good morning shiny happy people - everyone is doing so well - we must have the shiniest sinks in UK!

back to work now but my sink still shining on day 5 and my new to do list strategy is going well.

I am not doing the big tent messages or hte post its I am using a notebook for what I need to do each week/day off my central to do list. I have just one thing per day (on top of normal daily chores) e.g call builder, take library books back, buy birthday card etc so thats making it feel managable

going to do step 6 the 2 minute hot spot declutter tomorrow so I can keep track of the steps as number of step equals date in the month- I have 6 hot spots

going to unsubscribe to flylady email its bonkers!!

still not fixed shredder but can actually see the desk now as am sorting 5 bits of paperwork a day - should all be sorted by 2012!!

have a great day all!

Morning everyone, did sign up on this thread a while back but not posted since. Have been busy sink shining and getting dressed, and hot-spotting today with the window sill in the hall which has all manner of rubbish on it. Completely agree with not sticking post its everywhere but have found a list of morning and evening jobs on the inside of a kitchen cupboard a very good reminder!

Carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2011 11:00

abgirl that is a good idea. I am already planning to put a list inside cleaning cupboard of what is in there so I don't overbuy, as I am inclined to do.
The list will also help dh. He will help if not asked to. If he can look at a list and choose what he will do from it he will do stuff. If I ask him to do stuff it takes him a long time. It makes me Angry but try to remember he is bossed around at work and doesn't need me nagging.
I have put a load in the washer and hung up a load on the pulley to dry.
Then I tackled ds bedroom which was truely scary. I broke the rules though and was up there about an hour and half. Everything has a place/box now - just have to tackle a pile of clothes up there and it will be done so very satisfying.
Should probably view that as an extra and do a 2 minute hot spot on the kitchen table as it is beginning to build up and I have no idea where we will eat tea if I leave it to grow.

MickyLee · 05/01/2011 11:36

Just by chance, I bought myself a new pan and inside it came a free kitchen timer! So last night when I was feeling really lazy, I set it for 15 minutes and put as much away as possible before it went off. The place was almost perfect (tidy wise) after the 15 minutes.. very impressed. The timer will be my new best friend I think.

So far I am
-shining sink
-putting a wash load on
-getting dressed asap
-15 minutes in the zone of de-cluttering or detailed cleaning
Everyday.
And every monday Home blessing hour.

Unwind · 05/01/2011 12:18

For my "control journal"

So far we are:

Before bed

  • 2 minute hot spot declutter
  • shine sink

As soon as we get up

  • dress to shoes, hair and makeup (if you wear any, or moisturiser otherwise)

and we are writing stuff down

is that it?

abgirl · 05/01/2011 12:34

Yep, think so and starting hot-spotting tomorrow.

twinterror · 05/01/2011 13:07

Unwind - yes that is it (unless you want to visit fly lady big tent, and give yourself positive thoughts)

Calamity has struck - whilst feeling smug about my sink etc..was distracted by dcs whilst cooking - set fire to new blender (bought on sunday) which has fused plug socket...ever feel like 2 steps forward, 3 steps back?? Shock

JaxTellersOldLady · 05/01/2011 13:12

oh dear twin terror, that sounds like my house.

I did a couple of loads of washing,
emptied and refilled dishwasher,
cleaned sink, cleaned kitchen doors, dishwasher front and washing machine.

Have decluttered our bedroom with the help of DH who is still on 'holiday' (dont get me started!) and we tidied and hoovered the childrens bedrooms and I cleaned the windows in their bedrooms, our bedroom and now I have had enough. The downstairs floors need a scrub though, will do that this evening when everyone is in bed and dogs are asleep. It is their muddy footprints driving me crazy.

Almost time to collect them from school, no doubt I will still find things to do later.

twinterror · 05/01/2011 13:16

Yes Jax we too have done the 'playing the garden' muddy footprints today!!

its never ending isn't it

Unwind · 05/01/2011 13:25

I think that is why I need the flylady routines, otherwise I just want to give up in despair. Nobody notices that houswork has been done, but they notice when it hasn't been done!

My DH wants to help out more, and has suggested we make a rota. No idea how that will fit in with flylady though, and am not sure if it will interfere with my habit-building. Anyone had any success with dividing chores?

dylsmum1998 · 05/01/2011 16:29

hello all. I have ran lots of errands today that need doing, and tackled my paperwork hotspot in the kitchen, found some bills and paid them too.

Have just finished altering an old bridesmaid dress I was given for dd so that she can wear it to her friends princess party at the weekend.
I have only been flying again for a couple of days but the house is looking so much better already.

Micky good idea with the kitchen timer, when I was flying last time I used to set the timer on my phone.

sparklyjewlz · 05/01/2011 16:34

Unwind- I absolutely agree with you! That's what makes housework so soulless. However the shiny sink thing is working because it's such a boost to think one thing is really clean (especially something we spend so much time at).
Grab at your husband's suggestion of a rota...grab it!

SilveryMoon · 05/01/2011 16:40

HeLlo all, just having a look in whilst on the train. I didn't manage to do the sink last night, but am climbing back on board. Promise.
I have 2 hotspots. I have an old ice cream tub on my kitchen counter that houses keys, pens, batteries, letters and lots more, then in my bedroom there is a table somewhere under a pile of crap!! I'm going to buy a shredder at the weekend and then start on the paperwork.

We have someone coming to look at the washing machine tonight, must make sure my sink is clean for that!

bessie26 · 05/01/2011 18:04

Unwind, defo give some chores to your DH! or publish your CJ and let him loose on whatever he fancies doing!

My DH has a few specific chores, as well as helping out generally. He puts the bins out, washes up after dinner each night, and tidies the kitchen at the weekend. He is also supposed to make sure the bathroom sink is clean each morning (after he has shaved) but he's not remembering to do that every day yet!

Carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2011 19:14

Unwind I would do as bessie suggests and write a list of all the jobs which need to be done.
If he has some choice in the jobs he is assigned he is more likely to do them.
Alternatively just leave the list on the pinboard and he can pick and choose as the mood takes him.

This is roughly how we operate. Dh's time in the house is very variable (often does very late evenings/long days) so it doesn't make sense to have a strict rota for him. He is not too lazy Hmm so pitches in usually. He hates being told what to do though.

SilveryMoon · 05/01/2011 20:14

Evening Smile
So are we all on babystep 6 for today (wednesday)?

Here is babystep 7 which I believe i for tomorrow

Just tackled my kitchen hotspot and will shine ssink in a bit. I will def 100% do it tonight. Was rubbish getting up to a stack of plates, and then coming home after work to a manky sink!

FleeBee · 05/01/2011 20:52

Sorry not getting to grips with this! WHat is home blessing hour?? Do I need a priest?

Was a bit slack yesterday, but in the middle of a massive ironing pile really hoping to get this done tonight!

SilveryMoon · 05/01/2011 20:55

weekly home blessing Grin

Dosey · 05/01/2011 20:57

hi everybody, I am loving this thread as my incentive to keep up with the babysteps. I am very proud of my shining sink, tackled a hot spot in dds bedroom might do another one before bed. Have taken a look at tomorrows baby step and I am going to lay out my clothes for tomorrow. I do dds on a night so makes sense to do mine too.

We are all doing very well Smile

bessie26 · 05/01/2011 21:05

just looking at the home blessing thing - changing the bedsheets every week eh? I do DD's every sunday, but ours normally just get done whenever I have space in the laundry basket!

babystep 7 looks good - I always lay out DD's clothes if she's at nursery the next day, but never think to do mine when I'm at work, that could save me precious minutes in the morning!

right then - I'm off to

  • shine my sink
  • put some laundry on (got washing machine fixed today )
  • lay out my clothes

after I've done all that & got ready for bed I will be checking back to see if silvery has done her sink Wink

noeyedear · 05/01/2011 21:07

Hi all, My internet was broken yesterday, so didn't get what the babystep was. Was it a Hot spot? I suppose I could do that tomorrow. I might do them in the morning instead, as I'm now on maternity leave ( Yipee!) and have more energy in the morning! My whole back room is a real mess. Would that count as a hot spot, or is it just the surfaces that have loads of cr*p on?

abgirl · 05/01/2011 21:09

Have done my sink and tackled the hall windowsill hotspot. I sort out my clothes for the week on a Sunday night so got that one covered alreadyGrin

abgirl · 05/01/2011 21:10

Re changing bedsheets - I do ours and DSs on alternate weeks which works well for us and is fairly manageable.

Fruitpastels · 05/01/2011 21:11

Evening ladies, Only posted once but have been here and reading everyone's progress. Thanks silvery for posting our step for tomorrow. I'm all set and have managed to keep to the baby steps so far Smile. I have lots of motivation, I just hope I can keep this up!
