I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? I've not tried this flying thing before but have heard of it and think it sounds like a good idea. I am a sahm with a 3 yr dd and 10 month ds. I like the idea of routine when it comes to looking after the house but am no good at it! Just been talking to dh about the idea of trying flylady as a New Year resolution. I just don't know though - will I have the time to read through the website, work out what I'm supposed to be doing, let alone actually stick to it? Hard to stick to routine when little ones tend to disrupt any ideas about how my day might go! Any idea, lemonadedrinker, whether flying is possible with two little kids around? And good luck to you with your endeavours!

MyDingaling · 29/12/2010 20:31

Yes I am up for it.
Tried Flylady on and off and the house is definitely better when on it!!

APixieInMyMulledWine · 29/12/2010 21:49

Will we be starting with baby steps or jumping in at the deep end?

Either way, I'm in. Just sorted out my "diary" on the iPad so I can keep notes, routines, dates etc.

Must change my name ready for the new year. Any idea's?

wannabesybil · 29/12/2010 22:42

I am a newbie (ish) and while I have seen lots of these type threads in lots of places I have always been scared of them.

However house is a disaster, OH is having fits, father moving in with us, need to do something.

Is it okay if I join but only do what I can?

woofie · 29/12/2010 23:03

Yep, I'm in need of a method to get stay on top of the house, especially as I'm going back to work p/t in January. I've never been good at sticking to routines for any length of time, but I've skimmed through the flylady website and am hopeful it might help give me the much needed kick up the arse. Plus, I love lists...

YourCallIsImportant · 29/12/2010 23:20

Yep, I'm in. I like Flylady and need to keep on top of things and get a system in place. Need to do a big declutter too, starting tomorrow.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 30/12/2010 01:04

Zulu - I ahve 3 DSs 4 & under, I find FLYlady the easiest with kids! I was thinking we should start with the babysteps, get ourselves into the swing of a routine. :)

Mbear · 30/12/2010 01:13

Oooh, I just googled it, and I would def like to try and be in!

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 30/12/2010 01:16

Day 1 is just shining your sink (sneaky though because to do this you have to do all the washing up Grin) - we will do that on the 1st, until then try and de-clutter a little so it's a little easier to start :) I oven -prided my oven tonight (though now can't be arsed to wipe it all out HmmBlush) A few days in you have to get dressed with house shoes (or slippers) so might be an idea to have that in mind now incase (like me) you have to go out and buy some. It really does help ! :)

Sounds good.

I'm gonna have a bit of a clear up today too. Have a few bags to take to charity shop so will get them out the way and make sure dishes are done straight after dinner so I can shine my sink.

I already have a pretty good housework routine loosely based on flylady but sometimes it all gets a bit much and things start sliding especially with 2 kids under 2.

Need something to give me a kick up the backside. Grin

zulubump · 30/12/2010 08:46

OK, I will give it a go. I've had a look at the site before - do I need to join flylady and get all the emails in order to do this? I might need some help understanding what I'm supposed to be doing - have looked at babysteps and don't get some of them eg "write these things down" - write what down? Do I need to get a control journal? Sorry, must be a bit thick when it comes to flying!

Guacamohohohole · 30/12/2010 09:43

If you have an iPhone there's an app called 'homeroutine' which is very much flylady based and is customisable.

APixieInMyMulledWine · 30/12/2010 10:06

Lol, I have that app. I put it on my ipad.

Looking good so far.

Dp is just off to the charity shop with bags woo hoo.

TeenageWildlife · 30/12/2010 10:09

probably - its been 5 years and the clutter is back.

dylsmum1998 · 30/12/2010 20:13

Hi can I join- am on one of teh oldflylady threads, but have lapsed and could do with a kick up bum to get going again. I will try to join in from 1st but have family here til 4th so may take off properly then Smile

TheFeministParent · 30/12/2010 20:16

Okay I'll join, my DM has been here for over a month and she's motivation evil bitch queen. So I'm going it alone 1/1/11

YourCallIsImportant · 30/12/2010 20:24

I've just downloaded HomeRoutines, just about to set it up.

detachandtrustyourself · 30/12/2010 20:35

I would like to join. Been partly doing for about 6 months.
I like the way flylady encourages you so kindly and gently. btw she tells you to take your pots out of the sink. You don't have to wash them first. The first step is shining your sink. I like the way you build routines in babysteps until they become automatic.

I think it works as people have noticed the change in the house.

Carrotsandcelery · 30/12/2010 20:41

How does this Flylady thing work - I have no idea what everyone is talking about but I am very interested in anything that will help us! Xmas Blush

APixieInMyMulledWine · 31/12/2010 07:06

Basically it's a way of keeping on top of your housework, one simple step at a time. You keep adding to the steps day by day until you have a routine that you automatically do without thinking about it.

I like it for the pure fact that once your fully into it, you're not actually doing that much housework each day, which means I have a clean and organised home but still have time to play with the kids etc.

Has everyone prepared?

All the bags have gone to the charity shop now, even though I've persuaded dp to go through his clothes so we will have more today. I'm going to make sure the dishes are done so in the morning I have a nice clear sink to shine. Grin

I'm sure there's loads more stuff we can get rid of though so looking forward to decluttering.

FoJo · 31/12/2010 07:31

have never heard of this, the good housekeeping thread is about the only one i've never looked at as I reckon I'm beyond redemption! ANyway have just looked at the website, clicked ont he getting started bit and it keeps 'jamming', have turned computer on and off a couple of times and it wont let me get past that page. Do others have this problem? Do I need to sign up? Is it free?

detachandtrustyourself · 31/12/2010 09:32

yes, it is free.

SilveryMoon · 31/12/2010 09:39

Hello!
Can I join please??
I was an avid flyer, did really well, but then got a job and it all went to pot!
I need to start again. Well, I have already made a start. I bought a new ringbinder and have made a start on a new control journal.
So far, I am working on befor bed shining sink, laying tomorrows clothes out and hotspot.
Morning routine, swish and swipe, make beds, 5 min room rescue.
I have made a start allocating jobs to days within current zones and plan to spend 10/15 mins doing those when I get in from work.
Home blessing has to be a saturday here.
AQlthough I am doing a load of washing a day, I am struggling with ironing, but am hoping to do that on a sunday 9after kids are in bed)

I leave for work at 6:15am and don't get home until 17:30/17:45, so is a long day, but I still want to spend at least half hour a day with the kids before they go to bed which is at 7pm (not including bath time)

So, that's me.
Just need a kick up the arse

SilveryMoon · 31/12/2010 09:45
