Starting a thread re: performing arts applicants for 2025. If one already exists, happy to be redirected!!

Anyone pressed 'send' on their applications yet? Curious as to timelines for initial responses and to submit self tapes....

Buckling in for a long and nervous journey!

They are brilliant for showreels. Shame drama schools are so short-sighted about material really, but there are one or two that need dragging into the 21st Century.

It seems to be some allow it, others don’t, e.g GSA do allow it, Mountview don’t.

Re. monologues - and this is just my opinion - I'm not sure how helpful it is to look in books or online for pre-curated monologues, unless your YP is willing to go away and research and read the play they come from. It has to appeal to your YP, of course, but they also need to understand the context of the speech within the narrative. When DS was applying 3 years ago we found it easier to think about plays he had been in or watched, and then see if there were any obvious monologues in them, or even whether one could be created by joining a few shorter speeches together. It just meant he had a monologue he really liked and enjoyed performing, and could talk about with some knowledge.
