The miserable weather is making me think of holidays! Where is the most beautiful place you've been to on holiday? Mine is a draw between Hoi An in Vietnam and the Alps in the summer. Oh to be back at either places...!

@DeepDarkBlue
So many lovely suggestions. I've lived in three other continents but I still think nothing beats the U.k countryside and coast for beauty. It might not be as spectacular as other places but it's so pretty.

I actually agree with you, I think many parts of the UK are absolutely stunning, in particular Scottish highlands and Pembrokeshire IMO.

while we do have a weather problem other places do too eg went to the whitsundays (mentioned a lot here) and the weather was absolutely foul and I barely saw anything other than the bottom of a sick bucket (was on a sailing trip)

Curlyshabtree · 03/01/2024 08:48

The Scottish Highlands

itsmyp4rty · 03/01/2024 09:40

Snowdonia and Porth Curno Cornwall are my UK picks - although Dartmoor is pretty spectacular too.

Europe I'd go for Cies Isles - Spain, Lake Carezza (Dolomites) - Italy and Santorini off season.

Outside Europe I'd go for Perhentian Islands - Malaysia, Spirit Island - Canada, Holbox Island - Mexico and Petra/Wadi Rum - Jordan.

So much beauty in the world!

Yes, went there in about 1999. It was stunning. I have wondered if it's got a bit commercialised since. I'll soon find out as DDs going there in April.

It has gone commercialised but the lake is still beautiful in my opinion. Went last August

Souvenir81 · 03/01/2024 14:37

I am getting itchy feet again

Splety · 03/01/2024 14:42

For those pisstaking Dartford and Gravesend you should try some of the villages in NW Kent in May/June with the billowing cow parsley and other wildflowers, with red kites soaring overhead . Hard to beat.

Nungwe and Matemwe in Zanzibar for white sand desert island beach scape. Kotor area in Montenegro blew me away with its panoramic lakes and Mountain views, impossible to capture on film.

Sian Ka’an biosphere on the Mexico/Belize border. Coral the colour of which was electric, sea the most incredible colour.

Horriblewoman · 03/01/2024 14:48

I love water so anything sea or lake based for me.

I island hopped around the Ionian Sea this summer on a sail boat and frequently had my breath taken away.

Costa Rica too - the stars over the sea were like nothing else I’ve seen.

SiobhanSharpe · 03/01/2024 14:55

Pink sand beaches and turquoise seas in Bermuda.
The view where I am at the moment (looking out over the Bay of Cadiz)
Mount Fuji from the air after taking off at Haneda in the early morning.
Driving through the Drakensbergs in winter.
Sunsets over wide open fields at our west-facing old house in north Essex.

Where is the most beautiful place you've been to?

Had forgotten Porth Curno …absolutely stunning with the Minack Theatre carved into the rocks.

Mine have all been mentioned already:

Maldives
Venice
Finnish Lapland in the winter.

All very different but breathtaking.

Bry8899 · 03/01/2024 15:11

Bali! It was so beautiful. I want last in 2019 and I would go again tomorrow.

You have a bit of everything, stunning beaches, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, jungles.

the food is incredible, the people and their culture is lovely. Overall it’s just the best.

but more locally any of the Greek islands are stunning! ☀️

Janieforever · 03/01/2024 15:13

Maldives for me too. When you look down from the seaplane and see all the islands in the turquoise water , it really is like something out of national geographic. You can’t actually believe it really looks like that.

Mumofyellows · 03/01/2024 15:15

Croatia, some of the islands are so unspoilt and the water is incredibly clear. We are returning this year!
The Alpes. In Winter or Summer, simply stunning, in fact all year round! I've been so many times and can never get bored.
Washington State, Seattle, all around that area, unbelievable!

OldRanter · 03/01/2024 15:16

Fig Tree Bay Cyprus

MissAmbrosia · 03/01/2024 21:23

Snowdonia
Stresa - Lake Maggiore
Sirmione - Lake Garda
Villa del Balbianello - Lake Como
Cinque Terre
Taormina in Sicily
Gassin, near St Tropez
The Camargue - in the middle somewhere on a boat.
The Alhambra in Granada
Ischia - especially Castello Aragonese
Sardinia - Capriccioli beach
Grindelwald
St Emilion
Bonifacio in Corsica

Anawi · 03/01/2024 21:55

I think I saw mine mentioned earlier, Rarotonga in the Cook Islands ❤️ I would love to go back there one day but its probably quite unlikely to happen.

EwwSprouts · 03/01/2024 22:15

Standing at the top of snow covered mountains, clear blue skies, looking down on Lake Tahoe. IT's just breath taking.
A PP mentioned Tofino and that's another.
Palombaggia beach on Corsica.

DuesToTheDirt · 03/01/2024 22:15

Machu Picchu.
