I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? Trinity - how have you done today? Make sure you shine your sink tonight and you will have done as much as anyone! I can't tell you what a difference it made to come down this morning to a clean and shiny sink. That is just the first step - we can all do this.

Will be back later - kids in PJ's and bathed them but still not finished the roast as had to nip into work

Guacamole · 03/01/2011 19:02

I am so NOT going to stick post it notes around my house, that would drive me nuts. I hate clutter and I would just find them too messy especially as they will no doubt fall off and end up on the floor. I will however get dressed and shine my sink. I hope day 5 is more interesting, I'm getting bored of sink shining!

Guacamole · 03/01/2011 19:04

Ooooohh I've just realised, who needs post it notes when I have the homeroutines app!

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 19:09

Lol Guacamole the idea of these babysteps is to make setting up a routine easy.
It does pick up, don't worry. We will continue to shine our sinks of an evening, but soon will be laying out the following days clothes, doing a 5 min room rescue, swish and swiping bathroom and looking at flight plans and missions for the day.
Apparently it takes 30 to fully establish a new habit, which is why we seem to move so slowly.
We are only on day 3, just take it easy.
When I first started the year before last, I took on too much and I failed.
i then started again and took things slower and was fine until I became too obsessive so had to calm myself down again, and then I started working so completely lost it!!
I'm hoping I will be able to find a way to do all I want to around the house in a quick and simple manner.
i also have not put sticky notes around my house.

dylsmum1998 · 03/01/2011 19:54

Evening all

Sorry only jsut made it back on pc, then couldn't find this thread.

I have been having a major declutter today. Ready to get myself back in routines from tomorrow so that they are in place before I go back to uni next week.

Have taken down all the decs. GOt the children to understand their jobs after meals (hope they don't think its just today they count for! Grin)

Am going to go and check out the baby steps. Sorry I haven't read through all the pages of the thread as I'm too tired. Hopefully will catch upp with everyone as we go Smile

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 20:43

I have shined my sink but now realise dh is munching nuts and is guaranteed to leave his bowl dumped beside the sink [frustrated emoticon] so suspect I will be doing a touch up job.
Schools go back for us on Wednesday so I will have to do lunches and lay out clothes tomorrow too.
Silvery please explain why you are wiping down walls in the hallway? I have never heard of this! Shock

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 20:45

carrots My ds's are 2 and 3, so we often get sticky fingerprints around.
Mondays is my day to go around with the feather duster and wipe the walls in the current zone.

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2011 20:51

A fairly productive day here. My list this morning was:

Shine sink - not done yet, leaving for the end of the day
Get dressed (going for a run first ) - DONE (and the run)
Dig out kids uniform and sports bags - DONE
Pay school dinners - DONE
Package birthday present for neice - will do later in front of TV
Tackle paperwork drawer to see if there are any unpaid bills shoved in there over Christmas - DONE (there were several!)
Dismantle giant "den" that has appeared in dd1's bedroom over the last few days - DONE (well, the dds did, protesting loudly)
Visit bottle bank and buy petrol before it goes up tomorrow. - DONE (by dh!)

I have also cleaned out the rabbit cage, as the poor thing was sitting on more poo than could possibly have been good for him.

Back to the old routine tomorrow, so fingers crossed I can keep this up!

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 21:01

aha! I understand now. I thought I was a serious slattern and had missed something there. Grin

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 21:24

No no, it's me allowing my feral children to run around eating chocolate biscuits Blush

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 21:32

I miss my babies being that age but had forgotten about the trail of goo they leave. Keep telling me these stories before I relent and have dc no 3!

dylsmum1998 · 03/01/2011 22:42

Silvery moon I need to wipe down the walls as well, lots of low down finger marks!

I have made my routines this evening and have completed my evening routine. Hopefully I will be able to stick to them!

anyway going to go and try to get some sleep ds is back to school tomorrow so I have to get up for the first time in weeks Sad

SharonGless · 03/01/2011 22:50

Got DC in bed at 8pm but got one more day before school/work. Cleaned up after tea and have shined my sink. Done 3 loads of washing today and sorted into piles ready to iron tomorrow - priorities.

Xmas presents are away but the DC rooms still need a proper declutter but presume that comes into zones. As soon as I was putting toys away they were rediscovering old ones and playing with them!

I have done swish swipe in bathroom for last two days and can't believe how much better it looks just for doing that.

SharonGless · 04/01/2011 09:07

Ok looks like I am first here as presume everyone else is at work/school.
Silverymoon has already linked to babysteps but am not sticking post it notes everywhere. My friend bought me a Cath Kidston notebook so will use that as my control journal.
Dishwasher unloaded and kitchen looks tidy for once. Am going to do my weekly home blessing today but taking kids out for play in the snow first.

Guacamole · 04/01/2011 09:19

I've not started this home blessing, I have to admit when I first saw the term I thought it has something to do with prayer Grin. DH is back at work today but I am determined to get dressed, sink shining can wait until tonight!

WannabeNigella · 04/01/2011 09:35

Im checking back in to get myself back on track, am following the iphone app "Home Routine" and although I am completing all my morning and evening tasks I have so far failed to get the momentum to do 15 minutes in the "focus zone".

Are everyones sinks still getting shined? Mine has never been so sparkly Smile

Carrotsandcelery · 04/01/2011 10:07

Got up to a shiny sink (well clean and fresh - it is black), have stripped bed and chucked it in the wash and hung up last night's load to dry and living room is dusted and hoovered.
Off to get washed and dressed in a mo - then it is thank you card making and writing before dcs go back to school tomorrow.
I am a bit confused about this focus zone business. Are we supposed to be doing that already?

aPixieInMyCaramelLatte · 04/01/2011 13:20

Well apart from getting up to a shiny sink, All I've done today is put the nappies on to wash.

We are all feeling pretty crappy actually with cold's and flu so I have 2 babies in bed sleeping, one grown man on the sofa sleeping and I'm just about to go have a long bath.

That'll give me the motivation to get dressed to shoes (unless I just fall back into bed) Then do the dishes from Lunch. (Breakfast dishes already done)

I'm not doing post it notes either,

I have a notebook journal thing on my ipad as well as the Home Routine, so I'm going to sit down with a nice fresh coffee later (I'm gonna need it) and get it all filled out then have an early night.

FleeBee · 04/01/2011 14:04

I haven't got an i-phone so not up to date.

I've been shining my sink and getting dressed so a start! What's the focus thingy and post-it notes? I'm a bit lost now.

SharonGless · 04/01/2011 15:18

All the zones come later. Babysteps only to start with otherwise from what other people say it is easy to get overwhelmed with it all.

I haven't got an iphone or ipad so just using the website and this thread. We are only flybabies remember!

SilveryMoon · 04/01/2011 15:57

Hi all.
On the bus on my way home from work.
Yes, don't worry about zone cleaning just yet, that will come soon.
We are for now, getting dressed to shoes in the morning, shining our sinks at night and displaying our daily reminders, but looks like most of us are going to skip that or use diaries/notepads. Whatever works for you!
Don't know of the top of my head what tomorrows step is and on the blackberry atm, but sure one of us can link it later.
I think as long as we are all keeping our kitchen sinks clean and dry (shiny where applicable) and getting dressed either in day clothes or houseclothes we are all on track.
I've got extra bits in my routines because I have 'fluttered' before, but as this is the first time I am trying to keep ontop of housework whilst being out of the home, I am determined to take it slowly to ensure I do not fail.

Before I had children, I was a pub manager so I lived on site which meant effectively I was always at home and could run up to flat when bar was quiet. This is the first time ever I have had to leave the building to go to work so I am keen to structure my tasks and ensure I manage to spend an hour a day with the boys before they go to bed.

Carrotsandcelery · 04/01/2011 17:44

Welcome home SilveryMoon - I hope your first day back went ok.
Can someone explain to me what I am supposed to be writing on my routines notepad? Is it just the routine we have built up so far? ie, shine sink, get dressed, visit big tent?

bessie26 · 04/01/2011 17:50

What's "visit big tent" ?

Carrotsandcelery · 04/01/2011 17:55

It was something to do with the website bessie I haven't quite figured the website out yet though. Blush
