June know it's the fledgling flyers?

A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

thehusband Grin I read your 'wee business venture' on first read as a business venture involving wee Blush Shock Wink [bit slow]

jabs have been done but alas no coil today as swab results not back yet [secretly breathes sigh of relief] sc can we share stories whoever gets it done first?. DD has been sleeping since got back from her jabs and I've just wasted time online Blush

so far today ta da -
-made bed
-sorted dds newborn clothes for loft/selling
-had bath
-taken dd for jabs

off to get a quick lunch while she's still sleeping then I'll get going on something productive

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/06/2011 13:45

Another happy coil user here! Had mine for 3.5 years. Fitting it was fine, the Dr was a bit shocked that I was proposing to walk home from the hospital, all of about 300m level walk, apparently I should have driven, what was I thinking, but didn't have any problems in the immediate aftermath (or ever since really).

I can't keep up with the thread at the moment .

Need to go and get the washing off the line as black clouds are looming again, also need to go and get our (very large) tent out again, as I think my glasses must be in one of the inner tent pockets, have looked everywhere else, I did have them on holiday. I have been wearing my contact lenses continually since we got back and really need a break.

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 29/06/2011 13:58

reastie - how funny,I just read what I had put & realised what it reads like (ho hum ner mind)

Ok have been trying to read about flying again & there is just 1 hitch to me re-discovering that routine thing,I am vice-chair on PTA but the chair seems to think that multiple phone calls a day sometimes for nearly an hour are essential.I have tried gently to stop this (& by gently I mean screening calls) but to no avail.......so guess I need to tackle this problem before I can move forwards (sighs, how to find a strategy that will not offend).

any suggestions proffered my way will be taken into consideration :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/06/2011 14:48

Yay! Found my glasses, in the tent as predicted. Managed to haul it out of it's bag and unravel it enough to get the glasses out whilst keeping it in the shed, but the whole thing will need to be refolded outside when DH gets home. Now, in the normal course of things that would mean it all lying on the shed floor till next summer, but he is going away with it next weekend so he will have to fold it up to get it in the car.

THACA - can't think how to get round that one, other than telling her that you would love to talk to her at "specified time" but not now.

swanriver · 29/06/2011 16:19

Exhausting afternoon watching children run round and round Sports Field for Sports Day also crosseyed socialising with other parents, no it is actually exhausting - I feel shattered and I want to lie down watchsoaps now
all my dcs completed dreaded 500 m in separate heats, ds2 very commendably, ds1 last, and dd just about scraped into middle place. Ds2 in excellent mood as a result, ds1 has just raided the cupboard for icecream Sad "Mum, I was last..." ["and actually Mum that was because someone cheated, or he would have been last instead..."Confused

The morning was spent cleaning out the cupboard under the stairs for the plumber, and creating general mayhem. Playroom now a complete tip again, perhaps I should just put it all in the shed [aargh no, Not the lovely clear shed!) Still I have managed to
put the boxes of tiles, the ones that prevented me putting the hoover away, at the back of the cupboard under the stairs,
found a long lost set of keys
found a long lost raincoat
several brooms, mops, a lost bucket
and several light bulbs
and a special attachment for the hoover

new radiator installed, washer in kitchen tap fixed, and boiler serviced
hall now fits the brown furniture

CHB happy to do roundups if you do links

swanriver · 29/06/2011 16:21

Whoknows tent is still in my car from Sat
nothing is lost is it! Grin just mislaid

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/06/2011 16:38

Swan - I'm not really looking forward to Sports Day, tomorrow, DS has built it up so massively and is absolutely determined he is going to win his running race, he says he has won all the practices, but there are some very fast children in his class and he has short legs. Just hoping he can do it, it means so much to him. He won egg and spoon last year and running in Yr R, so there is hope!

I hate the mums race, some of them are unbelievably competitive, 2 years ago someone fell and broke their wrist, so last year they made us do egg and spoon instead, they were all cheating and holding their eggs on with their thumbs, not a very good example to the DCS

LadyInPink · 29/06/2011 18:07

Hi all Smile

Hope coil fitting went ok reastie

DD sports day is Friday. Luckily they don't do a mums race - phew. Good luck on yours WKWTTG and at least yours is over with now swan Smile

Linzer bloody hate that offline for an upgrade, it seems to happen quite often to me so i must get into the habit of ctrl c too.

done :

food shop
Hoovered all downstairs
Watered garden as still no sign of promised rain or thunderstorms
Put down two more ant stations as first lot were empty - Grr - not that they are biting.
Cooked a gorgeous pork casserole
More tidying up of DD presents and other bits
Birthday cards bought and written (but sadly i missed the post - Doh)
Both bathrooms cleaned
Ironing pile down to zilch

This means tomorrow all I need to do is hoover upstairs and then i can enjoy my facial. Have two of DD friends coming to play tomorrow who missed her party so may give her bedroom a quick going over.

See you hopefully tomorrow Smile

swanriver · 29/06/2011 19:34

Whoknows well the only blessing is that my children are so not alpha sports that any small victory (ds2 came 8th out of 20 children Blush is enough for them. I cannot believe how fast some of the other children are, they literally FLOAT across the sports field, - not even puffed at the end...it's magic to watch them (as long as you are not fretting over your own child coming last Hmm Hope your ds realises that coming 3rd or 4 th is still brilliant.

Well, I've done
fallen asleep on the sofa on pile of lightbulbs and coats
cooked fried potatoes
taken dd to Brownies
chatted to ds1 and made him fry his own potatoes
let everyone watch rather too much Wimbledon; DH is out for a long drink with old university mates
put some coats/extension leads/bags away

stilltodo
kitchen washing up
pick up dd
unload dw
put kids to bed
finish sorting rubbish in hall

swanriver · 29/06/2011 19:35

Also every bit of laundry mountain still to tackle - must steel myself, all clean at least...

Stillchuckingit · 29/06/2011 20:04

Evening all. Beautiful evening here. Got through a reasonable amount of work today and a bit of low level Flying + one more box of papers decluttered in office and 9 presents wrapped/5 delivered.

Just enjoyed supper on the terrace (toad-in-the-hole) and then afterwards dd entertained us with a show-jumping and dressage display on the lawn (with riding hat, body protector and er, a furry hobby horse. The old playmobil box water jump was particularly treacherous ... Wink

Then harvested lots of lavender and wormwood to dry for (dare I mention the 'C' word?) Christmas presents - lavender bags and James Wong recipe for moth repellent (which really works) - sewn in to lots of dd's old un-used muslin squares and tarted up with a bit of poncery embroidery. Still determined (in the spirit of credit crunch/saving the planet etc) to make one Xmas present per week during the summer.

Thanks for all offers of help to run thread next month. If we do it on a weekly basis during summer (as per Swan's suggestion) then I'd be happy to continue for first week or so. Depends if someone wants to do whole caboodle. Either way fine and dandy.

[Thanks also for encouraging words from happy coil wearers Grin!! Good to know!!] See you had a temporary reprieve Reastie - will let you know! How is your dd tonight following jabs?

BTW Swan (apologies if you already know this) you can tick box 'converts links automatically' before posting now.

Your 'house of pong' incident had me cackling Grin. (That description could easily apply to SCtowers after one of dh's more racy cheese-buying expeditions!!) Sympathies over sports day chatter and general mayhem - those sorts of events ARE thoroughly cream-crackering ... Well done for clearing out cupboard of doom!!

Blue hope your day got better

Linzer Glad you got some reward for your efforts and hope your dd's piano concert goes well tonight

THSCA Language on Fat Fairy site IS barftastically cutesey I'm afraid [grabs sick bucket] Your business venture sounds intriguing - good luck with it! The only thing I can suggest about limiting calls (not v original) is to mention your fledgling business venture and say you are working/researching x mornings/afternoons per week and therefore only available to talk at y and Z days/times ...??? Maybe???

Whoknows Arf at tent/glasses quest. Glad you found them! (Rather relieved "mum's races" are not the norm here!!) Hope it goes well tomorrow for your ds!!

Top flying marks Pink for today - enjoy your pampering tomorrow

[Scans horizon for CHB in her bio-hazard suit]

Waves to everyone else!!

Swan Don't know whether to Sad or Grin at your "fallen asleep on the sofa on pile of lightbulbs and coats"

[Plumps up cushions and fluffy eiderdowns]

OP posts:
Curlyfrizzball · 29/06/2011 20:51

Achieved today:-
Full day at work
Picked up DD, played with, bathed and put to bed
Swept kitchen floor
Put clean dishes away
Put some of clean washing away
Cooked and eaten dinner.

Loads more I should do, but now collapsed on the sofa waiting for The Apprentice to start! I will shine my sink before I go to bed - I'm determined to keep that up at least!

By the way, do I really have to "get dressed to my shoes"? Why? I get dressed fairly early most mornings anyway for work, and on my day off, I like a slightly slower start to the day, and to just spend time with DD.

However, I do like the idea of setting a timer for 15 minutes and decluttering. Have tried this twice in the last week and each time managed to get a surface cleared. A drop of the ocean of what needs doing, but it's a start!

Bartlett - Love your name. The West Wing is the best TV show ever made!

Whoknows/swan - I'm not looking forward to having to go to sports days. I didn't enjoy them as a child, don't think I'll enjoy them much more as an adult1

THACA - the only other possibility with the phone calls is not to answer at certain times, but that's not helpful if you want to talk to other people! Sorry.

reastie · 29/06/2011 21:23

quick pop in to say i didn't manage any more on my to do list since last post as did have coil in the end so have been resting (or reasting Wink Grin ). sc it wasn't too bad - the painful bit was over in a couple of minutes and I'm just left with cramping now Hmm

lizardqueenie · 29/06/2011 21:54

Hi everyone!

Still trying to get the hang of using this mn iPhone app but it doesn't allow me to read & reply at the same time!
Still getting to know everyone but sounds like uve all been very busy bees!

at your tales from sports days! My DD is8 months old today- I best get training now?! Broken bones?! Crikey!

Swan yikes at your stew but that is quite funny- exactly the same sort of thing that my DH would do!
Well I seem to have got into the decluttering lark- a little bit here & there. Also trying to keep on top of my ironing by ironic a wash as I take it in from the line- so it doesn't have to be added to the mountain in the cupboard!
DH had one of his friends over for dinner this eve & it was quite nice to come back from my errands with DD & just let him in& offer him a drink rather than running around trying to hide crap in cupboards tidy up!
Ta da:
Up & out
Cards bought, written & posted (all 7 of them)
Parcels that have been lingering next to the front door for a month posted
Dw emptied
Bottles sterilised
Kitchen floor swept after DH'smishap with the weetabix
S&s
Tidied dd's toys & nursery
A bit of spot hoovering

Now off to bed- think DD is teething again & it could be a long night!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/06/2011 22:17

Thanks SC - yes, after the bad start it was quite a productive day in the end. I got done most of what I wanted, DS1 was positively civilised on being collected from the CM and helped to cook his own tea. Unfortunately that didn't induce him to eat any more of it, but I managed to be relatively restrained about that... Hopefully the recipe can be attempted again, maybe more successfully next time. And DS2 has a place at playgroup for Sept. My baby's growing up!

Have also managed to put out a few hotspots. Yay.

Tomorrow's going to be busy - got to get everything organised for the w/e. DH is going with DS1 on his nursery outing on Fri and as soon as they get back we have to head off for my little brother's ordination!! Mostly Grin but also a bit Shock...

Curly - most of us are a bit sceptical about the Fat Fairy's shoe obsession. Wink

Sounds like you're flying pretty well Lizard.

Hope you're able to rest up reastie - glad it wasn't too bad.

Waves to everyone else. Night all.

elliepac · 29/06/2011 23:15

Well, fuck a doodle do, June was a bit of a disaster for me wasn't it. Not so much flaming rather where the flaming hell has ellie been? Grin.
Safe to say I have spent the month ensconced in work, have just finished marking another gazillion sets of essentially wrong answers on Hitler's Foreign Policy and the house is a freaking pigsty Grin.

I cannot pretend that I am going to catch up with everything that you gorgeous lot have been up to this month although if I have missed anything of importance please tell me so I don't feel left out Wink

elliepac · 29/06/2011 23:16

oooooo, you can tell i haven't been on mn for ages, smiley mad Grin (one more for good measure!)

elliepac · 29/06/2011 23:21

Have just had a quick scroll through and seen that chb and swan have volunteered for July. Am quite happy to still do or to help or to lounge around and do nothing (am always quite happy to do that).

Nothing for a month and 3 in 20 minutes. Grin.

elliepac · 29/06/2011 23:34

Oooo and an app Grin. How exciting. Am desparately trying to get to sleep but brain is still whirring. Going to play with this for a while!

Hi all. Just wanted to pop head round door and say hello.
House move went well, am still unpacking, slowly! DH been away almost 8 wks, no sign of homecoming yet.
Had the worst week in ages, DD had bad news at SCBU follow up clinic.
Not getting much flying done at all, no energy.
hope to be back to see you all soon, must mark my spot when link appears for July.
Hope all is well, miss you. x

LinzerTorte · 30/06/2011 04:59

Morning all,

Looks like you were having a few problems with the links last night SC, so I'll post them again:

Today's babystep is to check your calendar for next month's events.

The mission is a quick vacuuming session in the living room.

Your post reminded me that I bought an ice cream called Bum Bum for DS yesterday and felt very silly having to ask for it. Grin

Lovely to see you again missjulie, but so sorry to hear about the bad news re your DD. Thinking of you.

ColdHeartedBitch · 30/06/2011 07:58

I volunteered for July? I thought i volunteered for august? Confused[mild panic]Blush Someone clear this up for me? Happy to august as child free for a good chunk of it. Not sure how July is going to pan out. Happy to do links but there is definetly 2 weekends that i am away in July, so would need covering for the links.

yesterday was a right off. far too tired after crazy child got up at 4am, had to nap in afternoon. needless to say the afternoon was full of grumpiness. And resulted in little getting done other then a child eating tea in bad having been banned to bedroom for behaviour. I am very pleased i didnt get aroundto dealin with his room as i would be starting from scratch this morning. so will only do it once over. Also bloody hell has mn blown up with two massive bun fights in the last two days. it really does nothing for my being productive.

Right wish list (as yesterday really):
Washing
dw run
folding
ironing
clothes away
ds' room
my room (15mins)
Return my tv to my room
sort out ds' training stuff.
take ds to training
make sure ds gets to school on time for first time this week Blush
Empty car of all the rubbish
load recycling and stuff for tip into car
Tip run to re-empty car.

Right bearing that is rather a long list i think i might need to go drink a gallon of coffee and rediscover that bio hazard suit.

Sorry to hear things are tough for you miss J - if you ever need some one to talk to and dd is still doing the night dayshifting i am around at stupid oclock alot atm.
