A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Hello,

Checking in to this shiny new thread in the hope of achieving a tidy house in June... :)

Plan for the day:

Home Blessing
Ironing (lots of because I have stripped the beds) :(
Take DDs to the post office to send most of their possessions, which they appear to have sold on ebay in a wild decluttering fit Grin

I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but selling stuff on ebay is a huge incentive to declutter for 12/13 year olds. And I can't say I'm sorry to see the back of the build-a-bear stuff, which I could never see the point of in the first place.

Hope everyone has a productive and satisfying day, wiping fingermarks off the lounge Hmm

janeyjampot · 31/05/2011 10:56

...I should also have said that ebay is proving motivational for getting DH to declutter as well. As a compulsive buyer of technological 'solutions' to 'problems' we didn't have in the first place, he's had a great time going through his drawers finding things for the DDs to ebay. It saves him the guilt of having to see loads of pointless purchases every time he tries to find anything, and it will save us having to find pocket money for a good long time to come!

Just thought I'd pass that on in case anyone else was having trouble getting the rest of the family on board with the flylady thing Grin

CindersIgnoto · 31/05/2011 12:09

Maybe I should just ebay

dh

then the house would be cleaner...Smile

heads back to the naughty corner

droitwichmummy · 31/05/2011 12:33

Hooray plaster cast is off!Grin Nothing major broken, something has just popped off the back of one of the bones in my handConfused. Dr has given me a removable cast (the ones with the velcro) to wear for 4 weeks. No driving for 2 weeks and no heavy lifting.

Will be flapping feebly with you all tomorrowSmile

Stillchuckingit · 31/05/2011 13:12

That's great news Mummy!!

arf at Cinders (hands over Brew)

Do you think E-bay would accept the 23 cardboard boxes I have in the roof Janey contents unspecified? (They've been up there since we moved house nearly a decade ago and I can't remember what's in them.)

Stillchuckingit · 31/05/2011 13:13

Meant to say earlier Pushme well done on your rtn to a spotless home - not easily achieved with a baby - top fledgling marks!

OP posts:
janeyjampot · 31/05/2011 13:15

Just tell the kids the contents are valuable and they'll ebay it all for you, Stillchuckingit Grin

Good news about your hand, Mummy - well, kind of!

Funnily enough, DH & I were worried when DD1 took a photo of us yesterday... if I disappear you'll know I've been sold!

Stillchuckingit · 31/05/2011 15:00

Rest assured we'll inform the authorities if you're not back on here within 48 hrs Janey Grin

Plan today:
do not kill the ex.

achieved: coffee with friends, come back and want to kill ex so going back out again.

that way the plan will remain achieved.

CindersIgnoto · 31/05/2011 19:15

you could always ebay your ex

I could ebay two dhs

two for the price of one ,,

missjulie · 31/05/2011 19:41

Had SUCH a busy day! Phew! Just wanted to say that internet getting cut off in the am at current house, and being connected at new house prob Sat, so shall be awol, again for a while!! Take care! x

NickNacks · 31/05/2011 21:29

Is it ok to post lists yet?

We're off on hol at the weekend so need to get prepped!

Both the kids rooms are tidy for once and not too cluttered but ours is a nightmare so that will be my priority for June if that's ok?

15 mins working on our room
Dry rest of washing
Put all clean clothes away
Put birthday cards away
Dust sitting room

Starting off slowly but surely! This on top of working 830am-4pm from home.

See you tomorrow and good luck with house moves and ebaying!!

Stillchuckingit · 31/05/2011 21:46

Right ladies ...

[Rolls up sleeves, spits on palms, rubs hands together]

For month ahead, can't quite decide if I am going to post steps night before or early in the morning but as NickNacks is quite keen to get started Grin, I'll post the first step in a moment...

I see Feetheart said that she definitely needs a plan for June too (amen to that - I'm adrift currently)

In the meantime:

relieved to see you here CBH - I was getting worried!

Cinders just musing on how much I could flog my dh for. I could probably get quite a decent price ....he cooks a mean paella ...on the other hand, his dirty socks usually end up on the floor, so that would involve at least a 10% discount.

Good luck with the move MissJ and "see you" in your new house!! You've done brilliantly!

Linzer hope your headache has departed. Huge thanks for being a brilliant leader throughout May (not that I was a very dedicated follower Flying-wise Blush but I hope to do better in June)!!

Huge waves to one and all

Back in a minute ...

Baby-step no.1 for Wednesday 1st June here!! Shine your sink!

Today we have been in Zone 5 (the sitting room) and tomorrow and for the rest of the week we will be returning to Zone 1 (the front porch/entrance and dining room)

See here for more details. Tomorrow's mission (decluttering the entrance hall) can also be found in this link.

For the benefit of any newcomers that may be joining us, see here for details of what we should be doing in each zone ie decluttering for 15 mins a day once other routines accomplished.

The summer holidays will soon be upon us (one month away over here - yikes!) so let's hope we can Fly high in June with the help of a bit of Wine and Brew and some whinging cheerful banter along the way.

Any questions, don't hesitate. All newcomers, welcome!

I shall be going awol at then end of the week as will be technology free for a week. Until then i shall be proping up the bar in the naughty corner. I felt the need to upgrade the naughty corner for the summer. WinkGrin

elliepac · 01/06/2011 07:26

The naughty corner has a bar!!!! I shall therefore be mainly drunk for the month of June Grin.

Morning Fledglings! Thank you to linzer for May and sc for taking over although it would have to be said I mainly failed Grin and in June I will......mainly fail Grin. I like a bit of positivity me! My presence will be intermittent over the next month due to work and mammoth exam marking so apologies in advance when I go AWOL.

We had a lovely time at the caravan over the weekend. DH tried to keep the place tidy whilst we were away bless him and downstairs wasn't too bad. However, the bathroom was disgusting and although the kitchen was tidy not a pot had been washed all weekend Shock. I have quite a lot to do today so am list posting:-

Washing (still washing at MIL's, have put one load on already while DH got ready for work)
Drying
Putting away
Food shop
Town for summer clothes for DC's
Post Office to pick up Take That tickets (eeeeek, am super excited now 10 days to go!)
Clean doors/skirting in dining room
Friends for coffee
Dinner
Pay bills done
Argos for vacuum cleaner bags

It is a lovely day here so am hoping DC's will amuse themselves in garden whilst I get on...what are my chances?

Big waves to all fledglings! Back later.

CindersIgnoto · 01/06/2011 07:48

sits in naughty corner
eating

donutsSmile

no alcohol
for two more weeks

and why is my mouse doing weirdy thingsConfused

Stillchuckingit · 01/06/2011 08:01

It's a deliberate ploy Ellie to persuade people to drunkenly hoover up the middle of their carpets - it has tapas too - and, er, as Cinders has discovered, doughnuts

I won't tell you the disgusting practices dh gets up to in our bathroom in the name of personal grooming, or where he puts his toe-nail clippings, it's far too early in the morning

Enjoy your day in the garden before you encounter your mammoth marking mountain!!

What look are you going for CHB? Cosy, urban, sophisticated [hands over pot of Farrow & Ball "Antique Bone" + rollers] or casual/funky/rattan/beach [hands over pot of B&Q mould-control "Seaspray" + brushes]

Windy, confine, arse end of nowhere kinda place. probably complete with exciting wildlife that ds will enjoy torturing me with investigating. Just hoping ds settles down he is a bit of a funk atm and it is a bit hit and miss as to whether you get tears or tempers out of him atm. In the mean time i have a few days child free and hoping to get some project decluttering done.

Toffeefudgecake · 01/06/2011 08:15

Morning.

Linzer - thanks for your excellent leadership skills last month.

Still - thanks for taking over.

Thanks to Mum, I now have loads of ironed clothes hanging up in the wardrobes, which gives me a head start. She goes home today Sad, but I'll try to keep up with her good work.

Today is overshadowed by a dental appointment for me at noon. The good thing is that I have a nice new dentist. The bad thing is that she's private, so it will cost me shedloads of money. But at least it should get rid of the toothache (I've been using DS2's teething gel - it works!).

DS1 is watching everything I'm typing, which is rather off-putting, so I'm going to go now.

janeyjampot · 01/06/2011 08:34

Hello,

Well, I'm still here and haven't been sold. Today I might wish that I had, actually, because I am taking the DDs to buy new school uniform, which is always something of a challenge. They have a completely new uniform for September and I want to try to get some of it now, or at least work out what we need.

Home blessing went well yesterday and I was pleased with how little it now takes to pull things back after a long weekend. Flylady is definitely working!

Right, off to swish & swipe...

Good luck with the dentist Toffee, and thanks for leading, Stillchuckingit. Cinders, have some Brew to wash down the doughnuts :)

ColdHeartedBitch · 01/06/2011 09:00

List for the day:
do not kill fuckwit ex

Fail.

LinzerTorte · 01/06/2011 10:58

You've killed him, CHB? Shock

Is there coffee in the naughty corner? If so, I am joining you all. Flying has fallen by the wayside and I am fed up with the English lessons as I don't feel appreciated. I would also have appreciated being talked to more politely by the school caretaker, but I think sleep deprivation is making me overly sensitive.

Good luck at the dentist, Toffee. DD1's "attachment" fell off her tooth in the night, so it's back to the orthodontist's (and square one in the attempt to sort out her crooked tooth) for us. Luckily the orthodontist seems to charge per treatment rather than appointment, as we'll have been to see her three times in one week.

CindersIgnoto · 01/06/2011 11:39

plenty of coffee..Smile

no more donuts though,....
