Offers for 2025

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

DD has applied for two Durham courses (I have found out today - apparently she made a last minute switch away from Royal Holloway), and yesterday she received an offer from Durham for Visual Arts & Culture (AAB).

She's still waiting on Durham Liberal Arts, and now I'm wondering if she's scuppered her chances of that by applying to two courses at the same institution!

Durham was the last place DD heard from for liberal arts two years ago. It was either late April or early may before she heardHmm

thepurplepenguin · 07/01/2025 18:26

DD had an offer from Nottingham yesterday (one of her aspirational choices, she was surprised but delighted!). Just waiting on Exeter now.

RayonSunrise · 07/01/2025 18:40

@NCTDN Oh dear, I was afraid of that. DD is a fretter as well, she'll be worrying over it right up until she hears.

WombatChocolate · 07/01/2025 18:49

Often joint honours or courses like Liberal Arts which involve several departments take longer to offer. I don’t think applying for 2 degree courses at Durham will affect whether offered are received and each course application is individual and assessed on own merits.

I think generally Durham has offered a bit more quickly in the last cycle and this one, than previously. With the very popular over-subscribed courses, many students seemed to get offers in Jan, especially if they were top calibre applicants. Lots of offers seemed to be received between the Oxford and Cambridge offer dates - ie mid-late Jan. In earlier years, most of these candidates seemed to be waiting until the spring. It’s all anecdotal though.

NCTDN · 07/01/2025 22:03

I don't know. DD got all other four offers back for liberal arts within a couple of weeks of applying.

Durham seem quite happy with multiple applications, with no mention of only getting one offer, if any.

Ds just got an offer for maths from Durham. So that Manchester and Durham now. Just waiting to hear from Warwick, Bath and Birmingham. I know ds wants Warwick, since he has been there many times because his brother is there, but he is very happy so far

crouchendtigerr · 08/01/2025 00:20

Today I thought of his awful teacher at Primary who told him that he'd never amount to anything, he was just 5 years old. Look at him, I wish I could just shout at her. I'm so proud of him

What a terrible thing to be told at age 5! Some people are unbelievable in what they say and the damage it causes.
You must be so proud of your son! Well done to him. Hopefully the nasty teachers words are long gone from his memory.

LighthouseCat · 08/01/2025 15:01

@crouchendtigerr big congrats to your DC on his Durham offer. We're still also waiting on B'ham, Bath and Warwick for Maths. DD also v keen to go to Warwick. Did your DS do the TMUA or is he doing STEP?

CautiousLurker01 · 08/01/2025 16:12

Aaggh! School only submitted their bit of the UCAS application yesterday!!

But now the wait and tension begins… [chews fingernails to the quick!]

I am also beginning to worry my next child, who is doing AS levels in May, now needs to do TMUA as wasn’t even aware of it until the PP above!

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 08/01/2025 16:50

DD had an offer from Queens, Belfast today.. they are looking for the same as Nottingham: A and B in her English and French Advanced Highers (any way round).

So she's just waiting to hear from Edinburgh and St Andrews ( so they'll be ages) as she already has an unconditional offer from Stirling.

Of course she's now second guessing her course choice... have told her to hang fire till all offers I'm before she thinks about anything else... not even sure it's possible to change at this stage? ( she's applied for English Lit & French but is now thinking she'd rather do French and International Relations, which I think is only an option at her long shot choice ( St Andrews) and Queens, Belfast)

LighthouseCat · 08/01/2025 18:19

@CautiousLurker01 is your DC thinking of maths at Warwick? It's only this year that they made doing an entrance exam a requirement. Caught a few out. Nearly us in fact as it was only added to the website in May last year and we'd already noted down (the now out of date) entry requirements. DD just happened to look again, thankfully.

No thinking of economics mainly, or compsci. His tech college seem to have a relationship with Warwick so there will be a college mini bus trip in Sept. It’s a requirement for those courses too! He is having tutoring, so will check if they will support practice for it as I think he’ll have to sit it this year.

Ds is also waiting on Bath, Warwick and Birmingham. He's eager to get into Warwick, it is a lovely university

crouchendtigerr · 08/01/2025 18:45

Oh yes, Ds is doing TMUA, tomorrow, I'm very nervous for him, he's had a rough year

LighthouseCat · 08/01/2025 21:07

@crouchendtigerr good luck to your DS! Really hope it goes ok. I was so nervous for DD too. She did hers in October.

SingingAvocado · 09/01/2025 10:10

DD has firmed and insured today. She withdrew from York (where she was still on hold) and firmed with Southampton (ABB) and insured with Oxford Brookes (BBB) so Nottingham and Manchester were then automatically declined. She liked the unis (adores the University of Southampton) and the lecturers, not too far from home, and they are rated the first and second best for midwifery so she's very happy with her decision and the feeling that she can move forward now. It was a little scary pressing the button though!

happy2025 · 09/01/2025 10:51

@SingingAvocado - well done! Southampton is our top choice too. What's the deadline to commit your final 2 choices?

Glad to find another Southampton fan! Which subject? You've got ages: 14 May I think? (https://www.ucas.com/applying/after-you-apply/types-undergraduate-offers/replying-your-ucas-undergraduate-offers) DD wanted to be able to put away the uni stuff and focus on her A levels. We are hoping it will mean she can be further up the list for accommodation.

That's great - I think ds is going to firm and insure his imminently too - he's sure of his choices.

happy2025 · 09/01/2025 11:34

@SingingAvocado - Politics!
We are still waiting on 2 more Unis to offer but I doubt they will change our #1, but will change #2.
I've heard accommodation is one of Southampton's good points. Fingers crossed for both DDs!

jennylamb1 · 09/01/2025 11:47

Southampton is very good (biased because my BA and MA was there and I also work there). Lovely campus, excellent teaching and accommodation much easier to sort than places like London and Bristol.

jennylamb1 · 09/01/2025 11:48

Were there.
Forgive the typo.
