I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? It took about 30min to clean the bathroom blind (venetian), thankfully I managed to find the special blind cleaning tool I got from Lakeland (it's like 3 fingers so you can clean both sides of 2 bits at the same time), and it looks so much better now I am very pleased with myself Grin
I did the skirting boards & cleaned the door while DD had her bath, cleaned the window & mirror after doing the blind, so tomorrow I just need to vacuum up the spider webs and clean the vent & floor, and that must be the whole room done? (I already gave the shower a thorough clean last week)

My hands age me terribly Sad, I don't even use particularly harsh products (all Ecover here), but I have only just started wearing rubber gloves since starting to Fly. I also have some little white cotton gloves, when my hands are really bad I totally smother them in cream and then put the gloves on before I goto sleep (DH says it's like sleeping with Michael Jackson Hmm) and that usually sorts them out.

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 22:58

I will try that thanks Bessie - I already have gloves for the shower so dh probably wouldn't even blink now.

Sounds like you have had a very productive evening. These things are strangely rewarding once you do them.

Carrotsandcelery · 22/01/2011 10:49

Today's babystep

Carrotsandcelery · 22/01/2011 10:53

Not sure about this one - anyone got any ideas what it would be?
Would it be: snack, clear snack, check homework, empty lunch bag and clean water bottles, change and set out for afterschool activities if we have them? That is my afternoon routine but it is not really related to cleaning.
How do you interpret it?

bessie26 · 22/01/2011 11:46

I think you just add another routine wherever it's best for you. Spookily, i'd already added a routine to do after DD has gone to bed (laundry, tidy toys away, wipe down table & highchair, 2min hotspot, 5min room rescue & 15min declutter) which I don't always complete, but at I do at least do some of & means there's less to do just before bed Grin

abgirl · 22/01/2011 15:58

I'm still at work in the afternoon :(

Longtalljosie · 22/01/2011 18:25

I don't know carrots, I think Flylady's stuff kicks in as well as the usual stuff - load dishwasher etc doesn't count.

That said, I do all my "routine" etc in DD's two-hour nap in the morning and in the evening confine myself to clearing up after dinner and wiping down the surfaces / shining sink. In the morning I swish and swipe the bathrooms - and that's sort of it.

Although today I had a self-made mission of cleaning the tops of the kitchen cabinets

dylsmum1998 · 22/01/2011 18:44

hmm I'm not sure what the afternoon routine would be, my housework is done in the morning/ evening depending where I am during the day.

dc are at their dads for the night, will be back in the afternoon so I have made myself a big list of jobs I need to get done whilst I am on my own.

I went upstairs to declutter in my room, thought I'd spend about 15 mins or so, but didn't take a timer. Just emerged 2 hours later Shock. I tidied the bookshelf, decluttered my crap drawer and sorted through the children's art box. I have a massive box I have been putting dc artwork into for years. I decided to stick the pics into scrap books so that its tidier. The way the room looks isn't much tidier, as what I have dne is sort drawers/boxes but I know its done Smile

dylsmum1998 · 22/01/2011 18:51

have been looking on FLY site for some hints as to what the afternoon routine should be and this is what I found;

www.flylady.net/pages/cjbs4.asp

www.flylady.net/pages/FLYingLessons_ControlJournal4.asp

so from what I understand then yes it will be things like clearing out lunch boxes carrots Smile

Carrotsandcelery · 22/01/2011 20:46

Thanks dylsmum - I think I am pretty much doing it anyway so I just need to put it on paper really [relief emoticon]
I have done very little on the declutter/hotspot front today. I need to develop different routines for the weekend. The laundry and the dishes and the meals etc get done but decluttering is not really an option.

Curlybrunette · 22/01/2011 21:57

Hi everyone,
I've only just heard about flylady but after a good bit of reading I'd like to join you. I definately have a bit of CHAOS going on, the thought of someone dropping by without warning fills me with dread. And, there is no way I could let another adult go upstairs.

It seems to start quite manageable, if I can just get into more of a routine with doing housework I'd feel so much happier. I reckon I probably do the bare minimum Blush

One thing I will never ever do though is put my shoes on first thing. I don't even wear slippers, I much prefer 'naked feet'. I'll get showered and dressed straight away but shoes, not a chance!

Carrotsandcelery · 22/01/2011 22:25

Welcome Curly - I hope there are no Lego fixations in your house Wink
It is working for me - I am having friends round for lunch on Monday. That would previously have meant at least a whole weekend's work just to have the kitchen, hallway and bathroom presentable. Now I know it will be a half hour job on Monday morning [smug emoticon]
My ds also had a friend to play who commented on how tidy his room was (they are 6 Shock) so the difference must be noticeable!
Just take it one step at a time though. Glad to have you join us.

Carrotsandcelery · 23/01/2011 09:53

baby step 24 I like this one as I have picked up the habit from previous flyers on this thread so am doing it already. Grin
I have put simple cleaning products in both bathrooms and swish and swipe them morning and night. Takes about 2 mins total in each room and means that the room is nearly always Blush free. Visitors can come in and I don't panic.

dylsmum1998 · 23/01/2011 12:19

Welcome curly, I don't wear shoes in the house (or let anyone else) either.

I was going to do so much this morning but I woke up with a throbbing head ache. so all I have managed is to put up net curtains (finally only lived here since April Blush photograph some old toys and list them on ebay and chat on the phone.

Going to go and get a shower now in the hope of clearing my head- I have a massive pile of ironing to do

Carrots I like todays babystep too, this is one of the habits I haven't lost from last time I did FLY

Curlybrunette · 23/01/2011 16:16

Hi,

I did get straight up showered and dressed this morning, and spent about an hour tidying my bedroom which was a much needed job.

Swish and swiped also which took no time, dh gave the bathroom a proper clean yesterday so actually it was pretty perfect already but made me feel good for doing it anyway.

I'm going to do the 15 minute thing when I finally get my butt off MN!

Carrotsandcelery · 23/01/2011 18:57

We have been out most of the day but when we got in we did a room rescue of the kitchen room we live in ready for my friends coming tomorrow. Otherwise just doing the basics today, swishing and shining etc.

planestrainsautomobiles · 23/01/2011 20:41

Welcome Curly - I only joined a few days ago so I'm also a fairly recent convert to FlyLady!!

Swish & Swipe - this is what I've been waiting for, kept hearing all of you talking about so will add to my morning routine and take a look at the links above for afternoon routines - thanks Dylsmum (hope your headache has cleared now)

Hope you've all enjoyed your weekends.

Next week my main aim is Ironing AND to carry on with decluttering.

dylsmum1998 · 23/01/2011 20:47

evening all thanks planes my headache has cleared now.

I have taken ds's old drawers to the dump hoovered the whole house, done the ironing , lunches are mde, clothes are out. Sinks shining so I have been watching tv and sewing for past hour or so.

Carrotsandcelery · 23/01/2011 20:59

Glad the headache has cleared dylsmum - sounds like you have been incredibly busy. Glad you mentioned lunches - I always forget on a Sunday.

bessie26 · 23/01/2011 21:14

Glad your head is better now dyls, & carrots good to hear it's been easy preparing for your visitors Smile

I'm swishing+swiping the bathroom upstairs & have asked DH to make sure the loo downstairs stays clean!

Hi curly hope you managed to drag yourself away from MN for a while? I spend far too much time on the laptop Blush

I've done bugger all today Grin it's DH's birthday so we've had a nice relaxing day until and tea at Grannie's House.

Am determined to get to bed on time tonight though, I've been knackered the last few days.

planestrainsautomobiles · 23/01/2011 21:32

Night all - off to stick to my specific bedtime Smile

Dylsmum, glad the headache has cleared and well done on your successes today.... Envy re: ironing!!

Bessie - hope you've enjoyed the break today and you had a nice day helping DH celebrate!

Carrots hope you're all ready for your friends tomorrow

JaxTellersOldLady · 24/01/2011 09:34

euch back to the daily grind again. Kids left the kitchen in a state as usual. I dont mind them making toast and having cereal, but why oh why does weetabix crumbs get everywhere?

so... kitchen surfaces wiped, laundry on, dishwasher unstacked and restacked, just got to hoover and wash floors, clean bathroom and downstairs loo.

Change DDs bed and do some ironing.

Going to get some favourite music on and get going; after Ive had a coffee and a nosy on here.

Carrotsandcelery · 24/01/2011 11:39

Monday's babystep
Today's Mission

Morning everyone.
Bessie Special occasions definitely warrant a day off Grin
Jax that is quite a list for a Monday morning! Well done you!

So far I have hoovered everywhere, including the sofas, cleaned the kitchen table and worktops, made the lunch for friend's coming, walked the dog, dealt with the dishwasher and the extra cooking dishes...and so it goes on. I have to say it is not a big deal getting sorted for visitors now the house is presentable most of the time anyway. I can actually look forward to seeing them Grin

bessie26 · 24/01/2011 13:28

Oh you are so good, I've done hardly anything from my routine yet today! This morning I took DD into town to get her feet measured and to the library to get new books, so haven't had alot of time to do much else. Am just having a cup-o-tea in the hope that it will give me the energy I need to go wash up the lunch stuff & see what's hidden under the bed! We're off to play at DDs friends once she wakes up from her nap, so also need to get tea prepped up ready for when we get home... I wish we had some biscuits in the house, I feel like I really need them today!

noeyedear · 24/01/2011 14:00

Hi all, well, instead of my 15 minute room rescue while DS was at pre school, I went for a pedicure, and then because it would take me too long to get home and then out again, I had a coffee and a scone Blush but I have done swish and swipe and made the beds!
