Ok - my kitchen (which is supposed to be a delicate, cool grey) has just been installed in our new build.

Bear in mind there are no lights yet and the 2 side windows are covered in blue protective film. Finally the white carrara worktop has not yet been installed which will hopefully give it a lift.

However, I can't help feeling it just looks drab!! Please can you help reassure me that it will look a lot better when finished? I can't decide what paint colour to go with either so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm starting to panic!
Thanks

P.S 100% aware that this is a complete FWP.

I think it is beautiful! love the appliance garage!

Agree to wait until counter is in, and windows uncovered so that you can get an idea of the light before you paint!

Nanoo , they're gorgeous tiles. Actually went for something similar on my utility floor.

I wasn't planning a splashback though, was just going to paint it for now as the hob is on the peninsula and it's only the sink against the back wall. But I'll definitely think this one over as it could really breathe some life into it. Something I could maybe decide down the line....good one though :)

A few bright bits n bobs, and a vase of stylised flowers.

puppiesandkittens · 02/07/2018 19:40

It'll be gorgeous, you're seeing it at its very worst.
Plain and simple kitchens are the best IMO, it'll soon be filled up with stuff.

I have a very similar worktop and it's lovely.
Not sure I'd go with zingy walls though, tasteful neutral would be my choice.

Sleephead1 · 02/07/2018 19:41

is it grey it looks white to me in photos so I don't think I can really see it properly. I'm not a massive lover of white kitchens but if it's actually grey I would go with a bright colour on the walls also once you get your bits and pieces in I'm sure it will look lovley and as long as your happy with it that's all that matters

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 02/07/2018 19:41

This was the original paint suggestion from an interior designer. She suggested Little Greene Ceviche which is a cool light greeny grey. Still looks a little drab :(

Not to my tastew, but I am sure it will be alright. You picked it becuase it appealed to you, right? So why worry?

springmachine · 02/07/2018 19:43

What you need is a big huge yellow central light feature. Il find picture...

Kool4katz · 02/07/2018 19:43

It will be fine. It's similar to mine although I have a darker grey on the bottom doors with a light grey top half and a bright purple farmhouse style island unit to give it some colour. The worktop also looks very similar to mine too. You can also use brightly coloured accessories and wall art to give it a lift (if you like bright cheery colours).

welshmist · 02/07/2018 19:43

Houzz is great for inspiration as well as instagram. It will be fabulous I am sure.

ggirl · 02/07/2018 19:45

It looks fabulous and will be so much warmer when the blue is off the windows , I think it's that that's making it look too cool.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

springmachine · 02/07/2018 19:46

Here - this is simple white kitchen, walls and polished concrete floor. The whole house was designed like this so that all built in furniture is 'lost' and just the specific features or artwork are what is seen

I was half thinking some tan leather or orange bar stools.... wonder how that might look. Can really add lighting as we have having LEDs around the bulkhead. I also have some really nice prints that should help.

It will be lovelu OP - hold your nerve Smile

springmachine · 02/07/2018 19:50

Ps - as someone with a background in design and mainly kitchen design it does look like a very well thought out space and the design is pleasing to the eye.

Colour is down to taste but personally I like it.

Just to reassure you.

The cabinet carcasses look like very good quality. It looks good enough to rival a Bultaup or Seimatic

HyacinthsBucket70 · 02/07/2018 19:51

I think it's nice OP. It will look totally different by the time you've got your things in it, and it's all uncovered and cleaned.

I'd go for some bright coloured light pendants, and a coloured glass splashback - they're only around £100 and come in a fab range of colours. Doesn't take much colour to add a striking effect.

springmachine · 02/07/2018 19:51

Love the sound of a pop of orange for the bar stools

Almondio · 02/07/2018 19:52

Kitchens are supposed to be clean, fresh, bright places, and yours looks like all of those things. The floor is lovely and warms up the whole room.

Choose bright accessories and use bamboo bowls etc and lush plants to give it some personality and character.

Choose table mats or linen to complement the units. It'll feel like 'your kitchen' in no time.

springmachine · 02/07/2018 19:53

Ps - I have similar on a much smaller scale galley kitchen.
Light grey handles cabinets with concrete worktop and light oak flooring.

We very nearly went with a bolder colour for the units but I'm glad we didn't.

We still haven't decided on a splashback or tiling so May introduce colour there but for now I love my bright yellow kitchen chairs and fruit bowl and accessories like that

OrcinusOrca · 02/07/2018 19:56

It will look a bit rubbishy when it's so unfinished! I am not a fan of clean lines and modern kitchens, I prefer country/cottage kitchens so yours is not to my taste, but I think a quartz top will lift it really nicely. I think I'd be inclined to go for a white/off white even F&B Clunch type shade wall wise. I wouldn't go for a colour pop, that would be for accessories for me. I'd probably jump on the copper bandwagon, I really like that but I expect most on here hate it.

Lighting will transform it too, and flooring. Have faith in what you have chosen Smile

Noloudnoises · 02/07/2018 19:56

I love it. And the paint. Will be beautiful once the worktop goes in. Clean, minimal and very stylish. Am super envious of the larder cupboard. Ugh!

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 02/07/2018 20:05

Spring, thank you! I also love a bit of concrete myself. Having a bench made an we speak in polished concrete for my stove to sit on!

Orca, thanks. Will check out that paint!

Wow OP looks nice honestly once it's fully done will look lush, don't worry once it's fully done you will like it more x

llangennith · 02/07/2018 20:13

I think it’ll look great. Don’t make any decisions about paint or accessories until it’s completely finished.
