How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

2 adults, 2 15 yo, AI in Ibiza. Breakfast and lunch are fine but dinner is not but we’ve been there several times, it’s a perfect location, the kids can have some freedom and we mostly eat out for dinner and factor in that cost.

hotel andd DC flights package 14 nights 9k, dinners 1.5k, outings and excursions or hire car 1.5k.

the reason we still go there but don’t rate the dinner - the kids can eat as much as they want, rinse the alcohol free contrails and we can now leave them there if we want to do something that they don’t and they are fed and watered. We all quite like a bit of cheesy entertainment too after many years of caravan park holidays.

£3k for week in a lovely eurocamp in Croatia May half term. 2 adults 3 DC including flights, accomodation, transfers and spending money. So much cheaper than a hotel resort, we will definitely be doing it again.

£1000 for 4 of us to stay in a lochside cabin in Scotland. Budgeted another £700 for food and activities. But we like hiking, kayaking etc and have all the kit so if the weather is on our side we won't be spending much on days out.

17 days in Canada, 3 of us. Think it will tot up to about 8k. That's not doing anything flashy but flights, car hire, mid range hotels, activities and food n drink adds up.

I would have thought it gets more expensive as it gets nearer. I wonder what it would be if I just wanted to go tomorrow somewhere.

1K for a gorgeous cottage in the Cotswolds for a week.
We are going to some fancy restaurants but that’s fine as we aren’t paying for car hire and flights etc.
My dh is not a fan of the heat so we tend to stay in the UK on the summer hols as I’m a teacher so have to go in the 6 weeks.
We could spend much more on holidays but I’ve got a bit fed up with airports. They seems much more hassle than they used to be!

2 weeks in France, 2 adults and 2 late teens. 2 different air bnbs, 3 bed with a sole use pool at each - £4k total.

Self catering - about £300 on food shopping. Then about £500 - £1k on eating out and activities - this bit flexes. One area is new to us so we will go out and about more, the other we've been to before so we will do more free stuff like swimming in rivers etc.

About £600 on diesel, tolls and the Tunnel. We're also going further south this year so another £100 on a Premier Inn in Folkestone so we can get the first train out in the morning - we will see if this is worth it or not.

So about £6k total for 2 weeks, and we don't feel we've scrimped at all.

UK coastal - £2k all in for travel there plus SC accomm for family of 4, 1 week, we'll probably spend about 500 quid while we're there its not the sort of location where you do loads of 'day trips' etc so it'll mostly be food, ice creams, we won't eat out loads as we dont mind making simple stuff on hol.

However we already did a 'hot' holiday earlier in the year in a southern european country which was our more 'main' holiday and cost about £3000 plus spending money

10 nights SC Pompeii in June for 2 adults 1 teen £5500 including trips and meals out

malaysia & Vietnam, 10 nights b&b, 3 adults (eldest son 18) & 13 year old. £4200 plus spending money

April: ultra 5* AI Turkey £3k (2 adults and 2 children)

July: Mon - fri glamping in Uk holiday park with a hot tub £355 (self catered, ate normal food) Actvities about £100

1 night in a youth hostel (self catered) £70

Aug: 3 nights in a premier inn near London £150. Merlin attractions (tickets £15ish pppd with skyvip)
Breakfast will be £30. picnic lunch and will eat out for dinner for 3 nights so probably another £200 on eating dinner

2.2k for a villa with its own pool (majorca) for 2 adults and 2 teens
800 for flights
We took 800 spending money but spent more

@holidayhelpneeded1 we were with Celebrity. Really recommend them. We were eastern Med.

£1800 for a large house on northern French coast 4 adults 1 teen. Tunnel free with tesco vouchers.

Week SC cottage Anglesey, £1800. Will probably spend an extra £1000 eating out and day trips. Family of 4, DC 10 & 4.

I love the look of celebrity. If I can ever get my Daughter on a cruise again this is one on my list to try.

2 weeks IA 5 star in Tunisia. £4200. Left UK 11/7

We usually try to get it around £1k each but we’re splurging this year and having a winter luxury one so getting a 4 night Benidorm (nice) holiday for around £2k for 3 of us. We usually do get a nice AI around £1k each though.

Our main holiday this year was £14,000, we spent a week in Orlando and did a Caribbean cruise (Royal Caribbean 2A, 2C). We also did Center Parcs which was about £1000 with spends (term time for most UK pupils, but was holidays for us). And we are doing a sub £1000 Cornwall break in October (again term time for most, not us).

DS is doing GCSEs next year so only planning one holiday which will be air bnb villa in Europe in August, that’s looking to be £6000 all in (villa was quite pricey at £4000, peak time I suppose).

The AI holidays we like would cost about £6000 in May, £8000+ in August (won’t go in August).

We save throughout the year a set amount, I generally find booking in advance is best value for the types of holidays we like, and to ensure availability.

This year it’s costing £3700 for a week all inclusive for four (two adults two children).

Last year was just under 5k for a week self catering (but eating out most nights) for seven (five adults two children).

The year before just under 5k for two weeks self catering for five (ate out for 5 or 6 meals). Three adults two children.

You can see the progression of me getting more and more sick of preparing meals 🤣
