Absolutely hideous.... goes well with the rest of the room.

lemonyfox · 11/02/2024 18:44

The carpets worse

Naptrappedmummy · 11/02/2024 18:45

Yikes, I’m sorry but as you asked that’s chavtastic! (As the daily mail used to say in 2005)

kittensinthekitchen · 11/02/2024 18:47

This thread perfectly embodies the true spirit of Mumsnet.

Warms the heart, it does.

HardcoreLadyType · 11/02/2024 18:47

These, maybe, would work. They’re from IKEA.

OK so the new table is much nicer than the old one. So you haven't done badly, you just haven't styled the room for the new table yet. I honestly think either the table or the carpet need to go because they're such a clash of styles.

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 18:53

This is old table, with and without cloth obviously

I would’ve put down some good quality LVT in light oak or a natural coloured carpet. Left the oak table as is, added a mid century armchair at the other end with a small table and a large potted plant.

diddl · 11/02/2024 18:53

I like the old table but I think the new one goes much better!

Olliequick · 11/02/2024 18:53

I don’t get the hate. It doesn’t look awful at all. I would love to see the houses of all the people saying it looks terrible

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 18:54

The old table was a Facebook marketplace £30 job with chairs we were given. We've only recently been able to afford anything new.

I would think about adding colour to the room.

the table isn’t my personal taste, but if the room had some character embedded it wouldn’t all look so monochrome.

get a vase in your colour scheme, or some candle holders and decorate the top. Add your runner you mentioned.

Could you add a rug into the room and place the table over it and chairs around it.

It could look so much better if it wasn’t all so Grey and white. And as a PP said. You’re going to eat at it. Once you have place settings and people around it’s not the table anyone will care about. It’s the conversation and the food.

Naptrappedmummy · 11/02/2024 18:57

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 18:22

It was £1,300 for the table and chairs

Shit was it really?? Just sell them or try to return if not used, cut your losses and use the leftover cash to buy something you do like, second hand or otherwise.

pictoosh · 11/02/2024 18:59

This is not directed at the OP in particular...but how is it that people don't understand that if you put a lot of grey into a room in Britain it's going to look rather dismal for much of the time?

Soft greys do well in the south of France, say, where they have sunshine to counteract the muted grey tones which in turn, are not as blinding as white tones. It works.
In an average British home the grey simply reflects and extends the overcast weather outside. Bringing the uninspiring outdoors, indoors. It's not classy, it's drab.

Worst interior fad ever.

Badburyrings · 11/02/2024 18:59

The table is not good, however the carpet is far far far worse. If you had the right flooring and better chairs that table wouldn't look quite so bad. The table is not just the problem. I am not sure what would work with a carpet in a conservatory. sorry

Chewbecca · 11/02/2024 19:00

I live in Essex and there are plenty of rooms done in just that style so it's a popular look. I say live with it for a while and see if it grows on you. I like the marble.

TerriPie · 11/02/2024 19:00

Sorry OP, I think it's awful too. Looks like something from a Pastry Chefs kitchen.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 11/02/2024 19:00

Awww, honestly, everyone likes different stuff, it's not the end of the world. Personally, the carpet and chairs are way bigger turn offs than the table. although I'd prefer the legs to be gold - they look mirrored? Anyway, what are the floor tiles like? Maybe tiles, a Berber rug and stripped white/light wood chairs would look better? A bit Graham and Greeny? How much was the table vs the chairs and then those vs the carpet?

I wasn't meaning to have a pop at the old table - I just meant that you have chosen a new one that is much nicer.

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 19:01

The carpet was £600 and fitted just before Christmas 😢🤦🏼‍♀️ see why I could cry. I always try and fail.
