Clean everything!!!!

That's not a holiday.

Get to my room, down to the bar and restaurant. Go outside for a fag and get an idea of the place by people watching.

I travel solo.

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 01:27

For people who have to clean everything do you eat/drink in restaurants, cafes etc? Do you eat on a plane or train, use the toilets?

tobee · 23/04/2024 01:37

Usually go to the fridge to put the milk (if U.K.) and find there's already some in there. Plus often find there's wine, biccies etc.

Abroad usually flop on bed for a while!

coxesorangepippin · 23/04/2024 01:41

I was my hands upon arrival

marshmallowfinder · 23/04/2024 03:42

Turn heating down, remove cushions from bed, open windows, wipe door handles, light switches, kettle and cupboard handles, get WiFi code, have a cup of tea.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 23/04/2024 04:11

I'm surprised everyone makes a cup of tea! Is this in hot countries too?

mathanxiety · 23/04/2024 04:30

Yes - I don't feel at home until I have a cuppa.

Yes, everywhere. Some of us have a caffeine habit to feed 😉

Make a cuppa with my own mugs and get all the cups/plates/utensils soaking with hot soapy water and a splash of Milton

Absolutely bonkers. What do you do when eating out or staying in a hotel? So you insist on seeing everything sterilised before you touch it? Bizarre.

Lulu1919 · 23/04/2024 06:46

Tale shoes off
Do a quick check that it's lovely
Luggage in
Anti bac surfaces, light switches, remote, door handles.
Unpack
Glass wine

Supersoakers · 23/04/2024 06:49

Have a look round, glass of wine/ brew

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 23/04/2024 06:56

So shocked that so many people start cleaning everything!! Omg easier to stay at home!
You can tell if somewhere is minging or not and if so, fair enough but sod that, l go on holiday to get away fron housework!

It’s not exactly a holiday if you clean everything though when you get there. What if you are only going for the weekend, you spend the whole time cleaning. That’s not a holiday.

And I ask again why is it mainly women who think this is something that needs to be done, and they are the ones who do it. Why not get partners to help if it is so necessary?

"Whole time"??????

It takes 5-10 minutes to go round with a/b wipes or a cloth & spray!!!

How enormous are the places where you stay????

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/04/2024 07:05

What sort of minging holes are you all staying it that you need to wipe the place down with anti bacterial wipes?

😂

Every holiday I've stayed in - UK and abroad - is cleaner than my own home.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/04/2024 07:54

@mathanxiety oh good god, you did warn me Grin

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 07:57

@sandieollsen some posters say they wash every plate, piece of cutlery, pan etc. Even if the place has a dishwasher every item in the kitchen is not going to fit in that.

And I am sure a quick 5 minutes wipe down of surfaces won’t be good enough for them (and it must be a very small property you are staying in if you can wipe down every surface in 5 minutes)

What do you think is on them? Do you never eat out at restaurants or other people's houses?

The thread has just gone weirdly competitive. I doubt all these posters are actually doing all this holiday home arrival cleaning IRL. Some people do of course, but not this many.

Librarybooker · 23/04/2024 08:12

This is peak Mumsnet thread on the cleaning front 😂

I often wondered who those anti bac wipes they advertise are aimed at

MenoBabe · 23/04/2024 08:17

AceofPentacles · 22/04/2024 11:42

Get my nhs grade disinfectant wipes out and clean all door handles, light switches, remotes and bathroom taps .

But why? Are you immuno compromised? Otherwise surely you just assume that your immune system will do what it evolved to do. Apart from the height of covid I've never bothered with all that disinfecting and wiping.

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 08:17

It’s such a great example to your kids, mum (and I bet it is mainly a mum) spends the first day of the holiday cleaning the apartment instead of having fun with them.

Holidays are meant to be for getting away from the drudgery of normal life not adding to it.

dollahsains · 23/04/2024 09:03

WalkingWombat · 22/04/2024 22:23

You have OCD, please get help.

Far from it - I'm slovenly in most other ways and would drive an actual person with OCD nuts.
Also.. I don't see how taking less than a minute to rinse stuff that I eat off makes me OCD. Unlike people who are wiping down every available surface.
OCD is a serious and debilitating disorder. Quite disablist to make light of it like that. You should be ashamed of yourself.

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 09:06

@dollahsains have you ever been ill after eating off a plate?
