I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? I am making a start. Last night went to bed at a decent hour. (head was banging due to flu/migraine). Sink is full of pots which about to wash. Put a wash in tumble dryer, need to put another wash on. Found a nit in my hair so everyone will need to be checked and maybe treated, which always takes ages and lots of tears.

abgirl · 31/12/2010 09:55

I'd like to join to please. Have been a regular flyer in the past but it all went to pot in the autumn when we redecorated the hall, dining room and kitchen all in one go - all looks lovely now so would like to keep it like that!

a1b2, am feeling your pain re the nits - when we had an attack DH and DSs with short hair were fine, I cried buckets having my long hair done and soon after got it cut off into a bob!

detachandtrustyourself · 31/12/2010 10:35

abgirl, ha ha, my hair has gradually gone from long to a short crop, just so it is easier to treat nits. The dcs moan so much about having treatment, and youngest cries. (long hair).

Well done with the decorating.

I was on a thread yesterday which had some meal plans on a budget, but cannot find it again. Often see vague ideas like, jacket potatoes, but need a plan for every day, with some variety, that dcs will not moan about too much.

SilveryMoon · 31/12/2010 10:40

a1b2 Try this site. I love it, so simple and quick.
meal planning

detachandtrustyourself · 31/12/2010 10:50

Thank You Silvery, I love the way it is costed for however many days, and quick preparation times. I am a bit lazy rubbish at cooking busy working part time and with the family and house/washing etc.

SilveryMoon · 31/12/2010 11:00

Yes, that's why I love it. It gives you a printable shopping list too which is fab.
I tend to get into my kitchen for a couple of hours on a sunday morning and cook up for the week, label it all and chuck in the freezer.
A friend of mine looks after my ds's when I'm at work so I send all meals in. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, also for her ds.

MickyLee · 31/12/2010 11:11

Can I join too please. I followed Flylady for about 6 months last year then got out of the habit! I really need to sort this place out.

JetLi · 31/12/2010 11:44

I'm in - because of DP's family staying over at Christmas, the house is more reasonable than it has been in 2 years Xmas Blush which is when they last stayed over Xmas Blush Xmas Blush.

Baby #2 due in Feb so I'll sink without trace if I don't get some good habits sorted now.

SilveryMoon · 31/12/2010 13:03

JetLi when in feb? My ds2 was born on the 4th. He'll be 2 Shock this year!!!

I've just been to Tesco and done a weekly shop as planned next weeks meals this morning.

Just having lunch and then I'm gonna make a start taking the tree down and putting cards etc away so I have a fresh place to start with tomorrow.

How's thi working then?
Tomorrow are we all starting on babystep 1 and that's it or what?

Carrotsandcelery · 31/12/2010 15:52

Ok so this is new to me - are you saying all I have to do day one is "shine" my sink? I think even I can start with that step. Have I misunderstood?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 31/12/2010 19:20

yes, just shine your sink (plus other bits and bobs you usually do). It does start to gain pace quickly so enjoy the days it's only one or two things Grin

OP posts:
twinterror · 31/12/2010 20:20

hey all I would like to join (gulp...when am I going to find time to shine the sink??) = secret lemonade drinker are you planning to tell us each day what the task is or do we sign up to fly lady?

can I confess right now (at risk of being yelled at) - I do have a cleaner who does the main bits every week and the ironing - but I have a to do list of 47 items (minimum - thats just carry over from last year) - I could have spent the hols getting on top of things but would rather spend some quality time with the dcs. the day to day stuff I can keep on top of its the other stuff (just seen a basket of bibs on the side - my dcs are 3 - hello??- get rid of them)

silvery moon - my day is similar to yours - up at 6.10am, out of house by 7.30pm get back 6pm dcs to bed 7pm then washing/dishwasher/tidy up/bags ready for next day/rubbish out/dinner made etc then its 9pm (DH is fab, he normally does dinner). so not a lot of sink shining opportunity, but I only work 3 days a week so I need to be a bit more disciplines and not spend all day doing lovely things with the dcs but a bit of time doing all the jobs.

tomorrow: will shine sink. have 15 people coming for drinks and food but will find time to do sink!

CointreauVersial · 31/12/2010 23:24

Well, I'm very tempted to join you guys - I had a look at the other FLY threads, but they all seem like experts. I am definitely a lapsed domestic goddess.

Very unusually, I am sitting in a very clean and tidy house at the moment - we had lots of people over for Christmas and are throwing a drinks party tomorrow - but it so easily slips into chaos and I'd love a routine to keep it tidy.

I will be shining my sink tomorrow with you all (as soon as my guests have pushed off, that is).

bessie26 · 31/12/2010 23:59

Hi, can I join in too? Have only just found this area on talk, and had never heard of the fly lady until then, but it sounds great! I did start to make a similar sounding routine up a year or so ago, but i got ill & never managed to start it up again!

#2 is due in the spring, so I desperately need to declutter, and meal planning is one of my most hated jobs atm, so if anyone has any specific tips for those I would be most grateful!

SilveryMoon · 01/01/2011 07:54

bessie scroll up the thread and have a look at the site I linked for meal planning.

JetLi · 01/01/2011 12:33

Baby due 6th Feb Silvery - although my money is one it being a few days late Smile

Ba8y1 · 01/01/2011 15:11

Hi ladies, can I join?! Started trying to fly in November and have done really well with the shiny sink each night and the morning swish and swipe but have failed to progress and admit even those bits have lapsed over christmas.

Jet Li my 1st DC is due on the 4th Feb so determined to get at least a little more organised before then! Prob with being pg is I have absolutely no energy whatsoever and horrid spd so hope this thread will be whats needed to maintain my motivation!
Silverymoon love the menu planning site (my particular pet hate is menu planning!) - many thanks!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope all your sinks will be shining today!! Smile

Unwind · 01/01/2011 15:16

May I join you? Was doing it, but let it slide...

SilveryMoon · 01/01/2011 17:11

Evening ladies Smile
here is a link to the shining sink instructions, just incase you missed it.
Note that it does not say you have to wash up first, just empty the sink, clear the draining board and get it shining.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 01/01/2011 17:18

EEEvening, not done sink yet, waitingfor dh to go to work & dss in bed. Have 'til 23.59 lol. You all done yours ? On phone so dodgy typing...

SilveryMoon · 01/01/2011 17:21

Evening ASLD
I'm in the process of cooking dinner, then comes the washing up and sink will be shiny before I go to bed Smile

Also, wanted to add, I have been semi-flying for about a year, and in order to keep a smile on my face when I enter the kitchen, I cleared the cupboard under the sink and keep a big plastic box in there.
I put dirty plates etc in the box through the day and do the washing up in the evening. I don't like to see plates and cups stacked waiting to be cleaned.
My kitchen (mostly) looks tidy

MickyLee · 01/01/2011 17:29

Thank you SliveryMoon. I will be shining my sink in half an hour.
Really looking forward to getting on top of my place here. It is not dirty as such, just messy and jobs like cleaning to fridge out etc seem to get missed until it is terrible. I want my home to flow and be organised.

SilveryMoon · 01/01/2011 17:35

It will be Micky
I felt the same, when I started. I just need to stay motivated, which is where this thread will come in Grin

FleeBee · 01/01/2011 18:23

Please can I join? I'm a SAHM with 2 DC 1 just turned 3 and the other is 19 months, and I'm so unorganised and messy, that it really gets me down.

I'd love some help and motivation from you guys! thanks

WannabeNigella · 01/01/2011 18:43

Joining too please. I seem to constantly be doing housework but still have loads to do so maybe this will help.
