So far skiing in Italy in March , Paris for a long weekend and to see a band I like in May and then hopefully a roadtrip Vienna to Verona in September (if I can get around to organising it)

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/01/2026 16:24

So sorry to hear from those whose plans have been disrupted due to major health concerns. I sincerely hope you get to do at least some of them.

Hearing about things like that has been the reason that I now have no qualms about going off on my travels NOW while I can instead of saving it for retirement. Instead of "ooh I really shouldn't!" I now try to think "Can I afford it - yes, so why NOT?"

I'm going on a week's cruise round the Adriatic with DH in May (didn't think I was the cruise type but tried it last year and loved it). Another week's cruise in August with my mum - Amsterdam, Bruges, Hamburg. And that was supposed to be it really.

But before DS1 settles down to his graduate job in August and has some free time ,we decided to try for a last family holiday, so we're going to Lake Garda for a week in July (and a night in Verona after getting there). Going to hire a car and do a day trip to the Dolomites too.

Road trip around the nordics, not for the faint hearted - 6000 miles on a motorbike

thornbury · 04/01/2026 17:22

Istanbul weekend in March, Abu Dhabi staycation in March, Maldives in May, UK in July. That's as far as I've got so far, but if DH goes anywhere interesting for work in school holidays I may pop up there too! I went to Kerala last year while he was there.

GuiltyPleasure · 04/01/2026 17:23

New York in May
Antigua in June
Ibiza in July and September

MinnieMountain · 04/01/2026 19:14

@Ohjoyohbliss there are specialist insurers for cancer. It's been a while for me but I expect Macmillain have a list.

Squirrelchops1 · 04/01/2026 19:21

March we'll do a week in Europe, most likely a city break/explore. Last year we did Tuscany...DP does all the planning

June we've 10 nights in Corfu. It's the only place we return to but we've a place we love in the North East and DP missed it last year when we went to crete instead.

Aug...he has shut down so likely somewhere in our camper.

Ive a big birthday next year and want to do a big trip so im a bit mindful of not doing anything too extravagant this year.

3 weeks in Alaska booked in May and super excited, split between Vancouver, cruise and roadtrip!

Considering a cheap week in the Canaries in March and New York in November for the marathon!

I went on a 9 night Alaskan cruise last May and it was amazing, it’s one of the most stunning places I’ve visited. I’d love to go back one day, the excursions on offer are really good especially the White Pass railway trip.

Hollyleaves · 04/01/2026 19:31

Anyone recommend any train trips?

Ineedpeaceandquiet · 04/01/2026 19:35

@Christmaseree - the Alaskan cruise sounds amazing, could you share more details please?

We’re looking at Jordan in April too as mentioned earlier. Would love to hear your plans

CrushingOnRubies · 04/01/2026 22:05

Just booked a week in the Algarve for august.
long weekend up to Scotland for Easter. I am sure there will be other trips as the year progresses too

Citygirlrurallife · 04/01/2026 22:15

All budget going on long awaited trip to South Korea and Japan at Easter. We’ve done Japan once before so going to a totally different part this time.

i do an alternate one on one with each child and DS wants to go to Greece but will have to be towards the end of the year thanks to budget, maybe October half term except we try to travel in Europe without flying and it will take a loooooooong time to get to Greece!

whiteroseredrose · 04/01/2026 22:28

@Twodogsonthecouch we’re going for just over a week so we will only be able to have a whistlestop tour.

We will be starting with two nights in Amman then drive to Madaba via Jerash and Ajloun Castle. Three nights in Petra, one night in Wadi Rum then 2 nights at the Dead Sea. Depending on weather we might try to do the Wadi Mujib Siq trail as a day trip from the Dead Sea.

We could easily have filled 2 weeks but DC could only spare a week unfortunately.

I’m a planner so have got a detailed itinerary including restaurants but that would be tmi for you haha.
