I am dreading travelling somewhere and realising I have forgotten something, like my contact lenses!!

Yep.
No toothbrush one year.
DH managed to get to the airport with no wallet......
My boss got to the airport with no passport.

Most things are solvable. In the last case, he went home, wrote his presentation, and emailed it to me 30 seconds before I had to present it. I was less than impressed!!!

LegArmpits · 09/08/2023 10:09

All the kids' clothes 👀

DrCoconut · 09/08/2023 10:18

My camp stove. We self cater due to medical dietary needs so it was a tough few days food wise. Who knew you can cook fish cakes in a toaster?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 09/08/2023 10:21

Forgot my youngest once 😱

Night before we were due to fly to Paris he was being a right pain so I sent him to bed. Stupidly our alarms didn't work in in the morning and we were woken up by the taxi so everything was a bit of a blur. Managed to bundle everything and everyone out of the house but hadn't realised that no one had woken up DS. Didn't realise until we landed!

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea this gave me a good giggle 🤣 haha

Beamur · 09/08/2023 10:24

DH didn't put my bag containing all of my toiletries and contact lens gubbins in the car.
Luckily it was a UK holiday 😁 I was pretty grumpy about it though.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 09/08/2023 10:25

My straighteners.

NoraLuka · 09/08/2023 10:26

Debit card. I realised halfway through a 9 hour drive and spent the rest of the journey wondering when to tell DP 😁

I bet you never made that mistake again!

LunaLoveFood · 09/08/2023 10:27

Yep our entire suitcase. We had the dc case but not ours. Thankfully a credit card and supermarket saved the day!

Stratocumulus · 09/08/2023 10:28

Years ago ….
My huge Samsonite holiday suitcase! All my holiday clothes.
Left in the spare room.
Got to Heathrow and we suddenly realised. Aaaaaaaah!
Flew to Florida in winter velvet jacket, sweater and wool skirt, thick tights.
Had to go shopping asap on arrival for all new lightweight stuff. I didn’t mind a bit because DH offered to pay for it all. Result! 😁

You wouldn't believe it, but we did!
Well, sort of. Only the second time it was we were separated in airport and ended up on different flights. So technically I didn't forget anything. Stupid husband lost his wallet though 🙄

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 09/08/2023 10:32

Dh’s debit card got swallowed in Hong Kong. The numbers on the key pad of the cash machine were bottom to top. He’d only put the PIN in once and the machine swallowed his card.
Why he only brought the one card with him is beyond me? Luckily I had all my cards on me. As dh was with HSBC they were very helpful in giving him cash over the counter.

Mrsjayy · 09/08/2023 10:32

I forget silly but replaceable things, last time it was pants all of my pants were safe on my bed at home!

Qilin · 09/08/2023 10:42

Didn't take enough daily contacts once. Must have miss counted. Had to reuse a set - not ideal. Joined one of the additional motivators for finally getting my eyes lasered.

Left my handbag in the hallway when driving abroad on holiday, with my purse and phone in. Found out too late to go back. Had to log in to dh's phone to download all the holiday documents/emails - luckily a cloud based email and files system. Fortunately dh had his wallet and things like the passports were separate.

However, most things we find are easily solvable.
So now we check the essentials: passport, phone (as has all documents/emails/info on), dh's driving licence, my medication and ideally a wallet with cards

Most other things we can sort when there.

I always forget something, but I've forgotten the following significant items in the past:

I'm now usually very good at remembering my contact lenses and glasses after once forgetting my glasses for a week long trip, bumbling about a pitch black house with no glasses in the middle of the night
A fortnight's holiday where I forgot to pack any t shirts for one child.
A fortnight's holiday with only 3 pairs of pants for the other child
All my shoes
Bras
All my shoes for a second time
Sufficient pants
Forgotten pyjamas when I was sharing a room (and a bed it turns out) with a friend

My husband is just as bad. We've had a wedding where we've spent the morning in a shopping centre for a shirt, and the morning of a funeral buying shoes.

Could be worse, my parents once left their massive bag of duty free on their airport trolley.

We now have an elaborate spreadsheet.

Oh, now I'm having flashbacks to a job interview where I'd forgotten to print my slides for my assessors (required) and a very nice man in a rural train station did some photocopying for me.

Octavia64 · 09/08/2023 11:08

I forget something most holidays.

These days I have the attitude that I expect to forget something and when I give out what it is I'm pleased because now I know!

The only thing that is really problematic is forgetting my prescription drugs as replacing those is very annoying!

xyz111 · 09/08/2023 11:14

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea your posts are cracking me up, especially the people who clearly have never watched a good Xmas film 😜

Readthebooks · 09/08/2023 11:16

My mobile phone. It's was actually pretty great being totally uncontactable, took me back to my youth!

Roosmarjin · 09/08/2023 11:17

Cables. Got so many for my phone that I've only used once!

WolfFoxHare · 09/08/2023 11:30

I forgot my contact lens case once - luckily there was a pharmacy still open at our destination and not only did they have cases available, they let me have one for free!

I also left something in the bottom of a cupboard in a holiday apartment, and the lovely caretaker boxed it up and posted it to me.

We bought a multifunctional cable from flying tiger it has all the connectors , I keep it in a bag we always take on holiday , we were always forgetting at least 1.

beguilingeyes · 09/08/2023 11:32

The contact lens issue. I forgot my solution on a trip to Vegas once..this was before dailies. I had to shlep up and down the strip trying to find some. Not the best place for ordinary shopping.

whoruntheworldgirls · 09/08/2023 11:42

Forgot pants once. I'd thrown things in the case, unpacked the day before leaving so i could re pack it properly, missed the pile of pants. Thankfully UK break so had to head straight to a supermarket to but new ones.
I now have a spreadsheet with a column per person inc a hand luggage column :-D
