@caringcarer that's worse, in my opinion. Too dark and chunky.

I’m guessing it’s their table they’re trying to sell. That’s also a very dated look which is why it’s being sold I guess!

ShinyBandana · 11/02/2024 17:54

My opinion, FWIW, is that you can work with this. You need to make it look like a definite room. At the moment it’s a confusing mix of conservatory and dining room. As you’ve already gone for carpet then commit to Dining Room. I’d suggest curtains round all the windows, some tall plants and a wooden dresser/unit or even occasional tables but this room needs wood and natural colours. Curtains should be green (that would work with the pink walls and also the grey).

I'll just sit in my horrendous chavvy room at my cold dining table thinking of the thousands we've wasted on it and cry now ladies 🤦🏼‍♀️

What are you planning to use the room for? Honestly, it's your home,* *there for you and your family to enjoy, hang out in, have friends in etc. Do you have children?

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 17:57

@Sittingtoolong yes 2 young kids. It's for DH to work at, eldest dc to do his Lego etc and eating. There's a tv in there too

No one can see your home. It’s just the dining room, folks are just advising how to make it look better, as you asked.

dingledangledinkledoo · 11/02/2024 17:59

I'm all into maximalism and love my furnishings to be a bit extra but this just screams "R u ok (diamanté crush velvet) Hun? I think it's the fact that the typical sort of people that have these sets are sat in grey living rooms, in grey houses, and the only personality they seem to be able to show is in which fabulosa scent they like from Home Bargains and which style of hoover/dyson lines they have on their carpet. It's a rather prescriptive Home decorating style that alters depending on whichever indigenes is "in" at the time and can be updated every 6- 12 months. but its never what they like, just whats fashionable which is sad .

i would definitely look at a table cloth or large runner to break up the colourlessness.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/02/2024 17:59

I definitely wouldn't choose that table or chairs, but if you change that rug, which really is hideous, (I'm sorry), it would help a LOT.

Start with a new rug.

No, just choose a runner that YOU love, plus some beautiful table mats and a candle centrepiece and enjoy it. It is YOUR Home.

Then it's perfect. Comfortable and roomy.

Which I appreciate.. but a vomiting face or saying it looks like a travellers/council home isn't constructive criticism it's just hurtful 😢

Does he run company boardroom meetings from it? 🤔

Pop a tablecloth on it. That will help. x

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 18:02

No, a large number are just being rude for the sake of it. Almost as if they are trying to outdo other posters on the rudeness scale.

Agree, just ignore it, guarantee your home is better than theirs. 💐

BlueGrey1 · 11/02/2024 18:05

It’s really not that bad, it kinda suits the room, if you changed it then you would probably have to change the rest of the decor, enjoy your new conservatory

Aquamarine1029 · 11/02/2024 18:05

What if you had a new wooden base made for the marble top? That could be really pretty.

TerroristToddler · 11/02/2024 18:07

Yes it's not to my taste at all. Is it mirrored on the legs? I'd send it back. Nothing will make it look better!

I can't stand the bling look and it now very dated. The carpet and brushed velvet look in grey makes my eyes hurt!

But each to their own. You'd probably dislike my home interiors too as we just have different styles!

BlueGrey1 · 11/02/2024 18:07

Agree, there are some really nasty people on this site

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 11/02/2024 18:16

the Table & chairs are not to my taste, but I think it’s the carpet that’s wrong.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/02/2024 18:17

Maybe it's not ideal, but it will be a great table for your kids to study and play at. Honestly, changing the rug would help enormously. An off white/cream rug in a more traditional design, with a bit of light pink to bring in the colour from the walls, would be lovely.

Please tell me it was free at least?

so there’s a lot going on in this room and it’s all a bit depressing. First, what’s the obsession with all the grey? Is that rug necessary, because that thing is not adding to your room. You need some wood in there. The table and chairs combo are overkill. You could replace the chairs with nice wooden ones and it would help balance that table out. A nice area rug would also help!

and get some nice, large green plants in that space!

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 18:22

It was £1,300 for the table and chairs

BoobyDazzler · 11/02/2024 18:22

Doesn’t do it for me, but my own dining table is covered in cup rings and marks from craft things so I couldn’t possibly judge.

Lots of people like that aesthetic.
