I am dreading travelling somewhere and realising I have forgotten something, like my contact lenses!!

I once booked to stay in a French hotel that had a really generic name e.g. White Horse then forgot which one I'd booked at and stayed at a different White Horse!

Forgot my youngest once 😱

Night before we were due to fly to Paris he was being a right pain so I sent him to bed. Stupidly our alarms didn't work in in the morning and we were woken up by the taxi so everything was a bit of a blur. Managed to bundle everything and everyone out of the house but hadn't realised that no one had woken up DS. Didn't realise until we landed!

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea

nah, not wearing that, it's just a fantasy!!

😂😂😂

Maddy70 · 10/08/2023 14:49

Yup, the keys to the property we were staying in. We had to have someone break in to our house, find the keys and courier them to the USA whilst we stayed in a hotel. Not my finest hour (my fault).

You wouldn't believe it, but we did!
Well, sort of. Only the second time it was we were separated in airport and ended up on different flights. So technically I didn't forget anything. Stupid husband lost his wallet though 🙄

Stop it you're killing me 😂

purplecorkheart · 10/08/2023 15:30

Trousers. I had packed them and then took them out as I said I would run the iron over them. They never got back in the case. Thankfully there was a large department store next to the hotel.

Normally though I start making a packing list as soon as I plan to go away so always have a check list to tick.

Middle of Worcester countryside miles from anywhere husbands underpants
gets to Benalmedena in the middle of a late season heatwave one pair of shorts for me
hairbrush countless times

FrivolousTreeDuck · 10/08/2023 19:17

My coat. I'd put it on top of the suitcases to go into the car. DH put the suitcases in and my coat back on the peg!

AnnaNims · 10/08/2023 19:24

Not me, but my husband forgets stuff with tiresome regularity. He’s an absolute eejit when it comes to packing. He travels for work a lot as well as pleasure several times per year, but he’s still rubbish and we invariably have to shop for his essentials on arrival.

I am really paranoid about my daily contact lenses. I go so far as the pack a box in each case.

vipersnest1 · 10/08/2023 19:34

I've just got back from a two week holiday. I left behind all of my hairbrushes (luckily I had a comb and could manage), and my watch charger - I just had to do without that.

Herewegoagain2023 · 10/08/2023 19:41

I forgot our ehic cards on our most recent Europe holiday. I kept going downstairs to get them, then remembered something else and would forget each time. Remembered when we got there though and DD had an accident and needed an x-ray on her foot. You would think a British passport would have been enough. I had to call around all my neighbours and find someone free who could grab a spare key off my other neighbour, to go and rummage in my drawers and take photos of then for me, whilst sitting in the waiting room trying to console a wailing four year old.

Herewegoagain2023 · 10/08/2023 19:52

Another one pre parenthood- I was travelling and in Mexico, about to head to America the next day. Had gone into a restaurant and was so used to being barefoot everywhere there, I took my trainers off as my feet were hot and left then under the table. Walked back to my hostel without even noticing. Went back later on or the next day, once I realised I had no shoes (reccolections may vary) and they were gone.
With no clothes shops anyway, the next day I had to rummage in the lost property of a hostel and find some size 10 flip flops for my size 5 feet, just so I'd be allowed to walk onto the plane, like a clown. I was heading to the mountains so ended up wearing these clown flippers on my feet for about six weeks before going to a city and buying some proper shoes. I think they became my favourite shoes ever.

Underwear and pyjamas

Workawayxx · 10/08/2023 20:04

I’m always on it with the essentials - phone, wallet, contact lenses. Anything else is often forgotten. We go camping in the uk though so it’s not really a disaster. Dp brings tent, beds, cooker, fridge so anything else we can get by without!

fetchacloth · 10/08/2023 20:08

Underwear 😫

midsomermurderess · 10/08/2023 20:10

My swim suit. I was in Gozo in October. It was impossible to find one anywhere need my size. I swam in knickers and a t shirt.

Cloudsandrainnotsunandsand · 10/08/2023 20:11

Dh didn't pack his toiletries one year. Was quite shocked I hadn't packed for him . He never forgot again..
I packed all of the 4 x dc stuff and left the bags in their rooms as dh is Car Packer..
He left 1 of ds's 2 bags. We were camping and dh left behind the bag covered in pics of tents..

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/08/2023 20:29

Currently away - ds forgot his was bag. Teenage boys don't put high priority on personal hygiene!!

I've been away (only to DM's a few hours away) and forgotten my whole bag.

Been to the south of France coast without my swimsuit....

DH has brought sunglasses in Las Vegas, Chamonix. Keswick !

Went to a swim event a few hours away without my goggles.

We went away for DH and DD to ride. Mountain bike race a few years ago. DH forgot to put me on the hotel booking, and onky booked for one night instead of 2. Sorted that out, then realised when we signed dd on for the race that we didn't have her helmet.

Louloulouenna · 10/08/2023 20:34

My dh managed to leave his entire suitcase behind for a 2 week holiday, quite an achievement. He kitted himself out at Heathrow.

I will never forget queuing at check in when he counted the suitcases and stopped at 4….

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 10/08/2023 20:54

Sleep
Shit
Scran
Spare time

The 4 'S's of packing

That's why I forgot DS. Doesn't start with an S.

WesterChick · 10/08/2023 21:24

These are brilliant but I can't get past the poster who left their actual youngest child GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Diversion · 10/08/2023 21:28

DH forgot to pack his underwear for a trip to Budapest. We went to supermarkets but could only find male thongs 😂 Luckily we were only there for 5 nights and he borrowed a pair of mine (boy shorts style) and washed them alternately in the bathroom basin each night and left them to dry. It has been about 8 years and I always ask him now if he has packed his pants

Lagershandy · 10/08/2023 21:32

I see to all the packing etc because I like it. DH decided to supervise, but I told him to go away (!) and sort out his own shit, wallet/credit cards etc.
The biggest fault with DH is that someone else is ALWAYS to blame and he is NEVER wrong. Just adding this for context.
So we land in Atlanta, go to the Hertz desk and DH gives them all the paperwork (we had pre booked the car) everything is in order and they ask for his U.K. driving licence. DH looks in his wallet, and there is no driving licence! DH looked at me and I knew straight away he sooo wanted to blame me but he was the one who tidied up his wallet and left his licence behind.

We had planned to a three week road trip in the Deep South, and all I could think of was that we were stuck in Atlanta, (it's a great city but not 21 days great)

Anyway Hertz couldn't rent us a car but they directed us to another car rental who could, but it cost us an extra 400 dollars! We did have a fabulous holiday though.😃

And no, I haven't let him forget it!
