I'm curious, how much did your summer holiday cost this year?

How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

In August I've got a week in Looe, Cornwall self catering apartment, sleeps 4, £1300, for 2 x adults and 1 x 11y.o

Normally we have pasty for lunch and go out for dinner each night so probably spend around extra 1k while we're there.

We like hiking and beach so probably won't spend much on days out.

Just under £900 per adult - week SC package including flights, transfers, luggage and seat selection and airport parking. Not been yet so other costs TBC but I figure we'd eat at home so any SC food costs are only what we'd spend here.

4 people (me, dh, my elderly parents) 26k for all of us. Two week cruise and 3 nights in Rome.

HollyhockDays · Yesterday 13:48

A cruise for two weeks for two adults and two teens c£12,000.

Clearinguptheclutter · Yesterday 13:51

OP's holiday sounds cheap!
We (family of four) are taking the car on the ferry to France and staying in a cabin at a campsite. 9 nights there, 1 night on ferry, 2 nights hotels on the way back.
I think it's costing about 3k but that's self catering so extra costs will stack up. That is in August.

Last year I spent 5k for a week half board at a very nice hotel in Spain at May half term. I mean it was nice, but not quite 5k nice.

£3000 for a weeks half board in Sorrento (but booked 3 weeks before so big discount) for 2 adults 2 teens. Including flights and transfers. Probably spent another £1000 on lunches, drinks, excursions and limocello!

NotSureNeedSomething · Yesterday 14:08

£4000 for 3 (2 adults 1 child) to Malta 5* 11 nights B and B hotel.
very expensive and tbh I’d probably just do an air bnb next year as all DC wants is a pool and chips anyway! Plus I’d choose somewhere with 1/2 hrs flight

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · Yesterday 14:19

One week half board Sorrento in June - two adults - £1,770 and we only spent about £100 each while we were there (mainly read and walked).

AllJoyAndNoFun · Yesterday 14:19

Staying with friends in Italy so 1800 for flights ( 4 adult fares), 500 for a car and then probably another 1000-1500 for meals out and contribution to groceries and drinks.

5 nights Lanzarote, May, flights, self catering 2 bed apartment in a complex with pool next block up from main strip - 1500e. For 3 adults and DC1.5.

Crumbelina · Yesterday 14:21

About £4k for flights to Mauritius (2 adults, 2 kids). About £2k for two Airbnb villas with a pool. That's for 16 nights. Then we need to hire a car and eat (a mix of supermarkets and local places). We used to holiday in Europe and the cost was so damn eye watering that I thought "Sod it, let's go long haul". Since then we've done Bali and Thailand at a similar cost.

SunBurgess · Yesterday 14:24

Two adults and two children 5 and under.

Week in Italy.

£7,500 for flights and half board accommodation.

Spent another £1,050 when there on meals, drinks and snacks.

food for thought. I always prefer to stay in Europe however its clear that you can go more exotic places for a comparable cost these days if you're savvy

Clearingup, I always book the flights way in advance (say October/November for the following summer). The same with Airbnb villas as you can choose the best rated places. I'm thinking about Sri Lanka for next year and it should hopefully cost similar.
