I booked our family holiday months ago with Jet2, but in the last couple of weeks lots of negative reviews have come about for this hotel and i'm not sure what to do about it!
Have a read for yourself - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g775984-d287893-Reviews-Balansat_Resort-Port_de_Sant_Miguel_Ibiza_Balearic_Islands.html#/media/287893/703086319:p/?albumid=101&type=2&category=101

I know reviews can be left by overdramatic Karen's and to be honest lots of the feedback sounds like pretty normal stuff to expect when you book a fairly budget all inclusive family resort and some people just expect too much - what do you think?

Even before booking I read about the sharp pool bottoms, so i've got the boys (5yrs and 3yrs) water shoes, we have a suite booked and these seem to be the better rooms, I was aware the location is remote which isn't an issue for us, as with 2 young boys, once we are in the resort we don't leave until the coach arrives to take us home - for us that's the whole point in going all inclusive.
The splash park has good reviews and that basically where we spend all day every day (and the playground).
The food I guess is my biggest concern, but after years of going AI i've got used to checking if the meat is properly cooked and the fact the it can get quite repetative and there isn't always a huge varierty - flies are obviously not ideal and after reading the reviews I will certainly be selective about what I eat.

Maybe i'm being too blasé about the whole thing and I should look into moving hotels - but i've never had to do it before and i'm not even sure if it is a possibility at this late stage - tell me your thoughts!!! Thanks

As usual, white women on MN are up in arms about ‘Karen’ but when there’s racism against black and other minority people on MN, many are so silent, with tumbleweed blowing through the threads.

Im not white. Why do you assume my race? What it got to do with disliking bigotry?

OP puts a comment that has offended people. OP is deemed terrible for doing this. OP apologised. Yet people still pile on. Rip them a new one. Continue to patronise and shirick them yet continue to think the problem lies with the OP.
Do people just not accept apologies now cos it doesn't fit their agenda?

I hope you have a lovely holiday OP.

Exactly. 120 comments. 20 relevant to the question at hand. 100 laying into her of which most are post her apology (which is heartfelt and brutally honest). There's no need to jump on the offence bandwagon when there already a noisy bunch of flag wavers on there already.

Redavocadoes · 04/08/2023 07:25

The recent reviews are terrible ...I just read a few and they don't sound like unreasonable people, they have talked about the positive points. Carolyn G's July review raises some serious issues about good hygiene and the fire alarms being disconnected, and the hotels response is to say that they regret that she booked with them?!
Reviews mention a restaurant opposite, the Spar, and a self catering option....can you raise it with Jet2 and request to switch to self catering?

Mumof1andacat · 04/08/2023 07:28

Some people are never happy unless they are complaining.

MissedItByThisMuch · 04/08/2023 07:43

FFS the OP apologised after the first person commented. The continued nasty pile-on despite that is far more distasteful than the original word used.

OP looks like the first two reviews are from the same family and the next few are all from another (large) group so I’d take them with a grain of salt. Hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

UndercoverCop · 04/08/2023 07:49

I find some of the complaints a bit odd, entertainment mediocre well come on what do you expect? It's a budget AI not the West end. No children's corner in the buffet restaurant I don't really know what this means children eat food there is food in a buffet restaurant and if they break there wasn't a pile of nuggets and turkey twizzlers well that's because lots of children just eat proper food especially in other countries, that's now about their own children and their choice to feed them junk.
Ok broken AC would be annoying but did they complain and if so how did the hotel resolve it, that's the important bit.
Also IME if you book with over of the cheap tour operators Jet2 easyJet etc you will be out in the oldest rooms in a resort, it's why it's cheaper, that either matters to you or it doesn't. It does matter to me so we tend to book direct and we usually book a two bed suite. It costs a lot more than 3k in the summer holidays. Before we had DS I was less bothered about the accommodation and we'd sometimes go high end and sometimes cheap and cheerful, fun was had at both.
Go enjoy yourself OP. Some people will always find something to complain about.

Also not sure why this thread has been derailed, the OP apologised gracefully for her use of a term she didn't really understand.

Port of san Miguel area of Ibiza is lovely.

So we stayed at hotel cartago. Basic but perfect for us. The sister hotel was crazy busy so I liked the quiet square pool to keep a close of on the kids.

You can get the water taxi to benneras beach on a Sunday to watch the sunset and the drumming and the small market- honestly it was magic. Taxi is about 10 mins and gets busy.

The beach is close by and perfect waters for a pedalo etc. clear water.

A few restaurants close by.

The caves are also a good excursion.... probably not for younger. I felt claustrophobic and just wanted to be in the sun 😂 but the views on the mountain were amazing.

It's a great location. Quiet and nice things to do.

You're in the right location, hopefully the hotel won't be as bad as some reviews say. There are also good ones!

chopc · 04/08/2023 08:41

I think it will be fine @Willie17 . All inclusive in Europe are generally not the best in terms of food options (although we went to a four star AI in Bodrum which was fantastic.

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 04/08/2023 09:59

After reading the reviews I think it sounds awful. Too many people saying same thing about food hygiene so I’m guessing this is a genuine problem and not one I would be prepared to put up with. I would definitely try and change if it were me!

There is. Its "Gammon".

Ah fair enough - but men are far rarely targeted far more rarely and Karen is still misogynist, in that it's used by misogynists who think they're progressive to stop women talking about things the fauxgressives don't want them talking about.

WinterDeWinter · 04/08/2023 13:27

So many typos sorry - distracted mid-flow!

Maddy70 · 04/08/2023 14:30

After the barbie film I have heard the term "ken" being used for men

Ffs. OP apologised profusely and genuinely very early in the thread. Well done for being the hundredth person to not bother reading anything past her OP before laying into her.

Gosh, it's so bloody boring. It takes fuck all effort to sit behind a screen and berate a stranger for using a naughty word. Call yourselves feminists? You're just lazy and over privileged.

You sound very angry. I don't know why you're so invested in the Karengate?

Anyway OP hope you enjoy your holiday and no one gets food poisoning.

She's right. It's bloody boring when every update to this thread is people saying they're not going to read it due to the Karen usage 🙄

LittleGreenDuck · 04/08/2023 19:00

We stayed at the Balansat last year. We only had breakfast at the hotel but it was fine, usual AI fare. Pool was great, though I don't recall a splash park. Everything was clean and the staff helpful. Our only issue is that we were in the room directly over the Irish bar which was loud VERY late.

The area is quite remote, but there are restaurants and a bus to San Antonio and Ibiza Town. I'd recommend the fish restaurant overlooking the beach, though you may need to book, especially on BBQ night. Also a land train up to Portinax which is beautiful. The beach at Balansat is lovely. Yes, there are jellyfish but they're fun to watch and didn't bother us.

Have a brilliant holiday OP.

Mumsnet classic there. 'You sound angry.' Did you not fancy following it up with a head tilt? 😆
