I am dreading travelling somewhere and realising I have forgotten something, like my contact lenses!!

OP posts:

my Pyjamas one year

Family sun holiday, forgot my bikini and swimming costume

I've learned my lesson now having been a ditzy mare several times.

I now have a spare of everything I can't be without. Spare phone/tablet chargers, spare hearing aid charger, spare set of make up - not much but the essentials - spare meds (I do check the dates before I go), copy prescriptions, spare debit card (on a spare account that I top up just for travel emergencies) and several other bits and bobs. They are in a "grab bag" that I refill and put away when I return, ready for the next trip.

It's not a perfect system, but it works for me. I know the absolute essentials are in there and once I have that I'll be ok if I forget everything else!

A month's holiday in NZ with no spare undies. Being somewhat generous of girth it wasn't very easy getting spares.

Also went on a cruise with only half the number of needles I needed for my insulin.

I went on honeymoon without a change of underwear. Luckily we were spending the day after the wedding in the UK before flying out so a quick trip to M&S solved the problem. I've also left half my t-shirts at home.

Yes, my suitcase (not kidding - dh thought I'd put it in the car boot and I thought he'd done it). Arrived at destination - empty boot!

We forgot to put the battery back in the caravan after charging it, luckily we had electric hook up so it didn't matter too much

We are currently on an active holiday in a hot country and DS forgot his walking sandals which we had bought only two days before leaving. It's not the kind of place where you can buy replacements but fortunately for him we are the same shoe size so he has been wearing mine when needed and otherwise has worn trainers. We did manage to buy a pair of flip flops so we have those for beach days.

We also forgot a specific charger, DD's headphones and my moisturiser. I thought we had a great list but clearly not!

My make up bag - I’d bought lots of new make up especially for my holiday.

Not such a big deal if it happened now, but back then, I was 19, going on my first holiday abroad with my boyfriend (now dh) & I felt very hard done by.

Dh was very kind (& patient) and bought me some new bits from duty free. I remember him looking slightly perplexed as I took him round the aisles looking for waterproof mascara and a particular nude brown lipstick

We forgot the pump for our air tent, I realised about 4 hours into the 6 hour journey. Googled camping supplies and couldn’t believe there was only one superstore in the opposite direction. Called them as soon as they opened but they didn’t have any in stock. We weren’t meant to be on site until 1pm (we had travelled early to miss the traffic and planned to go get food etc before heading to the site), but ended up going straight to the site and stalking all the tents to find one that was the same brand as ours and looking for one that had someone around. We were worried everyone would go off for the day before we could speak to someone. Thankfully a very helpful lady agreed to leave her pump in her porch area for us to come and borrow at 1pm!

These are brilliant but I can't get past the poster who left their actual youngest child GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

I think the poster is pulling our leg and is referencing the film Home Alone. 😂

chickabilla · 11/08/2023 07:23

All of our underwear when we went on honeymoon. We had packed it in a separate bag and forgot to put it in. The nice undies were replaced with supermarket cheapies for the occasion!

C1N1C · 11/08/2023 07:24

Dad and I had gotten I. The car, driven off, and wondered why it was so quiet...

We'd left mum behind.

What's Home Alone?

I've forgotten lots of things over the years and so has DH - many a time have we had to buy pants, socks, toilettries, etc. But we've never (yet!) forgotten something essential like contact lenses or medication. I did run out of contact on one holiday, but I had my glasses with me, so it was okay.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/08/2023 11:04

Yes indigestion tablets. The pharmacy wanted £15 for them so I obstinately said no and suffered for a fortnight Grin

All the people who forget their pants, don’t worry, I have packed enough for you. I seem to pack knickers on the understanding that I will shit myself daily.

Same

cantstaymadatyou · 11/08/2023 13:05

Didn’t take enough disposable contacts. I had to go to a local pharmacy and mime contact lenses to the lady behind the counter so managed to get some cleaning fluid. Surprisingly for disposable contacts they held up pretty well with cleaning and reusing.

I forgot pjs on a holiday in the UK but luckily got Next to do a next day delivery to our caravan! Also Amazon are pretty useful when you’re in Europe if you’re somewhere with limited shops although delivery times are understandably a bit slower.

What's Home Alone?

If you google Home Alone, you will see that it is a 90s film where a family bundled all the kids in the car and flew to Paris leaving their youngest behind. It is on tv just about every Christmas in the U.K.

That's so strange...

Fruitynutcase · 11/08/2023 16:43

Yes a comb . And it was a long walk to a chemist to get one .

GrimDamnFanjo · 11/08/2023 16:44

A dress for a special evening out. It was the same colour as my bed and when I packed I just didn't see it.

SnobblyBobbly · 11/08/2023 16:50

That's exactly what I forgot when we went away for my sisters hen do!

Lots of pics from the first 2 days of me wearing my glasses in the pool with sunglasses ON TOP of them much to the other Hens delight 😆

Thankfully there was a latecomer joining us and my husband dropped my lenses off to her because otherwise I'd have been so annoyed with myself.
