How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

£2.9 for a week b&b 4 star hotel in the canaries. 2 adults 1 child.

£5000 for 2 adults & 3 teens for 1 week in Kefalonia. Private villa with pool & (hopefully amazing) sea view.

We’re hiring a car (£600) & will buy food to have at the villa & probably eat out once a day (£1000).

Most sightseeing will be done using the car but may do a boat trip/hire a boat for a few hours.

Last October we did Lanzarote, villa with private pool, for £4,500.

while this is true, I'd spend a small fortune at Tesco's if I was at home.

We paid £4500 for a week in an AI in Gran Canaria for two adults and two kids. We spent maybe £200 while there on a day trip. Accommodation was a 2-bedroom bungalow with separate living room and kitchenette, which was fantastic.

Is this in the holidays including flights as well? Seems like an amazing price.

1 week B&B in Croatia for 4 in August (one of the teens is classes as an adult) with flights £4700. Could've done cheaper locations and accommodation but really want to visit Croatia.

Some of these costs are crazy! We can easily do three separate weeks away for four (2 adults, 2 teens) for under £10K. Usually do half board, Greece, Portugal, Canaries, Spain, 3-4* hotels, not skimping on lunches, ice creams, drinks out and about etc. Always in school holidays because of my job.

We went to Italy in June. £4,000 for flights and a 4 star hotel, half board.2 adults and 2 teens.

We spend at least another €1000 there, probably more. Drinks, taxis, lunches,day trips, boat trips, ice creams etc

Easter- Marrakech 2 adults 4 nights all inclusive-£1250 - 5 star
May half term- Tunisia 1 adult 1 teen for 1 week all inclusive £1600 5 star
August I’m looking at solo Tenerife for 5 nights all inclusive £1000 4 star

Kefalonia trip is mid August. The villa & car have air con thankfully!

In February 5 days in Tenerife £1400 All Inclusive. Did quite a few trips and spending money was about £600 because of that.

July - City Break in Spain £1000 B&B spent about £500 on tours and then eating out.

October - Corfu £1800 All inclusive. That includes seat selection and meals on the plane. Not sure what spending money is but we need to pay tourist tax of 105€ when we arrive.

all these are for 2 adults but due to my term time job, in School holidays sadly.

Approx £1700 plus spending money. Two weeks in France in a mobile home on a campsite with pool, activities, snack bar, restaurant etc. Car on Le Shuttle. I expect we will spend about £1200 on extras (food, activities, petrol, tolls, wine to bring home etc).

I think it’s pretty good value for school holidays.

Africa in January for 2 adults £6500 staying 3 weeks, Italy for a week in July £3200 (1 adult and 2 teenagers) and camping for 2 weeks in Devon £500 (1 adult, 1 teen) plus £500 spending money.

Currently in Mexico. Four adults and one teen, AI. Just over 9k plus a further 1k for trips.

We spent 4 days in Disneyland Paris, 4 of us including dd aged 23 and ds aged 14. We stayed onsite and went via Eurostar. That all cost us £2700 and then we spent £1000 there on food etc, we ate in a lot of the best restaurants on site etc. We had a lovely time, although it was expensive. It cost the same as our week long all inclusive holiday to Spain last year!

Budgeting around £800-£1000 spending money for a week, but have more there to use if needed.

When we went last year, we averaged £100 a day. DD is a bit older so may eat a bit more this year.

We eat breakfast in the apartment. If we’re by the pool during the day, I’ll also make lunch in the apartment, especially for the kids. Nuggets, pizza etc in the air fryer.

We tend to eat out 1-2 times a day. Some nights last year, the kids were too tired to go out in the evening for food so we’d get food from the takeaway for the apartment, or just cook.

All in all, I think it will cost £2,000.

In comparison, our May half-term holiday was £4K for 11 nights for an all inclusive. I’m happy to have one indulgent holiday, and then try to keep the costs down if we’re lucky enough to have a second.

Edited to add the answer to your question - to pay for holidays like the May holiday, we book a year or so in advance and pay some off each month. I’ve found on the all inclusive holidays we’ve been on, we’ve barely needed any spending money at all because the food, drinks, ice creams, activities etc are all included.

Wow these prices we don’t do a big summer holiday but go skiing in March instead and never spent more than £4k for 3A &1C all in - yet everyone seems to think skiing is really expensive when if you self cater & book the bits yourself it really isn’t compared to some of these prices for August.

£5k but that was exceptional because we were away for 4 weeks, 11 countries. Was in term time so cheaper hotels but fuel was a killer this year, about 10 - 15% higher than the previous year and the bike takes E5. Considering what we did I suppose it’s good value per week

A week in a Eurocamp near Paris, 2 adults and 2 kids. Eurostar £500, accommodation the same. £1000 total.

4 days in Amsterdam, just me and DH. Total 1,000 ish, cheapish hotel and cheap flights, but we came here to party and that will run up the bill. My dad is having the kids so I’ve left him with my card (don’t know the cost including that, depends how much he’s indulged them).

Later in the summer we are taking the kids camping on Loch Lomond which should be somewhat cheap provided we can steer them away from the sea life center 😭.

Just over 3 grand. Toronto. One off as big birthday. Can only do july aug as school job. They peak prices then.

I used to pay £5-7k for nice 5* hotels and then I realised it’s wasted on young kids and the whole half board dressing for dinner thing is just a pain. Now we go to Eurocamp type places for a third of the price. Stay in shorts and t shirts the whole time and eat whatever whenever. We’ve had some magical evenings with takeaway pizzas on the beach watching the sun go down.

We went on a cruise last year and I absolutely loved it but my Daughter got a little sea sick going through the bay of biscay so she has been put off for a while but absolutely cant wait to do another cruise. We did 2 week Mediterranean with sky princess and we paid out for a suite and all the extras that came with it were so worth it.

We dont have a holiday for this year as ive had to have a lot of medical stuff going on but have 2 breaks booked for next year and already counting down.

Got a week at center parcs next April time, think that was around £2k but thats for 6 adults.

Then in October we have 2 weeks all inclusive to Majorca, never done all inclusive before but wanted to try it and had a resort recommended on Mumsnet so we are giving it a go. Thats for 3 of us and around £7k but we paid extra as we wanted a particular room that sounded nice.

I dont always pay out so much for breaks but the cruise last year and the AI next year have been a bit more than normal as ive had a really crappy couple years with my health and I won some money so we decided why not.

Last year we spent thousands going to Greece for a week in the middle of summer (older kids so officially it was 4 adults)

however they weren’t thrilled with the entertainment provided (poor children, I recommend a call to child line)

so this year just me and dh are going on a tour of Scotland for 6 days , all food and excursion included, for £750 each !

eldest is working and staying at home , youngest is off to grandmas for a week.

we are doing a family day out later in the summer to make up for it , but neither of them wanted to go to Scotland.

May half term, six nights, two adults and one child, southern Spain, 4* hotel, 3k bed and breakfast plus probably £800-£1000 spending money.
