Negative reviews for our hotel 10 days before daparture!!

Willie17 · 03/08/2023 10:23

I booked our family holiday months ago with Jet2, but in the last couple of weeks lots of negative reviews have come about for this hotel and i'm not sure what to do about it!
Have a read for yourself - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g775984-d287893-Reviews-Balansat_Resort-Port_de_Sant_Miguel_Ibiza_Balearic_Islands.html#/media/287893/703086319:p/?albumid=101&type=2&category=101

I know reviews can be left by overdramatic Karen's and to be honest lots of the feedback sounds like pretty normal stuff to expect when you book a fairly budget all inclusive family resort and some people just expect too much - what do you think?

Even before booking I read about the sharp pool bottoms, so i've got the boys (5yrs and 3yrs) water shoes, we have a suite booked and these seem to be the better rooms, I was aware the location is remote which isn't an issue for us, as with 2 young boys, once we are in the resort we don't leave until the coach arrives to take us home - for us that's the whole point in going all inclusive.
The splash park has good reviews and that basically where we spend all day every day (and the playground).
The food I guess is my biggest concern, but after years of going AI i've got used to checking if the meat is properly cooked and the fact the it can get quite repetative and there isn't always a huge varierty - flies are obviously not ideal and after reading the reviews I will certainly be selective about what I eat.

Maybe i'm being too blasé about the whole thing and I should look into moving hotels - but i've never had to do it before and i'm not even sure if it is a possibility at this late stage - tell me your thoughts!!! Thanks

Thank you to those that who have taken the time to read the comments and my apology for my unintentional ignorance!
Thank you to those who have helpfully shared there own experiences and rightly pointed out that for every negative experience there is hopefully 100 positive ones that just haven't been spoken about. Luckily my boys are pretty good with food, so they certainly won't be starving and I will definatly consider a couple of meals out if I really am dubious about any of the foods on offer due to sanitary reasons.
Think i'll also carry a pack of baby wipes around with me just incase anything needs a scrub down!!

Yes please dp

RoseBucket · 03/08/2023 12:34

One of the reviews complains about jelly fish in the sea 🤣

That aside it just sounds like a Butlins on the beach I think you have to make the best of it. The food poisoning comment is a worry but it might be one cocktail to many.

The glee for chicken nuggets probably gives you an idea of the standard, go abroad but want American/British fast food. Bonkers.

Reported for the nasty Karen comment

MumblesParty · 03/08/2023 13:01

Go with low expectations. It’ll probably be fine. You’ll lose your money if you cancel anyway.

I think the problem with reviews is that you don’t get a fully balanced view. I’ve only ever left reviews of places that I felt were absolutely amazingly brilliant, and places that were really awful. But the vast majority of places I’ve been have been fine - not good or bad enough to warrant me taking time to review them - so I don’t bother. Those are the reviews you generally won’t see, because most people can’t be bothered to leave a review saying “this place was pretty good, couple of minor issues but basically fine, we had fun”.

I would go along, and if the food looks unappetising then go to the local restaurants instead.

Apologies everyone I have offended with the "Karen" comment, I really didn't mean it to be offensive to anyone. It's not a term I know much about so admittedly shouldn't have used it, it's just something i've heard being used more recently and thought it was a commonly used phrase do describe over enthusiasmto a situation. I'm not particulaly social media savy and am just having a bit of a flap about the whole holiday situation.

Fair enough OP, I hope you get sorted. 😊

User165753 · 03/08/2023 13:07

Hopefully you will get the holiday you deserve

Hilarious not a term you know much about but used it anyway, right sure you don't

No worries.

Best regards

The resort itself is really nice, on the quiet side of the island. Gorgeous views there. I stayed there years ago (different hotel) and I remember there being a supermarket and a couple of restaurants nearby. So even if the food is rubbish you have some options. Have a lovely time. Ibiza is amazing.

fullbloom87 · 03/08/2023 13:23

@WinterDeWinter not sure but I think 'gammon' is the name given to white men who complain.

Maddy70 · 03/08/2023 13:25

One of my best holidays was featured the day before on holidays from hell the reviews were dreadful. It was one of the best holidays we had.

Go with an open mind. And low expectations

DelilahBucket · 03/08/2023 13:26

Those reviews are no different to last year's, so I don't think it's a case of it's suddenly bad, it hasn't changed.
With the price you've paid and the previous reviews last year, I would go in with low expectations and it can only get better from there.

FirstDayOfHoliyays · 03/08/2023 13:39

Karens indeed. That aside, it looks as though the chef is too busy fucking about with courgettes to bother with basic food hygiene.

Get to the buffet early when they've just put it out, that's what we did in Egypt otherwise the food was covered in fly's.
Apart from the food you'll be fine

This - ever wondered why there's a special word for middle-aged women who complain, but none for the men who do?

There is one you could use - dick!!

I was just about to post the exact same thing!

It's a pity this casual misogyny is becoming so commonplace and acceptable. There does seem to be a lot of hate directed at middle aged women that (quite rightly) wouldn't be tolerated if directed at any other protected group.

Treesinmygarden · 03/08/2023 13:54

OK - we GET it!!! The OP has apologised - just let it go will you!

It is generally used as a term to sneer at and silence any older woman who has the temerity to stand up for herself. Glad you have acknowledged it isn't nice and won't be using it again.

PinkPondQueen · 03/08/2023 13:58

Tripadvisor is like my bible. But what you should be doing is reviewing the reviewers. E.g. I never take on board anything someone who has only ever put 1 review on has to say!

Silvers11 · 03/08/2023 13:58

@Willie17

At least 2 of those negative posts refer to being in a group of 10 - I suspect that everyone of those recent bad reviews were from different people in that one Group.

Lots of other reasonable/good posts. Of course the group of 10 may be partly correct, but they may also be just making a fuss about very little and over-egging the overall bad review?

SmartHome · 03/08/2023 14:00

I think your assumption that the negative review are only left by 'Karens' is going to come back and bit you. You're on a budget and have had to compromise so you'll havr to just get on with it as presumably it's too late to cancel.
