carrots my toaster has a little slider on the bottom I can open to let all the crumbs out... other than that I just shake/bash it outside or over the sink until I get bored!

dyls I really want to sort out a 4 week menu plan too, but just haven't got round to it yet. I have been keeping all my old weekly ones, and am in the process of collating a spreadsheet full of ideas & a word doc full of my most used recipes... Am going to have to add this to my todo list now'

Longtalljosie · 13/01/2011 23:26

Ok I've been rubbish today. Tomorrow I will start again

Longtalljosie · 14/01/2011 11:26

Baby step 15 - make your bed. Done already!

Haribojoe · 14/01/2011 13:17

Thanks ladies, have registered on the website, so does this mean I start getting the steps e-mailed to me?

The good news is that I've just had a new kitchen fitted with an easy to keep clean sink AND since having DS3 in Sept I have made myself get dressed and put on make up before starting the day everyday!

It's good already Grin

Dosey · 14/01/2011 15:32

hi everybody, loving todays babystep, dp is the lazy bones in the house last one up everyday so he makes the bed. So far today I have only managed to keep the sink clean, will do a 15 minute declutter and a hot spot after tea. Though my hot spots have dwingled lots since starting the babysteps Smile.

Carrotsandcelery · 14/01/2011 18:02

Evening everyone. I have been out all day so I am waaaaaay behind today. I also have a very sore shoulder Sad due to the window cleaning yesterday but it won't affect the hot spotting etc. Smile
Anyone seen Silvery lately - she seems to have vanished.

Longtalljosie · 14/01/2011 18:51

Can you talk me through what you guys are doing with your hotspots? Are you tidying them every day?

I'm loving how sorting out an area which used to make me feel annoyed with myself gives me such a buzz. There are shelves in my kitchen which I emptied, cleaned and put the stuff back today - have been meaning to do that for ages.

Also loving the putting everything that's not supposed to be in that room in a box. Makes it much simpler and more thorough!

bessie26 · 14/01/2011 20:02

celery the last I heard of silvery she was watching "one born every minute"!

long my hot spots are:

  • by the front door (where we dump the post)
  • the bathroom windowsill (where any bathroom related recycling gets left)
  • 2 in my bedroom - on top of the chest of drawers (all "upstairs" recycling ends up here), and my dressing table (where anything gets left)
  • and another 2 in the kitchen - the corner by the sink (where recycling that needs cleaning ends up before it finally makes it into the bin), and another corner which collects a variety of things

it wasn't until I wrote all that down that I realised how much recycling I'm moving round the house - a dirty shampoo bottle could end up in 3 different hotspots on it's way to the blue bin! Shock - what do you guys do with yours?

anyway, I can easily spend my 2 minutes moving the recycling downstairs, so I do try to that every day, and am making a start on clearing my dressing table too

Carrotsandcelery · 14/01/2011 20:30

I have spent a lot of time this week dealing with recycling too. We have bins built into a drawer in our kitchen but dh has been working late all week (until after 11 so I am not asking him to do anything) and I am not strong enough, with aforementioned dodgy shoulder problem, to lift the bins out of the drawer and take them outside. This means the bins are full and now all our recycling is being put in bags and taken outside evertime we go out to the rabbits. It is causing a lot of clutter.
My big hot spots are the end of the sideboard where the post is left, the kitchen table where everything gets left and the desk in the kitchen where all the stuff from the table gets dumped when we go to eat a meal. I spend a lot of time moving my hotspot from one place to another really. Once the study is sorted properly this will be less likely to happen though so there is definitely an end in sight.
I haven't seen Silvery since "One born..." either Hmm

bessie26 · 14/01/2011 20:44

"Once the study is sorted" ? how many 15min de-cluttering sessions is that going to take? Wink

Dosey · 14/01/2011 21:34

my hot spots are at the bottom of the stairs where everything gets dumped when we come home from school or shopping. The dinning room table where newspapers and post gets dumped is also a burning spot. I have just decluttered the airing cupboard. Every time I open that cupboard I look with despair at the state its in. I would close the door and pretend it wasnt there. Anyway tonight I set my timer and made a start. It only took nine minutes and it looks fab. Why have not sorted this mess before, I mean nine minutes!!!! I am so proud. I even came across dd1 and dd2s first swimming costumes, they are so cute and tiny, I have put them in my bedsit cabinet, another place that needs a declutter!

dylsmum1998 · 14/01/2011 22:07

evening all. Crap at this today, have managed to defrost freezer and bought a basket to tidy the kitchen unit off. Am also working my way through clearing up the christmas chocolates hotspots.

Carrots how is the study coming along?

I really need to sort out and get back on top of the routines this weekend. however sat mornings are taken up by swimming lessons. its my nephews birthday party tomorrow afternoon and I need to get the clutch fixed on the car hopefully tomorrow. So we shall see Hmm

Carrotsandcelery · 14/01/2011 22:33

There is a 2ft square patch of carpet now visible in the study and I can now reach the filing cabinet - that is how the study is coming along Blush Grin. I was not exaggerating when I said it would take about a month of 15min declutters Blush
I have been rubbish today but I will shine my sink tonight so all is not lost - and I have had a LOVELY day, topped off perfectly by dh presenting me with and unexpected bunch of flowers Shock

bessie26 · 14/01/2011 23:15

well done for finding the carpet carrots! Grin - I think my DH has forgotten where bunches of flowers come from Hmm

abgirl · 15/01/2011 08:18

Keep going carrots.

I missed my 15 minute declutter yesterday, after a week of working extremely hard the wine was callingBlush but I did shine my sink and clean the kitchen floor so not feeling too guilty. Am off to get dressed, do all my flylady stuff (apart from sink shining), and will then have the rest of the day free for playing with DSs - starting with a pancake breakfast!

HOpe you all have a nice weekend...

CointreauVersial · 15/01/2011 17:16

Hello all.

Yesterday's babystep was a breeze for me, because making the bed is DH's job (and he's normally pretty good). Is there one for today?

I did yesterday's Home Blessing, in little chunks between my morning jog, a smear test, a haircut, shopping, two school runs and a swimming lesson (phew!).

I also had a good go at the bathrooms which have been rather neglected recently. I have also put a pack of wipes in each one and will be teaching the DCs how to do their own swishing and swiping whenever they have been spraying and skidding Hmm.

abgirl · 15/01/2011 19:52

Cointreau today's baby step is to read the fly lady email - depends on whether you subscribe or not I guess, but an easy one whatever...

CointreauVersial · 15/01/2011 21:09

Oh bugger that, I'm too busy drinking cleaning to read stuff Grin

bessie26 · 15/01/2011 21:27

Can someone who subscribes read it for me? I've been busy making cheesecake Grin

Guacamole · 15/01/2011 21:49

All of my hotspots are done... Well kind of, in completing the dining table hotspot I have shifted a lot of stuff to the office desk, thus creating a brand new hotspot. That's not how it's supposed to work! :(
What else am I supposed to have done today are we up to babystep 16?

Guacamole · 15/01/2011 21:50

Oh I've just read your posts... I don't subscribe, so shan't be reading the flylady email!

abgirl · 16/01/2011 10:05

OK, today's babystep is to set a specific bedtime and stick to it, I'm going to try 10 on schooldays and 11 on Fridays, Saturdays and in the holidaysGrin, we are early risers in this house and going to bed earlier in the week would definitely help.

CointreauVersial · 16/01/2011 13:35

Oooh, that's the toughest babystep yet! I'm rubbish at going to bed on time, and can often be found faffing about on MN in the wee small hours.

Carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2011 15:48

Hello everyone - I really struggle with this at the weekends. The bathrooms get swished and the sink gets shined but declutters, hot spots etc are a bit tricky unless we all get involved.
I will struggle with the bedtime task too - I know in myself if I have any chance of getting to sleep or not and if I go too early I will be up all night. I think I will adapt it to listening to my body and going when I know I should sleep rather than setting a specific time.
All that said the dcs did a 15min declutter of the kitchen table today, as we had been doing a lot of craft stuff and dd also did a major tiy up of the desk in the kitchen so we are getting places.
We have been baking, cooking, dancing on the Wii, doing a massive, table sized picture together as a family, painting, making a castle and now we are playing cafes etc so I think I can excuse myself today as we haven't been together as a family all week Grin
I will do a wash and a hot spot tonight though - promise!

Carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2011 16:42

Just managed to sneak Kelly's kitchen cupboard front cleaning mission as part of the cafe game - everyone had to help! Grin
