Negative reviews for our hotel 10 days before daparture!!

I booked our family holiday months ago with Jet2, but in the last couple of weeks lots of negative reviews have come about for this hotel and i'm not sure what to do about it!
Have a read for yourself - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g775984-d287893-Reviews-Balansat_Resort-Port_de_Sant_Miguel_Ibiza_Balearic_Islands.html#/media/287893/703086319:p/?albumid=101&type=2&category=101

I know reviews can be left by overdramatic Karen's and to be honest lots of the feedback sounds like pretty normal stuff to expect when you book a fairly budget all inclusive family resort and some people just expect too much - what do you think?

Even before booking I read about the sharp pool bottoms, so i've got the boys (5yrs and 3yrs) water shoes, we have a suite booked and these seem to be the better rooms, I was aware the location is remote which isn't an issue for us, as with 2 young boys, once we are in the resort we don't leave until the coach arrives to take us home - for us that's the whole point in going all inclusive.
The splash park has good reviews and that basically where we spend all day every day (and the playground).
The food I guess is my biggest concern, but after years of going AI i've got used to checking if the meat is properly cooked and the fact the it can get quite repetative and there isn't always a huge varierty - flies are obviously not ideal and after reading the reviews I will certainly be selective about what I eat.

Maybe i'm being too blasé about the whole thing and I should look into moving hotels - but i've never had to do it before and i'm not even sure if it is a possibility at this late stage - tell me your thoughts!!! Thanks

Go in with low expectations, then you're more likely to enjoy it! Depends how much you paid though. If it's going to feel like you've been ripped off, that would slightly ruin it for me.
Regarding the flies, do be careful. A colleague just came back from holiday and they all had D&V from the food. It was ridiculously hot though and I don't think buffets are a great idea in very hot weather with flies around!
If it's remote, does that mean no other option for food? If you're in a suite, can you have some meals in there? Take packaged food?
Breakfast probably safest meal, if you get there as soon as it's served.

Thank you. Yes luckily my expectations are never too high as I always have to go for one of the more budget options (this year still costing over £3k as first year we have had to go in school holidays!).
Unfortuantly I don't believe they do room service, its the buffet only and buying packaged food defeats the object of going all inclusive, but there is a supermarket 200m up the road apparently if I really do feel it's needed!!

You might want to drop the sexist ageist tropes.

Go with low expectations and if it's really that hideous you don't have to stay there all day, you can treat it as a base and go and find some nice beaches or villages to visit.

Totally agree!

meatbaseddessert · 03/08/2023 11:05

Looks like there's about 6 very recent bad reviews mainly involving pictures of white plastic sun beds that need a wipe, a not very clean bin and a greasy chip cooking area. Food hygiene can happen anywhere and you have the rock shoes for the sharp pool.

In one they admit they were in a group of 10 so sounds like all the adults posted a bad review.

I did find the hotels responses hilarious though. I love 'we are aware of the weak situation in the entertainment department'.

cestlavielife · 03/08/2023 11:07

Jelly fish in sea, hardly hotel fault
and no chicken nuggets
Tragic.
You knew you booked cheaper end so go with low expectations for food. Hopefully your kids eat fruit and will try other food if no nuggets? .

Batalax · 03/08/2023 11:11

If people have a good experience they don’t bother posting. It’s only a few bad ones.

I booked somewhere once then checked the reviews and was annoyed at myself for booking. We got there and it was fab. Nothing wrong at all. Some people have 5 expectations on a 2 budget.

Let us know how you get on.

Batalax · 03/08/2023 11:12

The * I put in just bolded the middle bit 😂

I quite agree, OP lost me at that.

Willie17 · 03/08/2023 11:23

Apologies everyone I have offended with the "Karen" comment, I really didn't mean it to be offensive to anyone. It's not a term I know much about so admittedly shouldn't have used it, it's just something i've heard being used more recently and thought it was a commonly used phrase do describe over enthusiasmto a situation. I'm not particulaly social media savy and am just having a bit of a flap about the whole holiday situation.

No worries, op. Graciously handled.

itsamedicalmystery · 03/08/2023 11:33

Just go and see for yourself. I booked the Hotel Binimar in Menorca one year. All was fine, reviews were great...until the school holidays kicked in and honestly the reviews were dire. I think even Jeremy Kyle was mentioned a few time. I got in such a fuss about it that I tried to cancel but I would have lost my money.
So, off we went...and enjoyed it so much we booked again for the following year. Yes it was full of people who were enjoying the all inclusive a little too much, but I found it part of the entertainment!
So, just go. If you really need chicken nuggets you might have to eat out. And there will be plenty of sun beds.
Post us an update to let us know how it goes please - and have fun!

Agreed, don't stress about it OP.

Sounds like it was just an unlucky couple of weeks of reviews. If the majority of reviews are positive then don't be disheartened.

ReeseWitherfork · 03/08/2023 11:44

I’d be panicking too OP, but actually there’s a couple of good reviews in there too so it can’t be all bad. And the previous reviews look OK, plus one person saying they have just been there for the 8th year in a row. If the food and food hygiene are as awful as people have said, just see if you can stretch to some meals out. Obviously I don’t know your financial situation but I’d personally prefer to bite the bullet and spend the extra money in order to save myself the misery. The money will be long forgotten (even if it’s on a credit card that you have to pay back!) but the memories and/or the sting of a bad holiday will last longer.

(I hate the term Karen but even I can see why you’ve used it, and you’ve apologised, not sure what else you can do.)

littleripper · 03/08/2023 12:01

Stopped reading when you used the misogynistic term 'Karen'

Men are far more likely to complain aggressively according to studies. What is your special name for them?

OP has apologised, we’ve all moved on.

RTFT and stop piling on.

FayCarew · 03/08/2023 12:14

@CherryMaDeara , many reading the OP will be too shocked to read any further. I appreciate that there was an apology but how on earth can someone not be aware that the term 'Karen' is offensive? There are probably loads of MNers who are actually called Karen.

So this! Half the negative reviews are men ffs.

Maireas · 03/08/2023 12:17

I think your use of "Karen" is detailing this a bit, OP. Could you ask MNHQ to edit it out, or maybe you could rewrite your original post?
I know you've apologised, but people possibly haven't seen that.

This - ever wondered why there's a special word for middle-aged women who complain, but none for the men who do?
