Have you ever been on holiday and forgotten something?

I am dreading travelling somewhere and realising I have forgotten something, like my contact lenses!!

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea Seems like your youngest did indeed mature after that experience. Didn't he end up catching the wrong flight a few years later, but managed to stay in a swanky hotel and befriended a homeless woman in a park in New York? 😂

OP- I generally write out a list of items for a longer haul type holiday, even though many things can be bought locally

  • I forgot to take my packet of contraceptive pills with me once
  • DH forgot his shirt for a wedding in a remote location. He managed to borrow a shirt off the groomsman and made cufflinks from my hair ties and earrings!
  • Take tampons (if used) when going to Thailand or other east asian counties, as they aren't as easily available

We once drove hours to go camping and had forgotten the sleeping bags.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/08/2023 23:32

Half way through a five hour drive and it dawned on me that the only shoes I had with me were the sandals on my feet.

Got to America to discover that dd2 had packed herself mainly pyjamas. She got a whole new wardrobe from Walmart. She was only seven so she was thrilled.

OMG, I forget something every bloody holiday. And I have a holiday list and I still forget something.
Items forgotten over various holidays include; Swim suits for the whole family, all the dogs food, shoes, my regular medication etc.
we also regularly leave something behind apart from the most recent holiday which was a first.

DH went to Oslo for a week on a short secondment. Forgot to take any pants. Worked very long hours so couldn’t get to a shop, so washed them every evening for a week and dried on the radiator.
Pants are the first thing he puts out to pack ever since.

Just back from a month travelling in SEAsia and left my make up bag at security at Heathrow when I was flying out 🤦🏻‍♀️

A month of no make up 😱

SM4713 · 09/08/2023 23:38

My friend came to a festival with me and my then boyfriend. When friend opened up her tent, there was just the material part- she'd forgotten to pick up the support poles/pegs which were in a different bag.

boydoggies · 09/08/2023 23:40

My shoes. Went to Lapland in my slippers.

honeyfox · 09/08/2023 23:44

I'm Irish, went to a family funeral in Scotland once and forgot my black funeral outfit 🙈

My grandmother would have killed me (her BIL). No way I could go in jeans so I had to run up and down the nearest high street to the charity shops to cobble something together. Luckily they were open on a Sunday, they wouldn't have been in Ireland! Always had a soft spot for the British Heart Foundation since.

Aplume · 09/08/2023 23:44

I left the front door key in the lock, on the outside 😱😱 fortunately it was a very early morning flight so no one else was around and we'd only gone a bit down the road so could go back and sort it out. It could have been loads worse!!

Cannotthinkofanametoday · 09/08/2023 23:45

Our suitcase of clothes. The town we were staing in had a tiny Adsa so we bought some multi packs of undies, but we had to travel to the nearest big town to find a massive Tescos and buy a load of clothes.

denpark · 09/08/2023 23:49

I forgot to leave behind my then husband.
Would have made most holidays a lot calmer!

PriamFarrl · 09/08/2023 23:49

All the people who forget their pants, don’t worry, I have packed enough for you. I seem to pack knickers on the understanding that I will shit myself daily.

Forgot my youngest once 😱

Night before we were due to fly to Paris he was being a right pain so I sent him to bed. Stupidly our alarms didn't work in in the morning and we were woken up by the taxi so everything was a bit of a blur. Managed to bundle everything and everyone out of the house but hadn't realised that no one had woken up DS. Didn't realise until we landed!

Damn that Kevin!

mrsfollowill · 09/08/2023 23:51

Many years ago a holiday on the North East coast of England- August it was. Beautiful day when we set off. I had only packed 'Summer' clothes and not a single coat for anyone. That first day was lovely - then we had a week of rain/gales/ hail!! Have never had to put the central heating on in a holiday house before or since!
We travelled with better prepared family who loaned us hoodies/cagoules etc. Then the kicker- arrived home a week later to a heatwave. We live less than 2 hrs away from said holiday home. We go abroad these days. I have spent too much time sitting in a gale 'enjoying' a picnic.

travelogue · 09/08/2023 23:52

Yep - DSs suitcase. Whole new wardrobe bought in the connecting airport since final destination was an island with no shops! 🙄

spotsandflowers · 09/08/2023 23:53

Outing potentially but I forgot my critical meds as well as insect repellants, calpol and piriton.
DC caught chicken pox and I had nothing

Home Alone?

sjpkgp1 · 10/08/2023 00:10

Walking boots on a walking holiday. Swimwear on a holiday in Italy with pools. The shoes of all four children on a caravan holiday as I made them get in the car without their shoes and pyjamas on so they could have a comfy night time journey. Hairbrush, too many times to recount. I've got really good now with a proper list, but my latest fail was going away on a meticulously planned, far flung trip of a lifetime for 35 days with the tiniest hand sub 5kg baggage ever that had absolutely everything I would (and did) need smug face and then realising that my annual bank-based insurance only covers you for 31 day trips, so I was uninsured not so smug now !. You cannot buy it once you are on the way. Still makes me shake my head and roll my eyes at myself even though nothing happened that required it.

Hilarious 😂😂

Once left pushchair on the luggage carousel when we arrived on holiday, took 2 days to get it back, dd was about 18 months, very hilly location and needed a lit of carrying.
First uk holiday after my diabetes diagnosis i had my big bag of medicines etc but forgot little bag with blood glucose meter, thankfully local chemist had one in stock so had to buy one.

Kittyhasababy · 10/08/2023 13:55

After repeatedly telling my teens not to forget their pyjamas, I forgot my pyjamas. 😂

Lifeisonebigadventure · 10/08/2023 14:12

Always, but I run on the motto of ‘as long as I have the passports, booking info and a credit card anything else can be bought or we can do without it’.

stayathomer · 10/08/2023 14:41

The people beside us camping had travelled two hours to find they’d forgotten part of their tent! God I felt for them! Once decided I’d use no conditioner to save on space at the airport, also took out aftersun. Needed both in the end😅
