Help me not hate my new kitchen!!!! (+photos)

Ok - my kitchen (which is supposed to be a delicate, cool grey) has just been installed in our new build.

Bear in mind there are no lights yet and the 2 side windows are covered in blue protective film. Finally the white carrara worktop has not yet been installed which will hopefully give it a lift.

However, I can't help feeling it just looks drab!! Please can you help reassure me that it will look a lot better when finished? I can't decide what paint colour to go with either so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm starting to panic!
Thanks

P.S 100% aware that this is a complete FWP.

I have a birch and white kitchen with oak flooring and we have F&B Shadow White on the walls. It's definitely a colour, but v serene and easy to live with, the whole effect is kind of warm Scandi. What direction do your windows face? Ours are westerly and the paint looks greenish for most of the day.

You could try F&B Railings, art work looks lovely against it, as does an oak floor.

VaseOfWhiteRoses · 05/07/2018 08:15

It's lovely OP.

We have similar worktops, dark oak flooring, but white inframe units with handles.

Walls are painted white, no intention of adding pops of colour, it looks fabulous.

Keep it simple, it will look more classy and expensive if you do.

Laughing at the stunt pineapple GrinGrinGrin

Builder was on again looking for paint colours, so had to just pick the one I had originally chosen. It's a very pale grey with a green undertone (LG Ceviche). I just don't have the time to overthink it like I usually do Grin. I'm actually thinking an olive green wall down near the lounge could look well.

Anyway really really appreciate the supportive comments. We should have electricity in a week so will keep ye posted (if you want!) with progress pics!

These are the stools I was thinking of, what you think? In tan.....

Would love to see more progress pics. I wish I'd taken more when we had our kitchen done.

The only problem I have with stools is the sticking out back legs. I always think they stick out and trip ppl up, but that's probably only me!

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 05/07/2018 13:36

Stoat we have a large slider facing west, and the 2 side windows are south. Then we have the massive skylight. So we're lucky!

I really like it!! Looks smart and fresh. When it's finished you can make it feel more homely.
But I like it!

ReservoirDogs · 05/07/2018 14:29

PMd you

AtreidesFreeWoman · 05/07/2018 14:36

I love the bar stools :-)

Honestly, keep holding your nerve.

It will all come together.

My DH was having a go about our kitchen refurb saying it looked like a hollowed out sugar cube when it was at a similar stage.

However, with a modern walnut table, chairs (with steel legs) all the appliances, pictures etc he now concedes I was right!

Don't underestimate how much colour and warmth you can bring into a kitchen with simple accessories.

Bellends · 05/07/2018 14:55

I'd stick to white on the walls. That way, the unit colour will come into its own and not look bland. Also maybe bring a warm metal in to accessorise. We have Carrara and it's very cold toned, we have dark warm units to balance it but I think the warm metal would get over that fact. Carrara looks stunning with copper.
Some ideas...

I don't know if this will help you when you are thinking about introducing colour. Our kitchen is 10 years old now but we went for a similar streamlined, simple look in the kitchen but used colour in the soft furnishings and artwork. Excuse the mess!

That's a lovely and warm room tattie, hasn't dated at all in 10 years either! Particularly love the green sofa :)

Ok, kitchen definitely growing on me Flowers

The paint I chose this morning however, is not. Fuck it. Builder will have a conniption if I change them (though I did ask him anyway_

Doesn't do anything for the worktops, does it? Shite this housebuilding lark.

That paint is fine, it looks like a gentle off white. Were you expecting it to have more colour in it?

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 05/07/2018 19:59

Wondering if F&B Strong White would work better there?

3boys3dogshelp · 05/07/2018 20:06

I think the kitchen looks lovely so far, and the paint looks absolutely fine. You’re too close to it! I’d stick with the paint your using and live with it for a while. I love the idea of copper accessories- will still look sleek and modern but should just soften the look a little.

OlennasWimple · 05/07/2018 20:10

I'd have white walls and orange accents

Love the counters

JuneMyNameIsJune · 05/07/2018 20:11

I think the kitchen is stunning - simple, stylish and contemporary. It absolutely does not look cheap or boring or dull.

Love the tan stools, natural but tone with the wood flooring and add warmth.

I agree with the PP's about white for the walls (or a LG or FB white with undertones from the cabinet/worktop colours). The builder won't mind at all. He's getting paid after all and will add it to the bill Grin.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 05/07/2018 20:13

Thanks guys.

Stoat, I don't know what I expect anymore!!!

Maybe a little more contrast with the countertops .... might set them off? But yeah, I guess I have to start somewhere and accept it'll never be perfect first time around i'll never accept that

StoatOfManyColours · 05/07/2018 21:45

Hmm, do you have a F&B Strong White tester to hand? I do like the Ceviche tester, it works harmoniously with your lovely worktops.

StoatOfManyColours · 05/07/2018 21:45

What about LG Shirting?

Cornishclio · 06/07/2018 04:07

I love the units and worktops. Similar to the ones we have chosen for our new kitchen. I am sure it will look lovely once finished. Definitely doesn't look cheap with those worktops as per an earlier post.

furandchandeliers · 06/07/2018 07:10

I love the kitchen op! And I don't even like modern thingsGrin but it looks really nice quality, layout is practical and when it's done it'll look great.

I think stick to white for walls (fuck knows which one, sorryGrin) and get some plants and books to add colour.

PaintItBlack1 · 06/07/2018 10:23

We did something a bit different and had a brighter tile - know it's not for everyone but decided it would be fairly cheap to redo if we want it updating in a few years (old kitchen has 3 layers of tiles one on top of the other!!) - but I hate the all white look! Your worktop looks lovely!

Just popped in there, painters have the kitchen prepped and ready to go! They might have the ceilings done by this evening!

paint, I really like those tiles!

I think it looks lovely, and once it is all clean, and with a few items you can definitely make this look fresh. 'Botanicals' are really trendy at the moment, so if you can add one or two pot plants, that will add colour. Also a few wooden accessories can always help add warm to your space, like a few hanging wooden spoons and a wooden chopping board? If you still think it looks drab, which can happen when using grey, it just means you need to increase the contrast, so paint the wall a darker shade and it will make those floating shelves pop.
