Help me not hate my new kitchen!!!! (+photos)

Ok - my kitchen (which is supposed to be a delicate, cool grey) has just been installed in our new build.

Bear in mind there are no lights yet and the 2 side windows are covered in blue protective film. Finally the white carrara worktop has not yet been installed which will hopefully give it a lift.

However, I can't help feeling it just looks drab!! Please can you help reassure me that it will look a lot better when finished? I can't decide what paint colour to go with either so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm starting to panic!
Thanks

P.S 100% aware that this is a complete FWP.

Its still a semi building site at the minute so of course it won’t look amazing. But once it’s finished and you have your stuff on the worktops it will be gorgeous.

wonkylegs · 02/07/2018 17:13

With a wooden floor and that worktop I think it will lift the whole thing and give it some life

Discotits · 02/07/2018 17:14

Doesn’t look cheap, looks like a good solid kitchen. My kitchen (newly installed, but not chosen by me) is fairly standard, so I’ve put bright yellow tiles as a splash back and have brightly coloured smeg stuff to liven it up.

Northernmum100 · 02/07/2018 17:15

I like it but as others have said, wait until.it is complete before making any decoration and accessory choices. I love fused glass splashbacks which could add a unique element to the kitchen. Pinterest has lots for some inspiration.

minipie · 02/07/2018 17:15

And it does not look cheap! PS Is that an integrated fridge freezer in the big cupboard with two drawers under?

Racecardriver · 02/07/2018 17:15

Just stick in a bunch of pit plants and it will look amazballs.

greendale17 · 02/07/2018 17:15

Sorry but I think it is very plain and boring.

minipie · 02/07/2018 17:23

Different people have different tastes! I guess those who think your kitchen is boring would like the kind of kitchen that gets described as "unique" "eclectic" or "colourful". Those kitchens would drive me crazy, so busy with visual stuff everywhere. Each to their own.

ss2011 · 02/07/2018 17:26

I really don’t think you have anything to worry about....it looks really nice to me and your worktop will be stunning. I agree with others that the wooden floor warms it up too. I would wait until it’s all in then pull the film off the windows before you see what colours would work. You could go for a neutral (grey/white) and then add some colour with some tiles or a glass splashback.......but it’s fab, you should enjoy it...

londonfeather · 02/07/2018 17:30

Looks really nice! Don’t panic....

AtreidesFreeWoman · 02/07/2018 17:54

I think the floor and worktops are great!

Honestly it will look very different when all your things are in it.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 02/07/2018 18:02

Thanks all.

I guess one person's plain and boring is another person's clean, minimal and unfussy :)

It does not look cheap!! I agree off white on the walls. A friend of mine has similar and she has a single, great print on one wall that provides a stunning focal point (not lots of twiddle little prints). Lucky you!! I'd love a sleek new kitchen. Enjoy!

mayhew · 02/07/2018 18:08

It's restrained and elegant. Perfect for a modern house. You can keep it minimalist or dress with accessories and colour.

clumsyduck · 02/07/2018 18:10

I think it will look lovely !! It's the exact thing I would like at some point so perhaps biased ! Looks fresh clean and modern and once your things are in that will give it a bit more character

mateysmum · 02/07/2018 18:11

I think it looks like a great kitchen. As others have said, the wood floors will really warm it up and when you get all your bits and bobs in there it will look very different. If you feel the need you can put it shots of colour in there with bright small appliances/window dressing/cushions in the dining/sitting area.

Guiltypleasures001 · 02/07/2018 18:15

Oh op what I wouldn't give to have clean lines and no door moulding to collect dust

It's beautifully crisp with clean lines and minimal, ide probably go with light walls possibly a grey, and some real statement pieces art wise on the walls

Fruitbat1980 · 02/07/2018 18:17

It will have longevity because you can take it in a number of directions. Rather than bright walls I’d go for bright accessories, wether it be black to keep monochrome or bright red/ green. Also add some statement pieces of vases/ candles/ flowers. You can change them up. I’d soften the look a bit with a statement lamp shade/ light fitting or two.

Limpopobongo · 02/07/2018 18:21

I think its early days yet and its impossible to get the full effect until all the crap is out of the way and the job done. Looks fine to me though..

Effendi · 02/07/2018 18:58

I really like it and it will look much better when it'd finished, 100%.
Those cupboard doors would be mucky in 5 minutes in my house though...

YourVagesty · 02/07/2018 19:03

It's going to look gorgeous OP! Post some pictures up when it's finished Smile

keepingbees · 02/07/2018 19:03

I think it will look really clean and modern. Those blue films on the window will be casting an awful light on it. Try and forget about it until you can go see it when those gorgeous worktops are on, I think it will be transformed :)

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 02/07/2018 19:21

You have no idea how appreciative I am of your opinions and advice! Thank you! Feeling a lot more positive now. The stone is going in tomorrow so I'll definitely upload some photos when it's done!

Effendi, give it 2 days and the kids will be wiping ham sandwiches on the doors I'm sure :)

I like it. For the walls I would stick with grey. We have Dulux Heritage Range Wiltshire White on our kitchen/diner/lounge walls. It's such a pale grey it's practically white and is just lovely. Have you chosen tiles yet? I'd go for something like this:

SureIusedtobetaller · 02/07/2018 19:30

It’s nice! Clean and unfussy. Like others have said I’d maybe keep it neutral on the walls and jazz it up with kettle etc and a few well chosen bits.
Worktop is lovely.
