Mallorca in June, then 2 weeks in the US in September with week 1 being a road trip through Rockies and Yellowstone NPs, and week 2 being in San Diego

That's going to be an epic trip, I'm so jealous. Rockies and Yellowstone NPs are on my bucket list. I've been to San Diego before, it's a fabulous city.

We have centre parcs booked in a couple of weeks. (never been before so interested to have look)
Booked Oman in Feb half term week.
Hoping to book Brittany in May half term week.
Booked to go to Namibia in August.
May try get a short break to Finland in December, budget allowing.

Re Oman. Ramadan starts Mid Feb and will impact your trip if that’s when you’d be travelling.

Thanks!

I've never been to Lyme Regis but we are also looking forward to fossil hunting. We are staying right in the centre in an Airbnb.

I highly recommend a trip to Poco Pizza if you all like pizza. It is delicious! We've been twice. Cute little place, too.

Get a fossil hammer and safety glasses before you go - far cheaper off Amazon. I would highly recommend a tour for fossil hunting if you haven’t done it before. The Lyme Regis museum is pretty cool and obviously the main fossil shop. There is a great pub I will try to find it with awesome staff and does brilliant fish and chips. Also pay a visit to charmouth beach and beer caves well worth a visit too!

Hopes for this year, nothing booked yet.

Provence including Nimes, Arles, Avignon and Aix in early March, well before the heat and the crowds, hopefully!

Salerno in Italy (May) to see Paestum Greek temples and the impressive looking Caserta, then to Herculaneum/Pompeii and Naples for the day to see the museum and eat a pizza. Skipping all the bother of the Amalfi coast, it looks far too crowded and twee for me!

Montenegro for fly and flop in September. Has anyone been, it looks very nice and relatively undiscovered. Can do a day trip to Albania also if I want.

As usual, Cadiz and Estepona for Christmas and into mid January.

Hollyleaves · 08/01/2026 10:24

Flights and large gite booked in France in Auten for everyone in August whoop whoop

Thank you! Yes, I checked when booking..we are there for 5 days before Ramadan starts so we planned to do our road trips and snorkelling early on in the holiday and spend the last couple of days lounging by the hotel pool and beach. We dont drink alcohol which seems to be the only thing that the hotel limits to certain bars and hours.

Lakeside cabin in Finland in June.
Walking holiday in the Yorkshire Dales in September.
Ecuador in November.

What do you expect the cabin in Finland to be like? Roughly how much is it?

countrygirl99 · 10/01/2026 22:04

@Potfullofstuff we ware paying about £1k for the cabin but it sleeps 6 and has both steam and smoke saunas. We are staying about 45 minutes north of Tampere as we have an event there we are planning around. My son and DIL live in Finland and will join us and take their paddle boards and we'll do a lot of water based stuff and go to Tampere a couple of times. We'll fly Stansted to Helsinki and hire a car (definitely needed for rural Finland). Flights are costing £400 for both of us with cabin bags and 1 hold bag.

Hi there. That’s great, but pls keep in mind we don’t yet know if Ramadan will start on the day it’s currently being suggested. The new moon has to be sighted first and depending on the date you’re looking at it could be 24 hours later or earlier.

Food wise at the hotel you’ll probably have to eat indoors as there is a blanket ban across the country on eating in public and if you are staying at the hotel where there’s an ice cream machine for children to help themselves to - it’s switched off for the duration of Ramadan.

You’ll still have a fabulous holiday though. 😊

Boododedoop · 11/01/2026 06:09

@Lordofmyflies sorry. I meant the ice cream machine that’s poolside.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 13/01/2026 18:48

@oocooloo

I've been to Montenegro, it was stunning. We were fortunate to stay at Sveti Stefan when it was accessible to us mere mortals. It was the most incredible hotel in terms of location etc.

Kotor is gorgeous, as is Budva. We also took an excursion into the mountains. I'd give Podgorica a miss though.

Interrailing at Easter for 9 days in Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France.

I'm going to Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava during the Easter Holidays and plan on travelling by train between these cities, 3 nights in each of them apart from Bratislava which will be for 1 night.

I have to book train tickets, are there specific apps for booking train tickets in advance to get cheaper fares?

This sounds like a great holiday! Please report back on how it goes, I've written this on my "things to do" list!

NutButterOnToast · 14/01/2026 11:18

We're going to Dublin for a few days Feb HT, never been anywhere in Ireland so this year is the year to correct that. Flights to Belfast start at our local airport in April so will try to fit in a trip there too at some point this year.

Bannau Brycheniog in March for a long weekend.

Easter undecided, we might go to Tunisia and tour the Roman sites.

May HT 5 days in either St Moritz or Sierra Nevada

No plans yet for summer, Oct HT or December

I belong to a FB group called Interrailing for the older crowd - but anyone is welcome. You can ask all of your questions there and someone will help you.

Hi native Dubliner here. If you have any questions, please ask! Two things I'd advise anyway -

Get a visitor LEAP card (like oyster) can order online or buy at the airport.- if you flying that is! Travel on all modes unlimited for the number of days you choose.

Avoid Temple Bar. OK it's good fun for an hour or so and the music is all day long, but it's not where Dubliners go -it's just far too expensive for a start. Check out Camden Street/Georges Street/South William Street for a more authentic experience of Dublin nightlife, if that's your bag.

Three things I would recommend no matter what -
Kilmainham Jail tour.
DART trip to Howth and/or Dun Laoghaire. Gorgeous trip (LEAP card works for this) all along the coast, particularly the south bound journey. Sit on the left going out for fabulous views!
Georgian Dublin, it's very classy and it's where many of the museums and galleries are situated.

Avoid North of the river. OK for a bit of shopping in Henry Street, but can be dodgy particularly at night, so choose your accommodation carefully.

Will do.

Next week I'm going on a one night hotel break in Dublin.

11 days in Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava during the Easter school holidays.

One of my friends wants me to go on a cruise with her during the summer school holidays so we're looking at Norway.

DH and myself usually take a 3 or 4 nights trip somewhere sunny but not hot during the Halloween school holidays, sometimes we bring his 84 year old mum with us. She's happy to go anywhere and there's a bit of craic in her though she loves looking in every single shop she spots.

I'll be taking a number of short breaks around Ireland including to my home place where I have the use of an empty house opposite one of my sisters house.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 14/01/2026 14:29

So far we have wales for a weekend just me and DH in June.

then a week in Rhodes first week in September. The only week of the whole year the 4 of us were free to go away together!

showing for another short trip somewhere, maybe the canaries in November/december time. But will see how things pan out.

grimupnorthnot · 14/01/2026 16:32

Just had a week in Morocco, got a Dublin & London weekends booked and a Finland & Poland trips planned, and will have 10 days away somewhere in September - possibly Switzerland or Slovenia

If you're doing a Norway cruise, look at the Hurtigruten ones simply brilliant - small boats, fantastic food - we did one in January last year Bergern-Kirkness-Bergen - our best holiday as a couple....
