@dollahsains have you ever been ill after eating off a plate?

Well of course. But, and a big but, because I eat most of my food off plates! Instead of the floor or kitchen table. So that's a stupid question.
You won't find the scientific evidence you're looking for, that plates = ill. Instead of the food. They're inseparable.

Like I stated earlier, I have opened cupboards and seen insects crawling out hence why I wash. If you saw insects all over your food, would you still happily pop it straight into your mouth? Hmmmm?

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 09:20

@dollahsains do you eat out at restaurants, other people’s houses, because they won’t be sterilising plates after they have been in a cupboard before you eat off them?

Wasn’t it a spider you were talking about? You must have to wash everything being taken out of a cupboard in any house if a spider bothers you. If a plate or glass is dusty as not recently used fair enough but not because you once saw a spider 🤷

Yeah I do. If it's a restaurant and there are any issues I'll blame them. Besides plates are usually turned over quickly.
Other people's houses I get my own plate anyway.
More questions? It's funny that you're wasting your precious life on this. What a saddo.
I'm only replying because I'm stuck on a train with nothing better to do.

Classic twisting here. Excessive sanitising is not regular behaviour.

My most advert wince is when child’s highchair tray - which they eat off - is wiped with antibacterial wipes. That’s chemical cleaning, yuk

Hairyfairy01 · 23/04/2024 10:04

Many years ago as a teenager I had to clean multiple caravans using only one cloth. Even I raised it as a concern to by boss who didn't seem to see the issue. I now also clean, well at least wipe down kitchen worktops well.

EatCrow · 23/04/2024 10:42

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 22/04/2024 19:10

Oh come on. You have to tell us now. Why is something not clean when it looks and feels clean?

I’ll give you an example. I worked at a house with the wife of the business owner, she’d go around with a duster to polish things but there was no hygiene, she’d use the same duster to ‘shine’ the toilet. My way of cleaning was to ‘bottom’ things/do a deep clean and I used different cloths, rubber gloves and mops for different areas such as the bathroom. There was no such care with her and other employees. I didn’t last long, it turned my stomach at the lack of hygiene. They priced up jobs without giving the necessary time needed to clean properly in order to get the contract.

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 10:47

But those of us who don’t deep clean holiday apartments have lived to tell the tale.

Polominty · 23/04/2024 10:57

Collect up all the plug in air fresheners, scented candles, anything smelly and put outside. Will put outside on a windowsill if no outside space. Then open the windows. I’m very sensitive to scents. Air out bedding as well, some washing products set me off as well.

But I don't consider it excessive. It's literally just washing plates.
Wiping a highchair plate with antibacterial wipes is strange - those things aren't meant to for edible surfaces anyway.

I'm probably finding this really funny because, if you met me IRL no way would I be judged as being ordinary clean, let alone excessively so. I have ADHD and struggle to keep on top of housework. I don't dust regularly only a couple of times a year, my kitchen counter has crumbs, I wash sheets and towels once a month (or longer...). I don't vacuum or mop either the cleaners do that once every 2 weeks.

I showed the comments to DH and he was like 'are they talking about someone else'? He'd love to have a clean and tidy wife but sadly he's stuck with me!

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 11:36

How much cleaning does your DH do @dollahsains? But you said you rinse plates at home before you use them, that isn't usual, and use your own plate when at other people's houses (or maybe I misunderstood that)

TorroFerney · 23/04/2024 11:59

check if there are champagne as well as wine glasses, check if there’s a peeler (we have a buffet first night in a uk place with carrots and hummus) generally look round, unpack and the start holiday.

He does as much as me - which Is close to nil. Laundry, cooking, dishes etc are things we split, because they MUST be done. But they're not cleaning. Anybody that makes a mess like spilling something cleans it up themselves obviously.

I've already explained in my very first post why I wash them - go back and read. And I rinse the plate at other people's houses too, as I always get my own from their cupboards. Like everyone else. I've never been to someone's house with the table already set.

Anyway I have no idea why you lot are fixating on the plate washing habits of an internet stranger. Me doing ONE thing you seem strange/unusual doesn't make me a nutjob. Maybe if I wiped everything down, washed sheets every day, etc.

But all I do is wash plates before I eat off them. Simples. I have no idea why your small brains are blown by this. I've been called OCD by @WalkingWombat , accused of twisting by @Librarybooker , and my cleaning habits etc questioned by @crumblingschools. I'm sure you all do at least one thing that other people wouldn't seem normal but that doesn't mean that you have some sort of disorder.

This place is mad! And this isn't even the point of the thread.

No point in me answering any more as you're all just going to pull it to pieces, to satisfy your initial impression and judgement of me. There is nothing I can say that will change your minds. Have a good day. I'm glad to have been so entertaining.

Wash all the inventory......housekeeper here and I know that shit might look clean but take it from me it's not!

Yep. I've worked for a company cleaning holiday lets and I always do this

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 23/04/2024 13:29

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 00:57

It’s not exactly a holiday if you clean everything though when you get there. What if you are only going for the weekend, you spend the whole time cleaning. That’s not a holiday.

And I ask again why is it mainly women who think this is something that needs to be done, and they are the ones who do it. Why not get partners to help if it is so necessary?

TBF I did this myself when we went on our first couple of breaks during the pandemic and it really doesn't take that long .

dollahsains · 22/04/2024 19:05

I wash everything before use - even at home!
Because some geniuses leave the cupboard doors open too long... I opened it once and a spider scuttled out. Eurgh.

Our last holiday house was spotless, but the first kitchen cupboard I opened had a spider living in it who was so huge that we nearly turned round and drove 5 hours home rather than deal with it 🤣

It was a traumatising experience and I'm not normally scared of spiders! 🤣

WalkingWombat · 23/04/2024 15:43

I’m not keen on spiders but I’d eat off a plate they had walked on, they’re not know being filthy buggers.

I'd prefer not to have to deal with sick children when on holiday all the same.

It takes very little time to load a dishwasher with the flatware and cutlery in a holiday rental and let it rip.

It takes even less time to deal with dishes, etc., on holiday if you bring your own paper plates and cups, water bottles, insulated mugs, and whatnot to use.

crumblingschools · 23/04/2024 19:39

But has anyone ever been sick from using cutlery or a plate.

I am amazed how many posters cope with actually staying in a holiday apartment, away from the safety of their sterilised home environment. How do you cope with public transport, service stations, hotels, restaurants, takeaways etc?
