Negative reviews for our hotel 10 days before daparture!!

I booked our family holiday months ago with Jet2, but in the last couple of weeks lots of negative reviews have come about for this hotel and i'm not sure what to do about it!

I know reviews can be left by overdramatic Karen's and to be honest lots of the feedback sounds like pretty normal stuff to expect when you book a fairly budget all inclusive family resort and some people just expect too much - what do you think?

Even before booking I read about the sharp pool bottoms, so i've got the boys (5yrs and 3yrs) water shoes, we have a suite booked and these seem to be the better rooms, I was aware the location is remote which isn't an issue for us, as with 2 young boys, once we are in the resort we don't leave until the coach arrives to take us home - for us that's the whole point in going all inclusive.
The splash park has good reviews and that basically where we spend all day every day (and the playground).
The food I guess is my biggest concern, but after years of going AI i've got used to checking if the meat is properly cooked and the fact the it can get quite repetative and there isn't always a huge varierty - flies are obviously not ideal and after reading the reviews I will certainly be selective about what I eat.

Maybe i'm being too blasé about the whole thing and I should look into moving hotels - but i've never had to do it before and i'm not even sure if it is a possibility at this late stage - tell me your thoughts!!! Thanks

Doesn't even matter if its used in the "correct" way. It' clearly an insult and its clearly lots of peoples' name.

I agree with others, discount all 1 and 5 star reviews. Read the ones in the middle, they are most likely to be reasonable. Some people are determined to complain, ignore them.

Op didn't invent the term 'Karen'. Give her a break. She's apologised. It's likely we've all used the wrong word and caused offence at some point in our lives, unintentionally.
Back to the point of the thread everyone.

Well I definitely wouldn't eat there. It's a very cheap hotel so that would ring alarm bells when booking. I know it's difficult being on a tight budget but I would book something nicer for a shorter time.

The AC not working would tip me over the edge but the food can be avoided and it sounds like the surrounding area and beach is nice.

Going off at a slight tangent, is it normal for the bottom of pools at hotels abroad to be covered with sharp stones etc, so you have to wear beach shoes in them ?

When I first read the OP, I didn't read further than the 'Karen's', because I was shocked. As I scrolled down to make a post complaining about the use of the sexist and ageist term, I saw one post expressing a similar view. I didn't see the apology. I certainly wouldn't have seen a post a few pages in suggesting that posters should RTFT.

That. All those 1* reviews were posted at pretty much the same time. It's likely to be the large group who've wound each other up into posting a review.

I'd ignore that batch and go with the rest of the reviews.

I don't see this. I see MN up in arms about any word/comment that can be remotely offensive to ANYONE, black, white, old, young, male, female.

I find it all quite bizarre, unless it is an actually being used in a derogatory way of course, but most of the time it's a perfectly innocent remark, with someone desperate to twist it into something it isn't.

Or worse, denying blatant racism. Lazy feminism here. It's easy to be a privileged white woman whining about 'Karen.'

The only correct way to use the name Karen is in respect of someone who has it as their given name .

If it helps OP, that part of the island is the nicest in my opinion and eating out is not expensive round there if you had to . It may be worth a call to Jet2 if you're really worried to check if you could change to another hotel in the area - I've always found their customer service to be really good. I've been to the Portinatx Beach Club Hotel 3 times now and love it but it gets mixed reviews and I would say that I have fairly high standards.

I think it's a fairly safe bet that the majority of those whinging about 'Karen' are white women with nothing more important to worry about.

And honestly, if I ever become the kind of dickhead who talks to people like shit when i don't get my own way, I deserve to be insulted really.

OP puts a comment that has offended people. OP is deemed terrible for doing this. OP apologised. Yet people still pile on. Rip them a new one. Continue to patronise and shirick them yet continue to think the problem lies with the OP.
Do people just not accept apologies now cos it doesn't fit their agenda?
