Offers for 2025

ontheturn · 04/11/2024 16:15

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

Does anyone have any experience of Sheffield and Nottingham Universities? My DD has applied for Law and they're the ones she really wants. Her application has only been in a week and she has other offers but it's those ones that she wants to hear from.

Ds heard back from both of those within a week but for engineering.

RayonSunrise · 08/12/2024 22:17

@Edinaandpatsyrule They do! Actually a little envious of them getting the opportunity to study such an interesting mix. DD wants to combine a language, film/visual arts, anthropology and marketing - she's getting really excited about it!

My dd is in her third year doing MLibArts and has really enjoyed it.

I remember older dc not getting offers from Edinburgh until March and their friends in some cases not getting them until May, so entirely normal and silence means nothing either way.

My dc now has an offer from Bristol and hasn't heard from anywhere else, though they've still left a space blank on UCAS, it will probably be Edinburgh that takes that slot.

This was us last year so may help!
DD had three A stars in hand, applied for Sociology to Cambridge (HSPS). Durham, Bath, Glasgow and very last minute to LSE. 'Typical offer's were highest for C/LSE at A stars AA to AAB (the rest), though her actual offers would be unconditional.
Glasgow offered within 24 hours. Durham a month later. Cambridge interview but no offer, Bath offered in March (six months after applying!!!), LSE rejection in April.
C the course is one of the most competitive. LSE it's more the university is very hard to get in to - it's very well known for the subject but Math/Economics/Law are more popular.
We were quite surprised at Bath taking so long. It's not the most popular course, she had grades in hand well above requirements and even with waiting for equal consideration deadline they took their time. It put her off in the end and she chose Durham as they offered relatively quickly which made her feel wanted (and she liked it on visiting).
For any potential Durham students: College allocation is a weird thing there - I think they are changing the system this year. Be aware a confirmation of college is NOT an offer of accommodation- you must apply for that separately. A few kids misunderstood this, missed the email and therefore did not get accommodated at a college.

mondaytosunday · 09/12/2024 12:38

And to add as I know it's a decision factor; the oft reported housing crisis at Durham is no more. My DD has signed with four others in a very well located house at for £169/week plus bills which is very reasonable for the location, though I'd say £180 is more typical.

DS1 has applied to Oxford, Manchester, York, Warwick and St Andrews to do Maths. He has offers from Manchester (AA A) and York (AAA or possibly AAB) He took the Maths A level exams at the end of year 12 and will do Further Maths and 2 other A levels so already has an A in hand, so these offers sound high to me but are hopefully quite achievable for him. However, he doesn't think the MAT test for Oxford went well - he found the timing very difficult (the format seems very different from GCSE and A level exams) but I believe he's still waiting to hear whether he will get an interview. I am hoping that he will tell me as soon has he hears anything but am trying hard to resist grilling him on it, as I don't want to make him feel more stressed, but those Manchester/York offers do make me feel less anxious.

Edited

I posted on 25 November that DS1 has applied to Oxford, Manchester, York, Warwick and St Andrews to do Maths, and has conditional offers from Manchester and York. Oxford was an open application, not college specific.

Update: He now has an online interview for Oxford (Pembroke College), at the end of term.

If he continues his application for Warwick, he would still have to take the TMUA test at the January sitting, so I don't think he expects an offer/decision from Warwick (if at all) until later, and apparently St Andrews responds later too. My interpretation is that Russell Group universities competing with Oxford and Cambridge have different approaches to recruiting such applicants.

elkiedee · 09/12/2024 20:54

After posting, I got into a panic about registering for TMUA in January. I asked DS1, and apparently he already has a contextual offer for Warwick - grades asked for are quite similar to those for Manchester and York though he wasn't completely sure, but more importantly, he doesn't have to take another exam.

I'm surprised by the contextual offer - I think it must be down to our postcode and the school where he did his GCSEs - they did very well by him and a number of his friends and he said he had really good Maths teachers, but we and our local comprehensive school are in an area with an odd mixture of deprivation and rather uneven gentrification, and after GCSE students have to travel to the west (posh side) of the borough or to other boroughs for A levels or other continuing education.

RayonSunrise · 09/12/2024 22:18

@mondaytosunday Thanks for that post, very interesting! DD really liked Durham and has her fingers crossed for an offer, but they're still the only uni not to have come back to her yet.

HebeJeeby · 10/12/2024 16:05

DD submitted her UCAS application last night and has had an offer from Essex this afternoon. She wants to do English and Creative writing and has been given the standard offer of BBC. This is her insurance choice but actually I think she would be very happy to go there, we absolutely loved everything about Essex at the open day. She’s absolutely buzzing to have received an offer, it’s really boosted her self-confidence which is lovely to see.

woolleybear · 12/12/2024 11:02

Last offer in for dc, Bath, AAB or A*AC, as its the same as their top choice that's pretty much their decisions made. I'm trying to persuade them to postpone pressing the accept button until they have been to offer holder days in Feb but I strongly anticipate they won't listen!

motheronthedancefloor · 12/12/2024 18:52

DD is being driven nuts by the fact 'everyone' she knows has had offers. She has an interview in January at one university but I know other universities hold applications until after the UCAS deadline. Her friends are applyiing for different courses and I try to explain that to her but she's anxious.

Lbet · 13/12/2024 06:54

As I said I would come back to you all when my daughters offers start coming in. A reminder she is on a gap year so has her grades to hand. We spent a fortune on getting remarks where she was just one grade off one of her subjects but the grade stayed the same. It seems that doesn’t matter because the offers are coming in. Her grades were CCC but she us still getting offers where entry grades are higher.
she is taking up the offer for Liverpool Hope which was top of her list.
She is very happy the way things have worked out. She has a Christmas job at M&S and off to camp America in the summer.

Itsmyluckyegg · 13/12/2024 07:07

DD college are not sending applications until the new year, starting to think this is pretty poor knowing lots of others have offers.

She is looking at paramedic practice.

Temporaryanonymity · 13/12/2024 15:05

I'd be very concerned by this. My son's school have been actively encouraging students to get their applications in as early as possible.

Itsmyluckyegg · 13/12/2024 18:26

I have queried this, they have said the deadline is the end of Jan and UCAS will treat all applications equally if they are received by then. I have told DD to make sure hers is ready to submit asap.

My sons school are encouraging students to get their applications in now - but this is only so that the school can review and submit it and get it out of the way so students can focus on their a levels and January mocks.

It's nothing to do with UCAS as people applying before the end Jan deadline won't be disadvantaged- there is 'equal consideration' in place until that deadline.

Easipeelerie · 14/12/2024 11:04

DD’s offers:

MMU: Politics 104 points
Sheffield: Politics AAB or ABB if she firms them
Liverpool: Sociology and Politics ABB
Leeds: Politics AAB but could be lower if she gets accepted to Access to Leeds and firms them

Manchester: Politics and Sociology - not heard yet.

Is it likely to be January now before any more offers are made? I'm assuming admissions departments are now closed for the Christmas break?

DD had an offer today from St Andrews.
I imagine quite a few universities are using the time between students going home for Christmas and the start of the staff holidays to get a few offers out.

Thanks for your reply. DC waiting for one particular offer so maybe there's hope this side of the new year! Well done to your DD.

thepurplepenguin · 16/12/2024 18:36

DD had an offer from Royal Holloway today (although higher than the standard offer and it was supposed to be her insurance choice!) so some admissions teams are definitely still working.

FloralGums · 16/12/2024 20:01

She’s just told me she got another this evening- KCL. Seems there is a definite flurry before Xmas.
Fingers crossed for lots more Xmas gifts from UCAS for everyone waiting.

WhatTheKey · 16/12/2024 20:57

DS got his first response today- rejection from Sheffield. He has taken a few years out so has his A Level results in hand, so this is really disappointing. His PS was good, so I don't know if some unis don't like students to take so much time between school and uni..? He's feeling quite dejected.

I know someone who was rejected from LSE on Christmas Eve last year.
