@zump Yes it's real marble, ridiculously heavy 😢 a pink runner is a brilliant idea, I'll have a look. I am honestly thinking of buying another table and DH is really upset

Don't bin it, get a local joiner to knock up a wooden frame/ legs like the Covet Noir pic. Replace the awful chairs. Get rid of the carpet. Paint the walls off-white.

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 18:22

Does anyone know how likely marble stains/wears?

I think the table would be fine with subtler chairs

Sidebeforeself · 11/02/2024 18:23

Aw I was just trying to make the OP laugh not be nasty. Apologies OP if my comment upset you

This may be true, but with the op having young kids, I personally wouldn't bother for a few years at least. Let the kids wear them out and then replace everything.

HardcoreLadyType · 11/02/2024 18:27

My first thought was that the chairs look wrong with the table. It’s so OTT, it needs something elegant but plain.

localnotail · 11/02/2024 18:27

I don't think its that bad, kitschy but, well, unusual?

I really dislike the chairs though, they don't go with the table and are impractical for the dinner table.

Nosleepforthismum · 11/02/2024 18:28

Oh ignore some of the nasty posters on this thread. I’d like to think I’m pretty good at home decorating/renovating now (on our fifth property) but I’ve made loads of choices where it looks great in my head but the reality is a bit different. Remember, this is your home and not some interior design contest so as long as you like it that’s all that matters!

The only thing you’ve done is possibly tried to match too many things in the room and it now looks a bit much all together. I think the suggestions from PP’s about replacing the table legs with some cool chunky wooden ones is a great shout. However, I’ve always found that I’ve ended up loving the stuff in my house that I initially hated so I give it a week or so and you might find you’ll come round 🙂

It stains fairly easily especially things like tomato sauce, blackcurrant juice, red wine and lemon juice will mark it (SIL had marble worktops in same colour 🫣)

Bit blingy?

It was £1,300 for the table and chairs

Does the rug come in a different color? I saw you wrote that it is glittery and that you like it.

The rug does look soft, which is important. but maybe a different color. Like I said, an exotic upright (like bird of paradise) plant could be a good distraction until you change some elements.

you could also remove that plastic candle looking holder and maybe put a beautiful wood bowl to help balance all that stone.

Differentstarts · 11/02/2024 18:35

I really like it and I don't see what's wrong with carpet in a conservatory we live in the UK it's cold 90% of the time

Aroundthewaygirl · 11/02/2024 18:36

If the legs/support parts had been made out of a medium dark wood I would love it.

EndoEnd · 11/02/2024 18:36

Awful

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 18:00

Which I appreciate.. but a vomiting face or saying it looks like a travellers/council home isn't constructive criticism it's just hurtful 😢

I agree. And as a traveller myself it's also racist. No one would say that looks like a black/asian/person's house etc

Getthethrowonthesofa · 11/02/2024 18:36

Op, don’t be returning the table , building a new frame, buying new chairs, some folks think money grows on trees,

just finish the room, blinds, plants, a centre piece and it will be fine.

GotMooMilk · 11/02/2024 18:37

It’s not my style OP but it all goes together. I think the things you’ve posted to go on top would actually make it look worse tbh and you’d end up moving them constantly.

Imtiredthisyear · 11/02/2024 18:38

I can’t say It my taste, but it’s your home! As you seem to dislike it I would recommend doing a little diy on it. It’s the table legs that are making it a little more “intense”.

Try using rub and buff on the legs, maybe “silver leaf”, that will tone it down. It’s supposed to be really durable.

This table is awful isn't it..?

Some nasty comments on here I'd love to see some of your homes

SpidersAreShitheads · 11/02/2024 18:39

It’s not my style at all and I don’t like grey interiors - but I think that opinion has been well-covered by PP 😂😂

While I agree wooden chairs might look better, they won’t be very comfy for sitting for long periods.

If the OP’s DH will be sitting at the table for work and DC using it for Lego then a comfy chair is more important than the aesthetics. Of course we all like things that look good but not if it means sacrificing actual comfort. Those chairs may miss the mark aesthetically but I’ve sat on similar and they are bloody comfy!

I’m currently looking for a new dining table and chairs and it’s actually really hard to find one that looks good and is also comfortable. I’m looking for a more rustic style so the direct opposite of OP’s style, but having similar difficulty balancing practicality and good looks!

Ketzele · 11/02/2024 18:40

I think the table could be fine if it was the star of the show. As it is, it's competing against the chair and the carpet. Honestly, I think replacing the carpet might be your best bet. With sisal, perhaps? Then add some beautiful raw wood somewhere in the room and s load of houseplants.

chopc · 11/02/2024 18:40

I like it

This is a good idea. Would be cheaper to replace the carpet than the table and that would totally transform the room.

It wears well.

RootVegAndMash · 11/02/2024 18:41

The more I look at it the more I think the table is actually fine. It's the combination of chairs and matchy carpet that's too much.

In your shoes op (as you said you like the carpet) I'd just change the chairs to something much simpler (and not fabric or grey). You could sell just the 6 x chairs and buy new ones.
