A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Hi everyone & thank u for the warm welcome! Grin

Ooh fish pie sounds lovely blue got me thinking now though DH is out tonight so only me to fend for.

I like the idea of the ta-da list- makes realise how much u have done.
Also thanks forthe reminder with the water- got though loads yesterday but should keep it up today.
So far
Up, showered dressed etc before DD woke up! (hurrah)
Gave family bathroom the briefest of once overs
Dw emptied
Laundry rebooted
Kitchen surfaces cleaned

To do: sweep & mop kitchen floor
Hoover downstairs
Peg out washing & wash my dress for party on fri night.Grin

Could do with running a few errands but we'll see how the weather goes.

Have a Good day everyone Smile

feetheart · 28/06/2011 09:15

Morning all.

No list yet as off to take surrogate granny to 5* hotel for 'Morning coffee' for her birthday. Will be eating cakes and drinking fresh orange in glorious surroundings. Flying can wait :)

Need to make myself presentable................back later.

LinzerTorte · 28/06/2011 10:03

swan Whenever I say that I only drink tea and coffee, I get told that they're dehydrating. However, I've also heard that this is only the case if you're not used to drinking them - and I def. feel thirstier if I don't have any tea/coffee, which surely I wouldn't if they were dehydrating? However, I know that I do need to drink more water.

Re child-free time, I suppose it all depends what you're used to. Four or more years ago, having 3 hrs 50 (yes, I count every minute) to myself every single day would have seemed like a complete luxury. And the fact that I don't have to worry about fitting in any work at the moment is a luxury as well. (But it's still too short.)

Now done:
Emptied and reloaded dishwasher
Fourth load in WM
Laminated flash cards
Dried hair
Tidied away breakfast things
Decided on pizza for lunch, even though I know DD2's friend will scrape the topping off

Doing:
Coffee Grin

Still to do (50 minutes of morning left):
Rest of morning routine
Fold and put away previous washing
Ironing
Deal with rest of washing

feetheart Morning coffee sounds lovely. Smile

I have made two decisions today. The to do list from hell that lurks in the background is being burnt. I am going to start from stratch... later...

Right now i am going to body declutter and catch up on some missing sleep. in the vague hope that later i can start with babystepping afresh. I am going to go back to day 1. a few days early perhaps. but i am going to stick with the first 5 babysteps or so and 15mins of decluttering, and essential chores (namely washing wet bedding and laundry) until the start of the new month. Sleep, or lack of is my flying achillies so if i can catch up on it this week i might stand a chance at flying.

Linzer - Sounds like you are getting very frustrated. hope you can achieve a bit more of what you want to do.

welcome to the mad flying thread. Wink

Hoping Ellie is doing ok

Thank goodness to there being 3 1/2 weeks left til summer hols!!!

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 28/06/2011 10:57

Thanks for the lovely warm welcome & tis warming to my heart that I am not alone with the constant struggle of wading through the mess that we all call home :-

Linzer I know how you feel (I think it was you) with a ds that wets the bed, mine does on a regular basis & dread waking him in am as know I will have to strip bed again

Well I have regained some routine this am,have actually managed to drag the dog around fields & washing is done & on line.....next to do bathroom as it currently requires an NBC suit just to enter it (I am a bad bad mother for letting it get like this but it comes from being 1 of ther few that volunteer).....then I will try to find the iron, dh not happy this am when he could not find a shirt for work & casually commented that maybe I should try doing some ironing (he was ignored royally with me grumbling under my breath that he had full use of his arms & hands, did not go down well :o )

Anyway I will be checking this thread on & off today as I think it will spur me on,dh and dc will not know what's hit them later on (hmm)

Ta ta for now

ColdHeartedBitch · 28/06/2011 11:03

Some one needs to link you to the section on children flying THACA Wink then the dc really wont know what has hit them Grin

Stillchuckingit · 28/06/2011 11:17

Morning all

Thanks for all your support and good wishes - I feel very luck to be officially "back to normal" even if still on the meds. But hey, thank heavens for 'em!

And if I may, to add to CHB's timely reminder about drinking water, take this as a warning folks (as I am going to)!!! I suspect I may be a decade or two older than many of you and used to be pretty fit. But I've let sporting activities slide in the past 5 or 6 years (apart from riding every week). So important to walk around 40/50 mins a day if nothing else. Did you know that in the developed world, three times as many women are killed by heart disease than all cancers combined? Shock Bit of a shocking statistic isn't it?

A very warm welcome to THehusbandsatcricketagain (great nickname btw!) Lol at your dog strategically shedding its fur ...!! Have you flown before? Just take a look at the first post of this thread and have a look around the Flylady website and jump right in. Any questions ... don't hesitate!

Funny about dh's isn't it? Mine goes into eye-rolling mode whenever I volunteer for anything.

Blue I'm starting to be converted to the ta-da list (well done with yours yesterday btw) Let us know if you take up Swan's suggestion of filling your paddling pool with cold spaghetti Grin

Toffee That's a cracking list you got through yesterday too.

Missing berry mystery even more bemusing when you consider our garden is surrounded by 7ft high walls on all sides ....

Swan THIS IS IMPORTANT - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE GO TO YOUR SEWING CLASS!! (Yes, I'm shouting, for which I apologise, but it's important to give yourself some time to do things you don't dread)

Glad you caught up on sleep CHB

Linzer you are being too hard on yourself - sometimes there is only time to cover the basic routines. Good luck with what sounds like a very busy few days ahead.

Reastie enjoy your teddy bears picnic

Lizard good luck with the rest of your list

Enjoy your morning in lovely, swanky hotel Feetheart sounds great!

Waves to everyone else!!

It's usually my day off today but because I have had so many of them recently I've got a huge back-log to get through. Better get back to it as need to finish early as dd still off school and baby-sitter has to leave early ...

OP posts:
Stillchuckingit · 28/06/2011 11:22

x posts Sounds like a plan CHB good luck with it!

[Leaves second bottle of wine in naughty corner for Ellie]

THSCA what a lovely post! Envy at you having fields nearby in which to drag the dog around Smile Good luck with bathroom mission. We'll notify the authorities if you haven't emerged by 6pm Grin

PositiveAttitude · 28/06/2011 12:17

I am so sorry for being AWOL for so long. I miss you all desperately but everything has been manic. I'm failing on routines and it shows.

Just read a little of your shenanigans.

I'm off out tonight but im going to try and check in after.

Hope to see you later! Grin

swanriver · 28/06/2011 13:52

SC couldn't go because the internet connection went down and couldn't check my e-mails/time and whereabouts of class..which was lucky because....
My MOBILE PHONE SHUT DOWN....and I had to spend an hour in town getting a new one
(phones are cheap aren't they? £8! and has a radio, wow! gosh, what is the world coming to?) SIM card was switched over, all is well. The last one, even more basic, cost me £40 three years ago..tis odd that...
Also bought [grinds teeth] another 3 purple teeshirts, in hope that one will please his lordship, from Evil Primark - that place is hell,
and tada
outfit for next weekend's family do (frothy chiffon, and matching hat), and school fete (roll sleeves up outfit for that one)

Home to hail and brimstone, the sky is a dirty grey colour
now to tackle dd's room for guest

swanriver · 28/06/2011 13:55

Nettie I was reading about your microfibre towels, thinking they were e-cloths, and completely perplexed that you were taking camping cleaning duties so seriously {grin] Microfibre sounds a brilliant idea for packable towels, btw. Sorry you had such foul morning with dd, it so wearing. Sugar and sleep only answer.

BlueEyeshadow · 28/06/2011 13:55

Bliss! It's finally starting to cool down...

Swan - could you buy a white t-shirt and some purple dye??

swanriver · 28/06/2011 13:57

nah, knowing me, it would run...and he would complain it looked "homespun"
Think woman's size 8 from Primark, if you don't look too closely at the inscription inside collar, will do trick.

Toffeefudgecake · 28/06/2011 14:34

Er...slid to a halt after all Blush.

Nettie - good to see you!

Wonderful storm here Smile.

ColdHeartedBitch · 28/06/2011 14:49

Migraine caught up with me. Not sure why. slept a bit. about to get ds from school. too hot. want to go back to sleep. Expect ds to be loud and needy tonight

NettieSpaghetti · 28/06/2011 15:01

I love thunderstorms! ESP thundery rain.

Dd has calmed down.

I have managed to put dw on again
Put supergliding feet on my sofas. So far so good. Can move without scraping the wooden floor!

Still to tackle my bedroom and get ready for tonight.
Cook ready made frozen pizza Blush for dc dinner! Leave dh his birthday steak to cook himself. Grin I'll make it up to him later Wink

swan sorry but had to laugh at you being impressed with your radio on your mobile. Even my mum and dad have more high tech phones than that. Microfibre cloth packed too. Grin
toffee and chb and blue lovely to see you all too.

Biscuit Brew for all

BlueEyeshadow · 28/06/2011 15:22

It's just started to thunder and pour with rain. Probably ought to shut the windows, but it's still 27C in the boys' room! Shock

Hi Nettie [waves] - good to see you again.

Stillchuckingit · 28/06/2011 15:40

Back home now. I wonder why it feels hotter inside than actually out in the sunshine??

Just forced myself in to action: handwashing woolly jumpers so they can dry outside, next task is to pack up on-line shopping orders for rtn (yawn) and declutter another box of papers (yawn). And then do some ironing for tomorrow (treble yawn) Ingredients for toad-in-the-whole ready but don't feel like meat ... may have to think of alternative ...

Keep going Toffee!!! (Like you, I have a yearning for hammocks in this weather)

oh no PA yet more broken nights... 4 in a row is not funny. Hark at you jogging!!! That's BRILLIANT - good on you!! (Which reminds me, doc said I must walk for an hour a day or do 30 mins on exercise bike ... haven't done either yet)

Yay Nettie good to see you - we miss you too!! You are not failing - just leap back in when you have a mo. Arf at "super-gliding feet" - thought you were referring to your own for a minute there!! Happy birthday to your dh. HAve fun tonight and 'see you' soon!

Swan shame about class but glad you did some shopping for yourself. Arf at serial purple-t-shirt-buying ...

CHB I often get migraines in hot weather - especially when it's humid like this - hope it goes once the weather breaks.

Roll on thunder and rain (once my washing is dry of course)

Right, must apply thumb-screws to myself and continue my list ...

OP posts:
Stillchuckingit · 28/06/2011 15:58

Blue it's that hot, that if it starts raining here I am going to stand nekked on the terrace and scare the neighbours!!

OP posts:
ColdHeartedBitch · 28/06/2011 16:14

I have a new plan. it involves a skip and throwing any toys and junk which doesnt have a home or the owner cba to put away into it. ds is refusing to put his toys away he is 6 ffs and is perfectly capable. I will not put them away any more. he has until i get out of the shower and then they go.

BartletForAmerica · 28/06/2011 17:00

So nice that we've had some decent thunderstorms now! Judging from the time between the thunder and the lightning, it was right above my house for some of the time. I've never heard anything like it - and yet the baby slept right through it all!

So for today,

Ta Da (what a great idea!)
Get dressed and straighten hair
Bedrooms (I set the timer for 5 minutes just to 'reset' the bedrooms - this is getting easier and easier as my DH has really taken on board some of this stuff so now is better at tidying and never leaving a room empty handed.)
Bathroom (another 5 mins)
Laundry (Hmm, put out last night to dry overnight - has now experienced a number of storms - looks like it is going to be sunny tomorrow so it can stay there for another night...)
Toddler group
Buy nappies (I love Ocado and hate the way that Tesco (and to a slightly lesser extent Sainsbury's) is taking over the world but have to grudgingly admit that the Tesco own brand nappies are the best we've found)
Dinner (cottage pie in the oven)
Shine sink
Water plants (trying to grow herbs for the millionth time - will I kill them off this time?)
15 deep cleaning living room (all done apart from the vacuuming of the floor and the sofa - will leave that until after DS has had his tea!)

To Do
Plan tomorrow
Pilates class
Review tomorrow's meals (don't think I have anything to prep tonight, which is nice)
Tidy lounge
Shine sink
Finish planning Sunday School lesson

Thanks to the marvellous updating of the Flylady plan by still here, I've also unsubscribed from her emails. Life feels less cluttered already!

Stillchuckingit · 28/06/2011 18:10

Thanks Bartlett glad to have contributed to cyber decluttering Smile !! You have done marvellous things yourself with Flying in rl!! Glad your baby wasn't disturbed by the storm - everything black and rumbling here so I think it is about to strike - and we've lost the Wimbledon signal ...

CHB imagines assortment of stuffed bears and rabbits lying forlornly in skip Wink

Finally got my arse into gear.

Post letter done
Tidy kitchen done Grin
Kitchen hotspot done! Grin Grin
Unload d/w done
Dry wet clothes doing
Put dry washing away
Room rescues - all main rooms did sitting room and DS2's room
Emails
Water thirsty plants no need, thanks to rain
Ironing
SN stuff - complete and return forms. Print out copies for my files.

Also did dinner.

Feel as if I'm finally getting on top of things again. Will spend this evening doing ironing and going over SN stuff.

Bartlett - you have done fantastic stuff today! I really like the timer idea that Flylady recommends. I used to do nothing because I felt overwhelmed. Now I set the timer for 5 - 15 mins, depending on what I'm doing, and at least I feel I have achieved something. Might do exactly that for ironing tonight.

I asked DS2 this evening why the sitting room was so untidy (Playmobil all over the floor). He grinned and said, "It's the mess monster." It certainly is. But I have been fighting back!

Hope you all get some sleep tonight (am thinking in particular of you, CBA, and of you, PA!).
