Starting a thread re: performing arts applicants for 2025. If one already exists, happy to be redirected!!

Anyone pressed 'send' on their applications yet? Curious as to timelines for initial responses and to submit self tapes....

Buckling in for a long and nervous journey!

Just following this thread as my DD was going through all this last year - totally empathise with all the stress and angst! She is now in her first year at EDA so happy to answer any questions. Good luck to all your DC it's a tough process.

Congratulations to your DD getting into EDA, I honestly think it’s my daughters dream school, housing situation puts me off though as every site I look at says they won’t rent to students. Does your DD live nearby or does she still stay at home? Is she enjoying the course?

Folkwhore · 12/01/2025 17:38

@Mrsg26 yes housing was an issue - she shares a flat in Hitchin which is where the previous premises were - it's a lovely town 4 mins on the train from Letchworth. EDA do not have any student housing - we spoke to a lot of letting agents and built relationships so they were ringing us as soon as properties came on the market. Letting agents would also put students in touch with each other. Some were more helpful than others however - you'll just need to ring around.

Some homeowners rent out rooms and EDA can put you in touch with them. I joined the local fb groups because sometimes things popped up on there.

It was a bit fraught but my advice would be to sort it as early as possible- some students were still not sorted in August (but everyone did get sorted eventually) Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth are all good places in terms of location.

In terms of the course - can't speak highly enough. Top notch teaching, very organised everything done properly. The new building is fabulous. So far so good.

Mine is just getting going with auditions. They've applied for a mix of straight MT and Actor-Musicianship. Has ArtsEd round 1 imminently and GSA next month. Then waiting to hear of dates for RCS MT and both courses at Mountview. Also waiting to hear if they get a recall for Rose Bruford following self-tape submission, so quite similar to you OP.

somewhereinsomerset · 30/01/2025 18:41

I wondered if there was a drama school thread for this year, always good to share the pain/joy. My DD doing it all again this year but has only applied to schools she really responded to last year - RADA, LAMDA, Royal Welsh, Guildhall. She did BOVTS' Foundation in the summer, loved it, and was gutted when their BA course went down. She's also got some universities as a backstop as she says she can't go through this again! I know the feeling! Good luck to everyone.

Ds is going for the dark side and applying to do tech.

Mrsg26 · 30/01/2025 22:00

We are in the thick of it all now, my daughter has applied for MT courses & has had one in person audition at PPA, she has Trinity Laban 2 weeks today then her recall for GSA on 22nd Feb. bird audition in March & emil dale recall in april. Also waiting on Urdang & Italia Conti to view her tapes but still got a while to wait yet. I wish they viewed as they came in and not based on submission dates.

Best of luck to everyone else going through this it is a rollercoaster of emotions!!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 30/01/2025 22:19

It is indeed a rollercoaster. Still waiting for news from Leeds which was 3 weeks ago tomorrow. GSA was last weekend and they were super quick to let DC know that they're on reserve for now and the list gets reviewed after every audition, so fingers crossed that turns into something! RB taking time to review self tapes - over 3 weeks now and they've definitely been viewed so hoping to hear news from there soon. I'm really no good at the waiting and DC very anxious to hear from Leeds as we know others have and it's currently her top choice.

So sad about BOVTS 😭

I think these kids are so resilient and brave to go through it all again! Well done to her!

👋 @Winginit73, fellow AM over here! RB are taking their time aren't they!?

With Rose Bruford I'd been thinking it's a bad sign that we haven't heard yet, so it's good to know it's more just their standard approach. sorry you're in the same boat waiting though!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 01/02/2025 11:58

We know of others too. Confident they are just being slow!

Well done on offers, even reserve at this stage is a good sign.

dd has her first audition today at RB, she was actually offered a BA last year, so a bit strange re- auditioning (she decided to take a Foundation MT at GSA instead). MT is her love, but she’s also beginning to think Acting is an option too!

last year I was going with her, so it feels strange to just be sat home waiting for news.

MimiGC · 04/02/2025 16:44

My daughter has applied to Leeds Conservatoire (amongst others) and has been invited to an interview. She couldn't make the date , so is waiting for an alternative to be offered. But, it transpires that she has applied for the wrong course ie Acting, when she wanted Musical Theatre with Acting. I'm not sure if she should tell them now or wait and see if she's offered a place, then tell them.

I would give them a ring and ask. Did she submit a self tape, as I know Leeds MT do self tapes and recalls, not sure about the MT with Acting. They may say they will switch it for her, as it could be different tutors in the audition if she continued with the Acting.

MimiGC · 04/02/2025 19:44

Yes, she submitted a self tape and has been invited to a recall audition. The admissions office never answer their phone or call you back when you leave a message. So it would have to be done by email and I think she would rather see how the audition goes first...hard to know what's best...

@MimiGC the audition requirements are quite different for MT and acting, so if she specifically wants MT then you will need to resolve this ahead of the audition. I can't imagine they will switch from acting to MT without hearing her sing and seeing her dance at audition.

And feeling your pain regarding their poor communication!! DC was expecting to hear their audition outcome over a week ago and we know others heard within the first week! We've sent an email to check there hasn't been a technical issue or lost email but they just don't reply!

This will be us next academic year. Am I right in thinking application process starts in September?

I think applications actually open in July! But we didn't submit applications until November and the final deadline was actually only last week...

They really need to start thinking now about where they may want to apply, as there are some open days before they break up for the summer and it is a good idea to go and see a campus/facilities. For example, Mountview have Open Days in Feb and April. Chichester and GSA June.

UCAS applications have to be in by end of January the year you would start. Some colleges don’t go via UCAS, you apply direct, but only a few. You can apply for conservatoires on UCAS too, so you get extra choices.

There is some debate on whether it’s better to get auditions in early, and some like Conti get back quickly and you may know by Christmas, whilst some others (LIPA in our experience) will still make you wait, months, which is maddening.

My dd has only just started auditions now, where some of her cohort have already had theirs, she still has to submit a tape too, so the process can be a long one. At least her waiting might be shorter. Last year Mountview didn’t hold some auditions until middle of June and lots of people had already accepted offers, so were cancelling (my dd didn’t go to her recall).

This is our third year now as dd got two offers her first year, decided to defer, take a year out, decided she didn’t want the deferred place and reauditioned, turning down two BA offers to do a a foundation! I just go with the flow now and no longer get worked up by it all! It’s a brutal process.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 05/02/2025 08:12

@Paddlinglikehell all kudos to you (and even more to your DD!!!) - I'm not sure my nerves could take this 3 years in a row!!!

I have to admit, it was stressful, particularly when after her gap year, she decided that the place she had accepted and deferred wasn’t what she wanted and had to turn it down to reapply in UCAS. I was terrified she would get nothing.

Then when she got two offers - PPA and Rose B and didn’t bother with Conti or a Mountview recalls turning them down for a Foundation, I was inside screaming! There is of course the risk she gets no offers at all for her BA this time, in which case I think she’s going to work the summer (she worked in Entertainments last summer at a holiday resort and rethink, the holiday resort offered her a permanent job and she has a couple of things in the pipeline with an agency, but I think because I’m not going to auditions with her, I am one step away.

However, yesterday she said she possibly would apply again next year if something didn’t come along!!! She’s whittled it down to only 5 places this time so I’ve everything crossed, but really just letting her get on with it, I’m sort of done 😂

pollyp109 · 05/02/2025 18:12

Hi there, I have my son on the reserve list for ArtsEd. Are there chances of him getting an offer? He knows a couple of people that were on reserve. Can they accept people throughout the year ?

Newgirls · 05/02/2025 18:16

Yes he has a good chance as people can get more than one offer or defer. Good luck to him

Truetoself · 05/02/2025 18:43

Thanks @Paddlinglikehell . I just assumed that there is little point in going to open days as the entry is so competitive, that you don't often get to pick the place as in the place picks you?
