Starting a thread re: performing arts applicants for 2025. If one already exists, happy to be redirected!!

Anyone pressed 'send' on their applications yet? Curious as to timelines for initial responses and to submit self tapes....

Buckling in for a long and nervous journey!

@lamada - another one to add to the list for MT would be Trinity Laban.

DD has recall from her self tape for GSA MT today. They’re obviously getting through them.

lamada · 14/02/2025 16:44

Friend of DD has been offered a place at Bird college, I need to check that one out.

That’s fab news @Paddlinglikehell. Congratulations to your DD 👏👏. I’m a bit confused though, as you said on 6 Feb she had an offer on the day from GSA. Did you mean somewhere else? 😂

The offer on the day was for Acting - Applied/Contemporary. Her passion is MT!

Don’t worry, I’m confused too, trying to keep up! It’s a minefield and a brutal process!😂

Ah ok, I’m with it now! She’s doing really well. Sounds like she’ll have some difficult decisions to make 🤞🏻

Any queries let me know

Bird is excellent, particularly if you’re a dancer. It’s a little out of London too.l, near Rose Bruford.

DD has a friend there and she’s in student accommodation near Greenwich, but she loves it

lamada · 15/02/2025 11:26

DD's friend is an amazing dancer with loads of experience, so that makes sense, she is a great all rounder. DD not so experienced on the dance front, but will check Bird out as an option.

We have signed up for the Urdang 5 day intensive, but no accommodation option, which means I will need to stay with her..

Would anyone know if there are any 3 or 4 week residential summer intensives in the UK? everything I am finding is only one week and a lot of them with no residential option..

The US have loads of 4 to 6 week residential intensives, but very costly even before the cost of flights etc.

Mountview do one, but the dates haven’t been announced yet: www.mountview.org.uk/courses/course/summer-intensive-musical-theatre/

Thanks, yes have seen that one and it looks great, but no residential option offered, and it sounds like they don't help with facilitating putting students in touch with each other to arrange shared accommodation I don't fancy having to spend 3 weeks of my summer holidays in London, but I will keep an eye and get her to apply anyway.

Thanks again.

Ah ok. I’ve only seen one week courses with accommodation - Trinity Laban do various disciplines. There’s also West End Stage but I don’t know what the standard of teaching is like.

Newgirls · 15/02/2025 12:01

NYMT and BYMT do two week residentials in musical theatre shows. Mine did a BYMT course and the show was really excellent

lamada · 15/02/2025 12:16

That was the first summer intensive she ever did about 3 years ago when she was 14, and I can confirm it was not great, she said it felt like a babysitting service and loads of time hanging around doing absolutely nothing. The only part of it she loved was the masterclass they did with some west end actors and the short show they put on at the end of the week.

My daughter did that a couple of times. I'm not sure about how much she learnt but she loved the experience, being away from home, staying in the Guildhall bedrooms, with like-minded people.

Arts Ed do a week long one and GSA do a couple of pre audition weekends.

DD was suggested at the GSA one to change her song, which she did. After that she started getting recalls, so very useful.

Keep an eye on their websites. They’re not residential but it was easy to find accommodation nearby for both.

The audition process is the U.K., songs and monologues are very different from the US.

Usw the money you would have used for flights for a good air bnb or hotel.

Has anyone heard of Arts1 in Milton Keynes?

My daughter is there for 6th form. I can’t speak to the degree course specifically, but I could not recommend the 6th form highly enough and H says the degree students there are really happy. She would love to stay on for degree. My daughter has already changed and developed so much as a performer and I really rate all their teaching staff. The principal is incredible.

of course down sides are the fees and the fact that it doesn’t have a reputation yet, but I am really impressed with the quality of training.

H moved there (2 hours from home) for 6th form and the pastoral support has been incredible too.

Operagirl1 · 17/02/2025 13:47

My DD is on a Foundation year at ArtsEd and now we have to go through the whole auditioning process again. Glad to have all your company again. Really appreciated it last year as it was so stressful and good to get support from everyone on here going through the same thing. Good luck to all the DC

Redbookworm · 17/02/2025 18:59

Does anyone know anything about Associated Studios in London?

My son has an audition there next month for the 2 year BA musical theatre professional performance course.
He actually applied by accident as thought he was applying for a course at Chichester!

Comefromaway · 17/02/2025 19:23

My dc did a year at Associated.

Truetoself · 17/02/2025 19:29

Thanks @Thespymum . Some of the teachers did a workshop at DD school and that's what she said - she was impressed with the teachers

Hi. I remember you from last year.

My DD is doing a foundation MT at GSA, sadly no guarantees she’ll get on the BA. In fact only one from their group (25 or so) has been offered a place so far and that’s waitlisted.

I think she’s got an Arts Ed coming up. It’s hard going through it all again (3rd time!!)

Good luck!

Truetoself · 19/02/2025 05:11

Do any colleges have auditions during the school holidays? Wondering when we can safely book holidays.

I didn't realise that you would need to re audition if you do foundation. I thought foundation was for people who needed further training before BA but they would be accepted for the BA

Newgirls · 19/02/2025 08:31

The foundations are good in themselves but yes no guarantee at all for getting into the BA courses.

Newgirls · 19/02/2025 08:33

Holidays - feb half term is prob tricky for booking holidays as auditions can be feb weekends. I think by Easter most are done (the ucas ones) but it would be a risk for some courses (recalls etc)
