I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? I think the FLY lady just keeps her to-do lists in her Control Journal? I don't have one, but keep my lists in my homeroutines app.

I am failing at the going to bed on time Blush, but washing machine has just finished, so will switch the laptop off now to go do my before-bed routine.

SharonGless · 20/01/2011 22:09

Hi planes come and join us. In the control journal you do a morning and evening routine then it all starts to get a bit weird with emergency numbers and stuff in it! I think the main thing is that you adapt it to your lifestyle. I like having one email a day as I can check it at work to see what I need to be doing if I can't log in to this thread. It also keeps me focused and as she does zones every week it means that you concentrate on little bits in one room to keep on top of the house.

Silvery - how are you getting on this week?

Well done everyone I think we deserve a drink tonight ( well I do anyway!)

planestrainsautomobiles · 20/01/2011 22:48

Thank you for the warm welcome Smile So I've spent some time (a little longer than I thought !!) reading through 22 pages. Phew - 1st job done!

I was out last night and came away with a lovely goodie bag which included a swanky hardback notebook with a pencil attached to it....which is now my control journal. Feels like its meant to be Wink

So my morning routine is:

Make your bed (always do this)
Get dressed to shoes (always get dressed with hair / make-up) but will add on house shoes too.

Do Laundry
5 min room rescue

Lunchtime naps - 15 min declutter and daily mission

Evening routine:

Shine sink (I have a matt black sink so easy)
2 min hotspot
Laundry
Pick out clothes (NEED to do this!)
Stick to bedtime 11pm (REALLY NEED to do this!!)

OK need to get off now and sort evening routine prior to 11pm!! My DH is always on at me about going to bed too late as I'm always too tired.

Josey - this is the book Only had a quick read through but all seems good just need to put it into practice now.

PS Printed off certain pages and will sign up to the daily emails

planestrainsautomobiles · 20/01/2011 22:50

Sorry that should be Dosey not Josey - my brain is aching after all that reading

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 10:48

babt step 22Kelly's Mission
I have burnt my hand Sad making muffins so may struggle a bit today as it is nipping [any excuse emoticon]

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 10:49

oops - sorry about rubbish typing - useless one handed.

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 21/01/2011 11:51

Sounds like many of you are doing really well - so many shiney sinks!!

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 12:05

I have done my normal morning routine, even 15 mins in my study which is getting there. Dh is working from home, at the kitchen table, but will disappear in there when the dcs and friends come in and my friends come in. He will be in trouble if he leaves a mess.
It is finally getting to the stage where sitting and filing for an hour would be possible and make a big difference. Grin
I have organised a few more social activities next week as I have felt a bit of a saddo this week only once seeing someone in the mornings.

bessie26 · 21/01/2011 12:38

I haven't done much cleaning yet, but got tonights meal into the slow cooker by 9am, and went to a music/singing class with DD.

Plan to change our bed linen and vacuum/mop at nap time today. PIL are coming round tomorrow, but am not fretting about having to tidy the house up, which is a really nice feeling! Grin

planes hope you're not trying to catch up too quickly? Remember to take baby steps!

carrots hope your hand isn't too bad? Suggest you sit down with a cup-o-tea & eat some of those muffins! :-)

twinterror · 21/01/2011 12:38

AAghghgh

I am finding it impossible to keep up! In the last week I haven't done any of it except shining the sink, (although the hot spots I had cleared have not come back and the house is clean and tidy) - I find with work and all the other usual things I don't get time. Anyone else having the same problem? Even on non work days by the time I've done the usual daily chores I don't seem to get to any of the fly lady tasks. But then again I do go out a lot!

bessie26 · 21/01/2011 12:51

twin your sink is shiny, you've got rid of your hotspots, your house is clean & tidy AND you have a social life? I don't know what you are doing, but I'd carry on if I were you, it seems to be working really well! Grin

twinterror · 21/01/2011 12:59

Bessie - thanks for that I feel better now. We've had people to stay so 'fly lady' time has been spent changing beds etc. Today I am going to do a hotspot, 15 mins declutter, 5 mins room rescue and just try to keep that going for a week (unlikely - I have more people coming to stay!)before I move on to any more steps.

I find the daily laundry/admin/getting everything ready for the following day/normal tidy up does not leave a lot of time for additional things and on day off it was swimming lessons and dentist for dcs then I was going out in the evening. Hey ho I am not living in a midden so maybe I should relax a bit more!

Well done to all those who have managed to crack on with it though - am in full respect of you all!

SharonGless · 21/01/2011 13:35

Twinterror I think you are doing really well if you have people to stay and you are keeping on top of things. You can't expect to do extra work and look after other people plus doing missions! If you can keep your hotspot tidy and keep on top of the daily stuff I would be happy with that!

So far have made all the beds, swished and swiped, put dishwasher on, stuck a load on and hoovered the whole house. Internet shopping is on its way so going to wipe inside fridge before I put it away.

Am about to start on bathroom cabinet declutter. Wish me luck!

planestrainsautomobiles · 21/01/2011 14:45

Oooh I like today's babystep - I can see it from here.

I've followed my new morning routine and put on all linen to wash. Been out to sing and sign class with DS2 and done pre-school drop-off / pick-up runs for DS1.

Now I'm going to do my 15 min declutter. Also got the home routines app which has a stopclock on it which is very handy.

Good Luck Sharon with the bathroom cabinet declutter - I really need to do that!
Bessie - babysteps it is - don't want FlyLady burn-out Grin

SharonGless · 21/01/2011 14:56

Right have done all bathroom cabinet bar DH shelf and he can do that tonight. Have thrown out anything that is past its expiry date or haven't used for a year. Got rid of loads!

Am going to declutter my makeup box too tonight.

Can I ask is anyone else's toilet cleaner than their fridge? OMG my loo is sparkling thanks to swish and swipe every day but the fridge was a bit grim. Have cleared it all out after the shopping delivered so not putting new stuff on top of old.

DD full of cold so not wanting to do much hence the reason for all the decluttering

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 15:07

You are on a roll Sharon - it is very satisfying when you are in the right mood.
My loo is definitely more fit for public inspection than my fridge. I did the fridge cleaning mission whenever that came up but it doesn't take long for it to become a bit suspect.
Planes my kitchen timer currently lives on my study door handle as that is my massive hot spot that I have been decluttering since we began this thread Blush Knowing you only have to do 15 mins is a real motivator though.
Twin you are incredible. I struggle when I have visitors. Just feeding them is a full time job.
I'm off to collect lots of children now, who will hopefully eat all the muffins but not wreck the house completely!

bessie26 · 21/01/2011 17:46

I wipe my fridge out & check for out of date stuff when DH is at the supermarket, so mine's not too bad. Could probably do with a spray of dettox though!

My mum popped round this arvo, she "wasn't staying", so didn't want to sit down & have a cup of tea, but instead stood talking in the hall for half an hour when I should have been getting on! Got downstairs vacuumed, utility & kitchen mopped, and DD "helped" me change the bedclothes, so I got everything I had to done, but I really wanted to do some of this week's bathroom missions too. Oh well, will have to try again tomorrow!

bessie26 · 21/01/2011 18:47

Oh bugger, I made the mistake of wiping a bit of my bathroom blind during DDs bath, I now have one very clean bit which shows how disgustingly dirty the rest of it is - any tips? Is it worththe effort of taking it down toclean it?

planestrainsautomobiles · 21/01/2011 20:27

Decluttered 6 of the 8 drawers / shelves in our living room cabinet - a hotspot! Have a couple of bags to take to the charity shop full of DVDs and books. Plus a recycling box full of magazines. Kitchen cupboards and my wardrobe are next on the list.

I'll start the daily missions next week - just trying to keep up with the daily routines.

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 20:42

bessie what sort of blind is it?

planes you are off to a flying start.

I got all the ironing done (even dh's), a wash on, the dishwasher emptied and filled again, did a 30 min room rescue on ds room after his playdate and have now flopped on sofa until bed time.

It has definitely helped me to do small piles of ironing throughout the week rather than leaving it until it is a whole week's.

I managed to injure the same hand that I burnt playing with the dog. My hands are red raw with all this swishing and swiping. Is anyone else suffering the same side effect?

SharonGless · 21/01/2011 21:15

Wow everyone is really into it now.
Next project is bedroom drawers. Mine are an absolute disgrace.

You are right about the fridge though it doesn't take long for it to be disgusting. Especially when DH seems unable to wipe up mess in the fridge. He is very good at doing the bits that he sees and hoovering.

Carrots - what product are you using when swishing and swiping? One of my new years resolutions was to use hand cream every day which I have stuck too and haven't noticed any side effents of the extra cleaing

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 21:22

I am using dettox spray and kitchen roll and anti bac wipes to swish and swipe Sharon.
I have stuck a tube of Body Shop Hemp handcream in the kitchen so that I can use it every now and then throughout the day. Hopefully that will help.

Dosey · 21/01/2011 21:42

hi everybody, Carrots when we started the babysteps I made a little routine that after I shine my sink, I put a load of handcream on. I keep some on the window sill. It helps with all this cleaning Smile.

Not such a bad day, 15 minutes decluttering my tv cabinet found lots of old dvds and even some classic videos!!!! Done todays mission, washed and wiped the skirting boards in the downstairs toilet. Got a wash on, tomorrows clothes are out and swimming bags packed and I intend on having an early night.

Do we have a mission tomorrow or do we get weekends off? I do hope so.

Silvery you do have a long day, time with the kids is much more important than any amount of sink shining so dont beat yourself up if you dont get much done xxx

Carrotsandcelery · 21/01/2011 21:57

Hi Dosey thanks for the tip. Have you heard from Silvery? I couldn't really do today's mission as we have no skirting boards in the bathrooms Grin
I struggle with more than the basic routine at the weekend so I hope there is no mission. I think it is just Monday to Friday though.

Longtalljosie · 21/01/2011 22:10

Yes - my hands are 20 years older than the rest of me!
