I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? Hi all, I shined my sink, then read the instructions and realised that the first one takes quite a long time, with all the soaking in bleach etc! Was still lovely and lean though, and all my cut glass that I'd take out for Christmas dinner was finally put away ( a week later!!!)Will do the sink properly today. Not dressed, as downstairs with DS. Will do it though!

I've signed up to the site. I remember last time I just got loads of emails and deleted most of them! May help being on here though.

JaxTellersOldLady · 03/01/2011 08:47

ok what is this 'TENT'; thing to look at? I dont understand.

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 08:49

You can sign up to the flylady website and she'll send you loads of emails a day, or you can choose to recieve one email a day.
I think the big tent thing is reading testimonials and things on her webpage.
From what I understand, big tent i like her service provider for email distribution iyswim

Just finished my 'Home blessing hour'
It is truely amazing that I can have my home looking great in one hour. Normally I have a cleaning day and it takes me around 3 hours, I do the kitchen then sit down for a few minutes, do the bathroom, sit down for a few minutes etc. But I just did not stop for the full hour and managed to finish the entire place!!! Now I have all day to chill Grin

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 10:24

That's great Micky Well done Grin
i do mine on a saturday because I normally work, so this week am trying to stick with what will be my normal routine. Which means I'm not going to do anythin around the house until 7pm ish which is pretty much what will need to happen from now on.
I plan to just do 15 min job a day in the current zone, then do evening routine and go to bed by 9pm at latest (we are up at 5am)

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 03/01/2011 10:29

Can I play please?

I need hand holding and very very very teeny tiny steps

I really want to build up a routine that becomes second nature but I dont even understand what should be done how often iyswim

and I do not want to be adomestic goddess I just want to keep it clean and relatively tidy, I'm not up for skirting boards but what should I do to be considered clean and tidy by unexpected visitors

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2011 10:48

I'm going to do my Home Blessing on a Friday, because that's my day off; also the house had a good sort-out yesterday. I think I need to do all the "back-to-school-and-work-tomorrow" admin today, so here's my list:

Shine sink (of course)
Get dressed (going for a run first )
Dig out kids uniform and sports bags
Pay school dinners
Package birthday present for neice
Tackle paperwork drawer to see if there are any unpaid bills shoved in there over Christmas
Dismantle giant"den" that has appeared in dd1's bedroom over the last few days
Visit bottle bank Blush and buy petrol before it goes up tomorrow.

Will report back......off to get into running kit.

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 11:05

Shined sink last night, then was derided by dh and accused of being a "nutter" but will battle on regardless.
Have showered and dressed today and done hair and moisturised (not a make up sort of person).
Have also taken down all the Christmas decorations, which includes two trees, a garland on the ballustrades and heaps of little bits and pieces all over the house, with the help of dd.
Hands now like sandpaper and arms covered in scratches but will not be daunted.
Is that it for today apart from shining my sink tonight?
I don't want to do house blessing while everyone is at home - seems a waste of precious time together when I will be on my own for days before long.

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 11:07

I am having the same problem as someone else mentioned trying to sign into flylady online. I get to the registration page and then it jams and won't take me further. I will have another go today.

Unwind · 03/01/2011 11:24

For now, all you need do is get dressed and shine your sink, put unwashed dishes on the floor if needs be.

It is about building up habits, to make life easier, and that happens slowly. It is actually a lot less work and stress when I don't spend half my day searching for stuff and waste energy feeling guilty.

I did half the home blessing hour earlier, before my MIL showed up. I love the 7 minute time limits it gives. Hoovering used to be the job I most hated, and it always took about an hour and a half Hmm. Doing the entire house in 7 minutes doesn't get things perfect but it does look a lot better than it did earlier - for once I did not feel very embarassed at an unexpected visit.

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 11:38

Trinity Hopefully this'll work for you, but like you say, if you don't want to do skirting boards and the like, just tweak things to suit you.
I have been posting the daily baby steps, so have a scroll up to see what we are up to.
With regards to dirty dishes (I mentioned it the other day), I cleared out the cupboard under the sink (I don't have a dishwasher) and put a big plastic box in there and that is where my washing up goes through out the day until I get round to doing it in the evening or even the following morning.
carrots My dp was the same when I firt started this last time. Just ignore it, let him carry on as normal and I'm sure the rest of the family will fall in at some point.

Unwind · 03/01/2011 12:04

I think that a lot of my problems come from my mother's favourite saying - that if something was worth doing it was worth doing well.

the flylady stuff works for me because it keeps reminding me that it is okay to just have a routine of having a quick once over of things, so stuff doesn't build up and become overwhelming.

aPixieInMyCaramelLatte · 03/01/2011 12:27

Got my cloths out of the sink this morning and put them in the machine for a rinse and spin so I now have sparkly clean White dishcloths again. Grin

Then obviously shined my sink, got dressed to shoes and then actually went into the garden to tidy up a bit. All the toddlers toys from summer Blush

Just shows what putting shoes on actually helps with because without this thread those toys probably would've been scattered all over the place until we moved. Lol.

Not doing anything else today, not much to do really. All my de-cluttering and paperwork was done at the weekend.

How's everyone getting on with the 'Home Routine' App?

I keep going back and adding/changing/deleting things and I'm really not sure what to put where and when iygwim?

Amber789 · 03/01/2011 12:53

I really like the Home Routine app. I have put in a Morning Routine and an Evening Routine so far, that I can add to as I go along. These are visible everyday. I also have added routines for each day of the week that are only visible on that day, eg my Home Blessing Hour is on Fridays. The To Do lists are also useful.

I have to admit to being a bit obsessed with it all at the moment, but I'm back to work tomorrow so it may all change!

I just really like how encouraging Flylady and all of you are!

alemci · 03/01/2011 13:06

I will try and join too. Back at work tomorrow as well. Kids obviously been off so alot of clutter around and difficult to get in routine.

have cleaned bathroom and hoovered stairs. may have a go with shining sinks.

DH and son sorting out old toys (son is 13).

Washing backlog is my problem as there seems to be so much and i can only dry a certain amount at a time. did take some upstairs but have a load of odd socks hanging around in the utility room.

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 13:19

Hi all, I don't have an iphone Sad
I'm just in the middle of cooking this weeks dinners.
I have a sausage casserole in the oven, just waiting for the mash to finish so I can put my country beef bake in. Chicken curry for tinight and I have to make a start on a chicken pie for thursday.

I have a little bag hanging on the back of my wardrobe that all odd socks get put into. I then go through them all on a sunday and pair up any that have turned up.
I've got the same system in ds's bedroom too.

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 13:47

I have gone through all of dd's toys and found homes for the new ones so her room is now back to normal after the inlux of Christmas loot.
I still have to do ds's room but it is a bit scarier tbh. I needed a wee break first. Blush
All Christmas cards off ribbons and ready to recycle now and ribbons carefully rolled and in the Christmas box.
Dh doing his ironing so I may do a bit after him if we are going to watch a film as a family.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 03/01/2011 15:12

I am pants at this. I have done other things (like pack up bits of the house) but am still in my PJs GrinBlush DH is hogging the kitchen, so no sink today yet. Sink'll be done after dinner now I guess, after the washing up. OOOO I hear the kettle going....

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 16:13

I think the sink is supposed to be done last thing in the day, after all dish using is finished Lemonade so I think you are still on track. Grin

aPixieInMyCaramelLatte · 03/01/2011 16:31

carrotsandcelery Have you thought about making next year's name tags for the presents out of the cards before you recycle?

I get a bank card/library card whatever and draw around it on the main part of the picture (sometimes you can get 2 out of one card if there's different parts of the picture you can draw around and still make it look pretty.) then cut it out and you have a piece of card the perfect size for name tags. I've got all mine for next year. Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 03/01/2011 16:40

Great idea Pixie - I was wondering about recycling them as many of them have glitter etc on them.

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2011 16:42

Oh I do that every year - quite good fun! If you have any pinking shears you don't have to worry too much about straight lines.

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 17:34

Evening all.

I've been back to bed this afternoon, was lovely!
Now I have to
Clean kitchen
shine sink
read story to boys
wipe walls in hallway
make up lunches for tomorrow

Have just laid out tomorrows clothes for everyone.

Oh and I suppose I'd better have a shower too [stinker emoticon]

Dosey · 03/01/2011 18:34

hi just to report I have done my baby steps today, dds were out for the day so managed to get tree and decs put away. Toy cupboard sorted and new toys put away. I have spent time with dds when they came home doing fun things instead of worrying about a tidy house. Back to work tomorrow so I am going to try hard to stick to the baby steps. My problem is that when I start cleaning I cant stop then I get in a bad mood because i have spent all day cleaning and the house is still a mess.

Happy flying everybody and thank you silverymoon for looking after us xxx

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2011 18:37

For those of us who are in a rush in the mornings, here is babystep 4
