Negative reviews for our hotel 10 days before daparture!!

Willie17 · 03/08/2023 10:23

I booked our family holiday months ago with Jet2, but in the last couple of weeks lots of negative reviews have come about for this hotel and i'm not sure what to do about it!
Have a read for yourself - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g775984-d287893-Reviews-Balansat_Resort-Port_de_Sant_Miguel_Ibiza_Balearic_Islands.html#/media/287893/703086319:p/?albumid=101&type=2&category=101

I know reviews can be left by overdramatic Karen's and to be honest lots of the feedback sounds like pretty normal stuff to expect when you book a fairly budget all inclusive family resort and some people just expect too much - what do you think?

Even before booking I read about the sharp pool bottoms, so i've got the boys (5yrs and 3yrs) water shoes, we have a suite booked and these seem to be the better rooms, I was aware the location is remote which isn't an issue for us, as with 2 young boys, once we are in the resort we don't leave until the coach arrives to take us home - for us that's the whole point in going all inclusive.
The splash park has good reviews and that basically where we spend all day every day (and the playground).
The food I guess is my biggest concern, but after years of going AI i've got used to checking if the meat is properly cooked and the fact the it can get quite repetative and there isn't always a huge varierty - flies are obviously not ideal and after reading the reviews I will certainly be selective about what I eat.

Maybe i'm being too blasé about the whole thing and I should look into moving hotels - but i've never had to do it before and i'm not even sure if it is a possibility at this late stage - tell me your thoughts!!! Thanks

What do pp want the op to do when she has apologised ?

Bleachblock · 03/08/2023 16:39

getting the thread back on track OP I’ve been to that resort (not that hotel). Yes it’s remote, the beach is nice and there are lovely views at the beach. Couple of restaurants and shops by the beach if you need a wander. Apart from that there’s not much there. We stayed in the huge then AI hotel that’s built into the cliff side. Now that was a shit hole.

ImABlueyMum · 03/08/2023 16:43

Stopped reading when you used the term Karen.

Walkingtheplank · 03/08/2023 16:52

SeatonCarew · 03/08/2023 11:16

I quite agree, OP lost me at that.

Me too.

Ilovelurchers · 03/08/2023 16:58

Those of you who stopped reading when you read the word Karen because you were "too shocked" - how on earth do you navigate your way through a world in which so many genuinely shocking and terrible things happen?

I don't like the term either, but it is very, very commonly used, so you must hear/read it quite often surely? Does it always shock you to such a great extent?

(Obviously you can't answer because you stopped reading, but.....)

I myself am shocked (tho not so much I have to stop reading) by those of you who reckon she ought to have really low expectations, accept flies on the food etc, because she only paid £3000 for the holiday. Only £3000! I have never paid anything like that for a holiday in my life, and if I did I would expect the flies on the food to be made of solid gold, and never to be more than an arm's reach away from a bowl of freshly cooked chicken nuggets wherever I went in the resort.....

None of this helps the OP of course. OP, I think this cluster of reviews was possibly written by the same person, or at least people from the same group - they are all very similar. So I think you are probably fine .....

Apologies everyone I have offended with the "Karen" comment, I really didn't mean it to be offensive to anyone. It's not a term I know much about so admittedly shouldn't have used it, it's just something i've heard being used more recently and thought it was a commonly used phrase do describe over enthusiasmto a situation. I'm not particulaly social media savy and am just having a bit of a flap about the whole holiday situation.

How could it not be offensive. Imagine using your own name in its place.

This - ever wondered why there's a special word for middle-aged women who complain, but none for the men who do?

There is. Its "Gammon".

KnickerlessParsons · 03/08/2023 17:10

no chicken nuggets. 😁

You might want to drop the sexist ageist tropes.

Or if you are going to use them at least learn when it's appropriate to use an apostrophe.

Beeinalily · 03/08/2023 17:26

Oh for goodness sake, Karens, Wendys, Mary-Sues... If you're determined to be offended you'll find something! I hope that you and yours have a lovely holiday OP, and don't worry about the jellyfish, I bet they're much kinder than many of the posters on here!

Lykia · 03/08/2023 17:27

@Willie17 I noticed quite a few of the comments are from people with just 1 contribution. Sometimes. Not always, these people have an axe to grind.

Look at the overall traveller rating bar charge and the amount of excellent compared to terrible.

You've paid now go and enjoy yourself, I'm sure no matter what your boys will love it.

Lykia · 03/08/2023 17:28

Bar chart not bar change.

Looks like there's about 6 very recent bad reviews mainly involving pictures of white plastic sun beds that need a wipe, a not very clean bin and a greasy chip cooking area. Food hygiene can happen anywhere and you have the rock shoes for the sharp pool.

In one they admit they were in a group of 10 so sounds like all the adults posted a bad review.

I did find the hotels responses hilarious though. I love 'we are aware of the weak situation in the entertainment department'.

That's was my thought .

Either there was a very poor week in July where several people noted the same issues or there are multiple reviews from the one family.

PoseyFlump · 03/08/2023 17:38

This thread is hilarious! Massive own goal 😂

I know a few Karens, one is an absolute bitch but this meme thing is toxic, especially when it's repeated by women.

Back to the thread OP, make the best of your holiday and have a great time.

sonjadog · 03/08/2023 17:39

I think with Tripadvisor you have to go for the majority rather than focusing on particular reviews. You don't know what was their motivation behind the review. Maybe they had a particular axe to grind? Maybe they had unrealistic expectations? Some people do seem to look for things to be dissatisfied about in life while others focus on the positive. So don't worry, go with an open mind, and enjoy what you are offered. If it does turn out poor, then you are in a beautiful place and can look for places outside your hotel to enjoy during the days.

Meanwhile irl nobody really gives a massive shit about people using 'karen' to describe both women and men who complain just for the sake of it. And it IS mostly those from a particular age group.

Well people that I know IRL certainly do give a shit about this - and not just the ones called Karen.

I have never seen or heard a man being referred to as a 'Karen'.

Batalax · 03/08/2023 18:47

Oh fgs, what a load of crap about Karen. I’m not sure I’d use it in the correct way either, being in that age bracket and not particularly up to date with current lingo. I don’t think she actually meant just women any way. I just read it as moaning about whingy people.

Anyway, she’s apologised so answer the actual op.

You’re going on holiday, nothing is perfect. Have a bit of gratitude

CellophaneFlower · 03/08/2023 18:49

Ignore the hate OP, you've apologised and I totally get you didn't understand how offensive the word is to some.

Personally, even if my name was Karen, I'm not sure I'd be offended. It's just a name that somebody else chose after all. I'm from Essex and was never offended by the Essex girl jokes that went around in the 90's. They didn't apply to me, so didn't bother me.

Hope you have a lovely holiday and the bad reviews have been exaggerated!

Maireas · 03/08/2023 18:50

When you challenge someone's use of a term, it's not "hate".
There's no hate on here.
