancy spending £££ on coffee and red wine coloured veneers. The dentist smiling quoted about £1500. I ran away screaming and have not yet returned!

Hope you are OK CHB . The naughty corner is awaiting your return. Can I offer you a large Wine and a bracing yet supportive pat on the shoulder?

I have done fairly well with routines today, which has also included both children on my own all day (still quite a novelty, especially at bed time as I don't really have an effective way of getting them both to bed on my own yet). I must request dispensation to be excused the mission though as I have only just looked at it and any time spent in our front hallway at this time of night would definitely ruin any chance I may otherwise have of getting DD to GO TO SLEEP!!!

Hi to SC, PA, Janey, cinders, linzer and everyone else Smile

NettieSpaghetti · 01/06/2011 21:26

Evening all

swan can I have a shot of your magic predicting measuring tape. Just started ww again and could do with the motivation. Sounds like a great day and love the wine and boxsets.
linzer I think you are brill. I would have given up English lessons ages ago. Skip a few weeks then they will have to do it themselves. Love the lack of sickness sympathy.
toffee ouch ouch, have some more Wine. I stuck straw up numb nose after injections before and didn't notice!! Blush
chb hope you are ok
sc hope your dh enjoys his dish. Thanks for leading us this month.
cinders no not swapping! Grin
janey gosh uniform sounds a nightmare. Hoping your dc go to a posh school and I won't be subjected to such uniform restraints.
pa aw at your baby shaving. Hope you have a nice rest of the week.
scatty and blue hope everyone gets better soon.

I am drowning under 100 weight of washing including sleeping bags etc from camping. Drowning in database entry at work.

As I have no real progress to report I will leave you with my best quote because I like it. Grin

"Men are tables, women are the legs. Without the legs they would be just planks."

Have good start to the day Wine [non calorific wine] [no calorie chocolate] Grin

CindersIgnoto · 01/06/2011 21:33

Nettie are you sure ..Smile

oh well Belgium for
Austria then

snores gently in the naughty corner

Toffeefudgecake · 01/06/2011 21:48

Thank you all for the sympathy.

Still - hope DH appreciates it!

PA - 'Shmeter scmiter schmicked a schmeck of ....' Oh dear. Hope internet is sorted out soon. What would you do without MN? Shock

Pushme -thanks for the reassurance that root-canal work is not too bad. The friend I saw today has had four root-canal treatments; she said it doesn't hurt, but she hates the thought of what they are doing to her. The price is nowhere near to £1500 - no wonder you ran away, screaming! But if you go on the NHS, they just whip your teeth out, in my experience Angry. Hope DC go to sleep all right tonight and give you a break.

Nettie - owch! That straw scenario sounds painful. As far as I know, I haven't done anything like that tonight . Sorry about all the washing and work Sad.

I think the numbness has finally faded. The dentist said it would last a couple of hours. I was still numb seven hours later Hmm.

Should go and sort the kitchen out before bed, but it is much more appealing to relax on MN. Maybe a few more minutes....

pushmepullyou · 01/06/2011 21:53

toffee the actual root canal was only a fraction of that. It is the crown and veneers not to mention whitening that will cost a fortune . NHS could only offer to whip it out for £50. I declined!

LinzerTorte · 01/06/2011 21:58

That quote made me lol, Nettie. Mmm, wine and chocolate with no calories ? what could be better? Grin

PMPY Well done on the routines ? mine go to pot if the DC are around and my youngest is 5, so I have no excuses really.

Toffee You definitely deserve Wine after 1.5 hours at the dentist. I really need to go and have my teeth cleaned, but keep putting it off.

Hope you're OK, CHB.

The caretaker was probably only rude by my (British and oversensitive) standards, but I was very annoyed at the time. I rang both bells (headmistress and caretaker) at the school to be let in; no reply, but I could see the caretaker standing a couple of feet away ? obviously on a cigarette break. So I politely asked him whether he could let me in; he looked quite annoyed at being interrupted and told me to ring the bell. I told him I had. "Both bells?" Yes! So he grudgingly let me in. (It all sounds very silly now, I know.) At least I got a thank you from DD2's teacher today; I think I was a bit spoilt by DD1's old teacher, who was always very grateful, whereas I feel now that the DDs' teachers take me for granted a little. I wouldn't mind so much if I was being paid, but sometimes feel like asking them if they realise how much work I've put into the lessons!

Anyway, I've finally finished my work and now need to finish packing. School is closed for the next two days for Ascension here too SC, so we're off to Playmobil land tomorrow morning. The DC are very excited and have been saving up (there's a big shop there, apparently) for months. I am just looking forward to getting away from the chaos! Really must get back on track next week, work permitting.

droitwichmummy · 01/06/2011 22:07

Been in London today so no flying here. Coventry tomorrow but should be home early so will do a list then

Hope you are ok CHB - I have medicinal brandy and tissues if required

elliepac · 01/06/2011 22:22

Evening all! Quite a non eventful day here.Hmm. Have quietly got on with my various jobs and pootled about. Oh and the Dd had the most spectacular tantrum ever in Morrisons. She asked to go in the trolley which was i thought quite a reasonablr request so i placed her in the aforementioned trolley. Well, bugger me, you would have thought i had started some form of sadistic Chinese water torture. It all culminated in her screaming at the very top of her very loud voice, 'I hate you mummy. I am going to punch you in the face and then I will kill you.' said with her evil face on. On the positive side i got the food shop done in record time Wink but i am beginning to think she is bordering on the insane Grin. Those of you on facebook with me will see that chb has given me a t-shirt to wear saying, ' if you hate me now, just wait till you're a teenager!' This is assuming that she males it that far Grin.
And her mood didnt get any better after that!

I am now mainly going to drink Wine.

chb hope you are ok

linzer playmobil land sounds like my personal hell. Have funGrin.

swan soundz like a lovely day Smile.

sc good to see you back to doing what you do best and keeping us all in check Smile.

pa ds is NEVER allowed to grow any older from this day forth. Just thr thought of him shaving brings me out in a cold sweat. I dont want him to grow up!

janey uniform for September in June. Shock. i thought all uniform was bought in a blind panic the night before at Tesco or is that just me Grin.

ineedacoffee nice name Grin. Welcome. Just dive right in and get started Smile.

nettie you got tickets for take that didn't you? Mine arrived today and the big day is 10 days away. I am ridiculously excited Grin.

Anyway, am off to be to dream of well behaved small children Grin.

See you in the morning!
