Welcome way - I am glad you came over.

For now I would stick to whatever babystep you are on and do no more.

There is a battle of wills going on in this house over who will load the dishwasher and shine the sink. It is unspoken but it is there Grin

I have been pottering in the garden nearly all day. Tomorrow I plan a house blessing, some ironing and possibly loading the dishwasher and shining the sink if dh doesn't give in tonight Hmm

Longtalljosie · 10/05/2011 09:58

Dosey - if anything happens with the web use, keep your cool and argue your corner. Say that yes, Mumsnet is a parenting site and Flylady a home organisation and cleaning site. Just as you often think about work when you're at home, you will also think about home problems during quiet moments at work. You are good at multi-tasking so it comes naturally, although if they would rather you didn't, you won't. Ask if there is a problem with your productivity, because you consider yourself to be very productive. Present it as part of your multi-tasking personality!

Carrotsandcelery · 10/05/2011 12:22

Dosey I hope all is ok today.

Some of the businesses round here allow each employee a certain amount of personal internet time each day. It could be suggested to your employer as a way of allowing a little but avoiding an excess.

It would seem unrealistic for an employee never to look at anything on the web.

You could also "waste" equal amounts of time at the coffee maker, in the ladies, if you were a smoker etc. I know that won't necessarily wash with the employer though.

The other point is that if there has not yet been a policy about internet use and your productivity is not an issue then you are not at fault. Once they instigate a policy then I imagine it would be different.

Good luck anyway - I hate being in limbo. If I am going to get it in the neck I would rather just get on with it.

The other thing I would say is that if the whole office is being checked on then I imagine some employees have been on far more Blush sites than mumsnet and flylady!

Dosey · 11/05/2011 20:05

thanks for that carrots. A few colleagues have been taken off into meetings about it and so far I have not been one of them so I maybe ok. I will have to wait and see. This week I have been good and done nothing but my work and to be honest havent got anymore work done.

On the housework front I have managed to do my daily missions and routines. I find the kitchen zone easy to manage, I tend to do my mission after washing up on a night so it doesnt feel so time consuming. I am just about to go and water the garden and pull some weeds up.

Thanks again for the message carrots x

Carrotsandcelery · 11/05/2011 20:33

I have completely lost the plot.

I also lost the dishes standoff the other night and ended up with a mountain of dishes the next day.

In his defence, dh was off today and made tea for us coming home late from activities and has loaded the dishwasher too so he is not all bad.

He also took me to see a film today (Hanna) as it is Orange Wednesday and he now has an orange network phone Grin

Sooooo...I have not done anything at all today.

Dosey I am glad you have not been called in yet. Fingers are crossed for you.

Longtalljosie · 12/05/2011 09:15

Hmm - the problem is, carrots, that if your DH isn't completely on board you'll always end up with your Flying being as strong as the weakest link! Is there anything else you can make "his" jobs, so you can get on with "your" things?

Carrotsandcelery · 12/05/2011 11:21

Morning all - I am taking a short break from my house blessing. I have done both bathrooms and the 2 bedrooms downstairs and the majority of the kitchen. Just really got the lounge to dust off.

I went to empty the washing machine but I had loaded it and not switched it on. Pah!

Long I think you are right - we all need to commit to flylady to make it work. He was fab at the start but has been working long hours, which means I have more to do too.

He is currently communing with the compost heap. Apparently something very large and furry scurried out at high speed so I will be leaving that job to him. [fear emoticon]

We have also agreed that I am not going to dust his bedside table as it is always covered in stuff which just annoys me and I always manage to adjust the volume on his alarm when I do it and either wake the whole household with it or he doesn't hear it at all and we all sleep in.

He is not enjoying the fact that things have slipped though so hopefully the contrast will encourage him to help me get things back on track.

Dosey · 13/05/2011 11:11

hi everybody, just finished my blessing and I managed to get it done in an hour because I didnt let myself get side tracked. Well I have half an hour before picking up dd from playgroup so I am just going to check flylady for today and try and get 15 minutes in the garden before it rains.

xxxx

Carrotsandcelery · 13/05/2011 11:49

Hi Dosey - I have done things the other way around. I set out to do 15 mins of weeding in the garden but have done an hour. I did it first as although it is glorious there is rain forecast.

Now I am having an early salad before I do a bit of ironing as that is building up. Then I have several hotspots to attack, the dishwasher to tackle and the washing to hang out - infact I should do that first.

Longtalljosie · 13/05/2011 12:50

Urgh, I want to veg on the sofa... but must move and bless house... don't want to...

Carrotsandcelery · 13/05/2011 14:02

Oh dear Long I know that feeling well. Is there a veg on sofa hotspot you can take to the sofa and deal with from there?

I have dealt with the pile of paperwork on the sideboard hotspot. It took me a while but it is great to know it is done. Most of it went into the recycling and could have gone there in the first instance - I am trying to make a mental note to myself to do that.

Longtalljosie · 13/05/2011 15:10

Ha! If only there were... I have spent some time finishing off the kitchen cupboards (they have little nooks and crannies so they're harder to clean) and have done a bit of putting away. Will tackle the hall hotspot in a minute. Have also put through lots of laundry - it's really piled up all of a sudden...

Carrotsandcelery · 13/05/2011 16:15

I am having trouble drying laundry now that the heating is not on as I don't have a washing line. I bought a clothes horse which I can put out on the back step when it is nice but it only holds one load. It is really slowing things up.

bessie26 · 14/05/2011 07:05

Morning ladies! I thought i'd just pop my head round the door this morning to do a surprise shiny sink inspection!! Wink

I'm just about managing to keep a shiny sink (I scrubbed my taps yesterday), stay on top of the laundry (carrots how come you don't have an outside line?) and vacuum. DD2 is now 3 weeks old so I'm impressed I'm finding time to do anything other than nap!! Smile

Longtalljosie · 14/05/2011 08:08

Hello Bessie - congratulations! How did that pass me by?! Blush

I'm hugely impressed you're managing to do all that I must say...

Carrots, if you don't have the space for a rotary airer you can get those retractable ones?

Carrotsandcelery · 14/05/2011 09:00

bessie how lovely to hear from you. I can't believe that is 3 weeks already! It sounds like you are getting more flying done than I am Shock

We had the choice of putting the mahoosive trampoline on the lawn or removing the washing line and putting the trampoline on the big gravelled area behind the garage - so behind the garage it was. We get a lot of birds and half of all the laundry I hung on it ended up back in the wash as they pooed on it or ate geans (wild cherries) and stained the laundry with their drips.

spinds · 14/05/2011 09:49

Just found this thread and am ridiculously pleased! My house is a tip, and it is really beginning to get me down, especially when I need to find something and it takes me hours. I joined fly lady last week but tbh found it a bit cheesy, but this thread looks great. I need the motivation of others, and it's great that you don't all sound impossibly perfect! Can I play too?!

Carrotsandcelery · 14/05/2011 10:15

Hi spinds - welcome to the thread!

Are you still following the babysteps? We found the flylady stuff cheesy too but we did find the babysteps and later the missions, mostly very helpful. We pick and choose iyswim.

I have been ironing but can only do a few items at a time because my arm is still a bit temperamental. If I go easy I can do lots but I have to do it in little bursts.

Downstairs needs a 2 minute declutter and a hoover. Dh is taking the dcs out in an hour so I am waiting until then.

Longtalljosie · 14/05/2011 11:57

What do you mean we're not all impossibly perfect?! Grin

Welcome spinds, nice to see you! Where are you with flying, are you doing the babysteps? I never subscribed to the email or (god help us) looked at the Motivational Poetry but found them quite useful to start off with...

Longtalljosie · 14/05/2011 11:59

Ooh x-post celery, hello, just picked up my computer and should have pressed refresh first!

Mind that arm - just like you always say with my back, if you push it you'll set yourself back...

Speaking of ironing, it's staring at me. Off I go...

Carrotsandcelery · 14/05/2011 23:30

Oh help! We, as a family, have declared war on the local tip study. We are launching a surprise attack tomorrow morning.

Luckily, we have Danish for breakfast first Grin

Longtalljosie · 15/05/2011 08:28

Excellent. You'll feel so good once it's done!

Carrotsandcelery · 15/05/2011 13:09

Well the study has won round one. Everyone has gone out except me and the dog. I made a start but felt an idiot that, yet again, it was me doing it alone. So I have stopped.

Dh won't be home properly until about 7pm but frankly it is mostly his mess and him who is moaning, randomly, about it, yet he is the one who does nothing to help so I have had enough.

I am going to be radical and please myself until I have to collect ds.

Carrotsandcelery · 16/05/2011 12:03

Morning all! I have been very domesticated this morning after my mini strike yesterday.

I have put on a wash, folded laundry, hung out more laundry and made a dent in the pile of ironing.

Worktops are scrubbed, table decluttered etc.

I still have the side board to declutter again but it is a 5 min job again after catching up on it last week.

Today's mission is here the bathroom and one other room

The other room is supposed to be the dumping ground so I think that is a sign that the study needs to be tackled. Sad

Carrotsandcelery · 16/05/2011 12:05

I had forgotten the 15 minute flylady thing! I just read the link properly and all I have to do is go into the study for 15 minutes and find stuff to throw out. I don't feel as disheartened now. I don't have to do the whole room in one go.
