Negative reviews for our hotel 10 days before daparture!!

Willie17 · 03/08/2023 10:23

I booked our family holiday months ago with Jet2, but in the last couple of weeks lots of negative reviews have come about for this hotel and i'm not sure what to do about it!
Have a read for yourself - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g775984-d287893-Reviews-Balansat_Resort-Port_de_Sant_Miguel_Ibiza_Balearic_Islands.html#/media/287893/703086319:p/?albumid=101&type=2&category=101

I know reviews can be left by overdramatic Karen's and to be honest lots of the feedback sounds like pretty normal stuff to expect when you book a fairly budget all inclusive family resort and some people just expect too much - what do you think?

Even before booking I read about the sharp pool bottoms, so i've got the boys (5yrs and 3yrs) water shoes, we have a suite booked and these seem to be the better rooms, I was aware the location is remote which isn't an issue for us, as with 2 young boys, once we are in the resort we don't leave until the coach arrives to take us home - for us that's the whole point in going all inclusive.
The splash park has good reviews and that basically where we spend all day every day (and the playground).
The food I guess is my biggest concern, but after years of going AI i've got used to checking if the meat is properly cooked and the fact the it can get quite repetative and there isn't always a huge varierty - flies are obviously not ideal and after reading the reviews I will certainly be selective about what I eat.

Maybe i'm being too blasé about the whole thing and I should look into moving hotels - but i've never had to do it before and i'm not even sure if it is a possibility at this late stage - tell me your thoughts!!! Thanks

@CherryMaDeara , many reading the OP will be too shocked to read any further. I appreciate that there was an apology but how on earth can someone not be aware that the term 'Karen' is offensive? There are probably loads of MNers who are actually called Karen.

Agree with You.

Where you been OP, under a rock??!!

SmartHome · 03/08/2023 14:04

But I see you have aknowledged/apologised for the obnoxious term so, fair play.

I'd take your driving licence with you so if worse comes to worse you can just use it as a base and go off and explore Ibiza.

@WinterDeWinter not sure but I think 'gammon' is the name given to white men who complain.

In my mind gammon is more referring to a bloke who comes up with racist, generally xenophobic remarks and "bantz", not really used about being a complainer. Men are allowed to complain as loudly, aggressively and unreasonably as they like in our society so there isn't an insulting name for those who do, and women are expected to just STFU unless said men want to shag them.

If they’re too shocked to read any further than the OP’s opening post, then how does the pile on help them?

User165753 · 03/08/2023 15:14

OP clearly knew what she was posting.

IncognitoMam · 03/08/2023 15:21

I was chatting to a woman at a pub gig and she was embarrassed to tell me her name. You can guess what it was. I said it's disgusting and I hate the term. Should actually be illegal. I feel that strongly about it.
And no I don't think OP was so innocent 🙄

FayCarew · 03/08/2023 15:24

@CherryMaDeara , because they won't have seen the apology or your post telling them to RTFT.

AllOfThemWitches · 03/08/2023 15:33

Meanwhile irl nobody really gives a massive shit about people using 'karen' to describe both women and men who complain just for the sake of it. And it IS mostly those from a particular age group.

FayCarew · 03/08/2023 15:36

@AllOfThemWitches , thank you for your insight into what people in real life consider offensive. Your extensive research didn't include me.
The term is offensive, misogynist and ageist.

Chequeredred · 03/08/2023 15:37

‘Overdramatic Karen’

sexist and ageist - how awful!

Obviously you don't

No, most peoples experiences are entirely different to what you read on here. I don't even use the term because it's unoriginal but if I hear someone else use it, I don't start crying. If certain people weren't so fucking rude and nasty to others for no reason, it wouldn't be 'a thing.'

Maddy70 · 03/08/2023 15:39

Could posters be helpful instead of piling on the op she has apologised. There are lots of terms that are offensive. If you are offended my the term Karen maybe it hits a nerve!

MsFogi · 03/08/2023 15:40

I stopped reading when you used the misogynistic 'Karen' term.

SmartHome · 03/08/2023 15:40

I've literally never seen or heard any man, IRL or online, being called a Karen. It's exclusively used for women, and mainly women over 30.

Oh well, rest assured men in that age group can be equally dickish for the sake of swinging their balls about and letting the little people know who has the power.

SmartHome · 03/08/2023 15:47

what, equally dickish as all the women over 30?

You realise that that that behaviour is a personality type, not something that magically happense to everyone as they turn 30 right?

Seeingadistance · 03/08/2023 15:49

Sameold23 · 03/08/2023 10:52

overdramatic Karen's

You might want to drop the sexist ageist tropes.

I agree.

Newgirls · 03/08/2023 15:52

Ibiza is a lovely place so even if the hotel is amazing please rent a car for a few days and explore.

I reckon the people who moan about hotels are the ones who never leave them so slightly lose the plot.

starrynight19 · 03/08/2023 15:57

I would agree that it’s likely that group of ten all posted so that looks worse. As long as your boys aren’t expecting chicken nuggets alone I’m sure they will find something to enjoy. Also good to get to the buffet when they first open it re flies.

reducemug · 03/08/2023 16:21

Funny how everyone is up in arms about the term Karen but the term Wendy has been used on mumsnet for years and years.

Hope you have a decent holiday OP.

I'm not aware of the use of the name Wendy. How is it used?

GettingStuffed · 03/08/2023 16:30

Bah I have a cousin called Karen who is such a Karen. They could have named it after her.

FayCarew · 03/08/2023 16:34

@reducemug , Wendy isn't offensive or ageist though.
@Seeingadistance , IIRC a Wendy is a friend you make and when you introduce her to an existing friend of yours, Wendy and your friend hit it off and you get dropped.
