How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

3 adults, took MIL for a bucket list treat so 2 hotel rooms everywhere. £21k all in.

£4k spending money when we got there, including £1k on very special sightseeing flight. Rest went mainly on food, fuel, national park entrance fees, souvenirs.

Vastly more than we’d usually spend but DH’s promotion bonus covered it and we treated MIL. Next year looks more like a European or Caribbean cruise, probably under £5k.

I think its about working out your budget and priorities. For most a cheap room is fine as they wont spend much time in it, for me I have rubbish health so I like a really nice room so if im struggling and have to spend extra time in it, its still lovely. I also want it to be somewhere that has great food.

But I think its mostly about what you can manage. £10k will seem insane if you are scrimping and saving for years for that, but if that takes a few months to pay off it doesnt feel the same.

The biggest thing though regardless of budget is enjoying it and ive had the best holidays in a caravan at a bargain price and also amazing breaks that have cost a ridiculous amount. The key thing for me is the company and making the most of the time together.

@StoppedToTieHisShoe We did 10 nights at the Iberostar Anthelia (5 star) in Tenerife in July 2023 for three of us, half-board, in a mezzanine apartment and it was about £6k. We did a Jet2 package, which included flights and private transfers, so I'm sure you could do it a bit cheaper than that, although I don't know how much prices have changed in the last 3 years.

2 weeks in USA with premium flights, all food and spending included was £16k for 2 adults and a teen

Well, we had a crap 1/2 half of the year health wise which meant 2 cancelled trips and we did really low cost self-catering holidays the two years before. So I will enjoy my expensive hotel.

We don't have hugely expensive hobbies, one child whose uni costs are covered by savings made since she is 3 years old and the mortgage is paid off. So yes, we do have disposable income.

Holidays are important for us and we like comfort and a bit of luxury. I would prefer one week really nice compared to 2 weeks low budget.

10 nights b&b in Majorca for 3 adults £4k including luggage & transfers. We'll probably spend another £1k there

£993 for 4 nights in Greece for family of four. Self catering- includes flight, transfers and apartment.

Paid €6k for a week in 5 star campsite resort 3 ad 2 kids flight and accommodation. Spent an extra 2.5k on food drink outings and car rental . Mad money .

£1200 5 nights in a 3 bed lodge at centre parcs (august)- 4 adults, 1 child.... Will budget about £100 per day on top of food- but I don't think we will spend it all!!

7 nights Kos, 2 adults 2 children, AI, lovely beach view balcony and amazing beach 1 min walk from room. £3800 inc flights from Glasgow. I’ve £600 spending money but want to bring as much of that back as possible!

£4k for 13 days in Scandinavia - that includes flights, accommodation, car hire, attraction tickets but not food and drink.

We budget high for our holidays and this year we’ve added to that budget as both DH and I turn 40 and have chosen a holiday to celebrate, rather than gifts.
we also don’t have the luxury of family to babysit the children so any night out or night away without the children also has the added cost of a babysitter, so we throw the money we save on that into the holiday pot too.

and we don’t spend a lot on clothes throughout the year, getting things second hand from Vinted.

I should also point out that last year we did a 4 night trip to Benidorm as a family for a friends birthday, so it’s not like we just have expensive holidays

Im assuming those that are struggling or cant afford a holiday simply wouldn't click on a post about how much you are spending on your holiday. If it was a post about are you affording a holiday, you might get a mix of responses.

Cost of living will affect some, it wont affect others but threads like this will generally attract people who can and are affording a holiday this year.

£750 for a two bedroom flat for 7 nights on the Isle of Wight for 2 people, both now adults
Approx £100 each for train and ferry fares.

By tradition we have fish and chips on the beach the first night. We will have one meal out a day - could be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Take picnics out, one good restaurant meal out, a pizza night, buy a cooked chicken, quiche, pork pies, salad, eggs, lot of salad and nice bread for other meals. Pain au chocolate, crumpets, Yogurts, fruit for breakfasts.
So probably around £150 for eating out.

I dont drink alcohol, my son not a lot. We are happy to potter about, crazy golf, bowling, a few days out on the bus. So maybe another £100 on entrance tickets.

So around £1300 including food and entertainment

£3k for a week AI in Majorca, 2A and 2C in July. It was 3* and mid. Probably spent another £400 on airport parking, cat sitter, a day out, arcades, food at the airport etc. It’s getting hard to find a reasonably priced holiday in school holidays imho.

They are worlds apart, we’ve done cheap AI, it doesn’t compare to premium, I’d rather do a villa/restaurants than 4* or below AI. Although it’s one of the reasons we’ve never done AI in summer holidays as I dont think it’s worth the cost, I couldn’t find a hotel I was willing to go to under £8k for a family of 4 in August.

Didn't bother going abroad this year, maybe will later in the year once kids are back at school. Had 4 nights away in a caravan Instead.

Caravan was just shy of £400 and probably less than £100 per day on food, entry fees etc as we tend to just have a supermarket meal deal for lunch then chippy or cheese/wine/nibbles for dinner. Plus £100 in fuel.
