Starting a thread re: performing arts applicants for 2025. If one already exists, happy to be redirected!!

Anyone pressed 'send' on their applications yet? Curious as to timelines for initial responses and to submit self tapes....

Buckling in for a long and nervous journey!

Do any colleges have auditions during the school holidays? Wondering when we can safely book holidays.

I didn't realise that you would need to re audition if you do foundation. I thought foundation was for people who needed further training before BA but they would be accepted for the BA

if you mean the summer holidays, then I think you would be fine to book to go away. I know Mountview foundation recalls are late (June), but I think they are the latest, unless anyone knows any different.

Yes, unfortunately doing a school’s foundation course means no guarantee of getting into that school’s degree course. However, PPA do a course that is foundation plus degree (4 years), so that is a guaranteed progression (as long as you pass the foundation).

My daughter did the foundation at BOVTS and, to be fair, they were clear at the start that this would have no bearing on getting into the BA Course. Not that it mattered much as the BA Course doesn't exist any more!

PPA do offer ‘foundation with degree’ DD was offered that last year, but chose to go to GSA.

However, she has a friend who took the offer, but has been told now, there is no automatic guarantee to go into the BA, I think she said because of change in tutors, I’m not sure of the full details. So now a few of that foundation group have been told they won’t be going through, despite what they were offered. I suggested that maybe they hadn’t worked hard or there were some issues with them and apparently not.

I’ll will ask DD more details, because it seems very unfair, I struggle to believe they haven’t passed the foundation, as it’s mostly based on practical and this person in question went to a PA 6th form too.

A similar thing happened to my child at another institution. She was told that she was not quite ready for the funded course but could do an internal diploma year and as long as she passed would progress onto the funded course. However in the spring term she was told that she was not able to progress onto the funded course but instead was offered a 2nd non funded advanced diploma year where she would be in all the same classes as the funded course. We could not afford this financially so she had to leave.

Oh gosh, that seems unfair. My DD was also offered the foundation plus degree at PPA but chose to do foundation at Emil Dale.

I did wonder how PPA would manage their courses if all those offered the 4 year stayed on, as then they would, in theory, already be full for degree the following year. Unless they were going to double their numbers.

Hello all

My youngest daughter is currently going through this process - I don't think roller coaster covers it! She has a firm offer from TBA in Brighton and seems keen - does anyone know anything about this one? Just had Trinity Laban and PPA, and Italia Conti coming up soon...

Hi, apologies if this has already been asked. This is my third year of supporting drama school applications. Son is on LIPA’s reserve list for BA Acting and a couple more recall’s to go. Does anyone have experience of the reserve lists please and whether an offer came through. Thanks so much.

Newgirls · 20/02/2025 09:34

I know of reserves getting a place in sept so anything can happen.

Waving from the reserve list for GSA 😬🤞🏻👋

My daughter was on the reserve list at Oxford School of Drama and an offer came through. She'd already taken the Foundation offer at ArtsEd though so she didn't go there

Ok, DC auditioned for actor muso at Leeds on 11th Jan. Was told on the day they would 'made their decisions on the day' and should be around 10-15 days to hear. We know of 3 people that got a yes within the week. My DC still hasn't heard so sent a (very well crafted and polite) email 3 weeks ago to check there hadn't been a problem or oversight. Got an auto response saying they aimed to respond in 48 hours. Still nothing.

Would you call admissions in our situation?

DC very anxious as they thought it went really well and the panel were almost overly positive towards them so can't fathom what's gone wrong. It's really affecting their confidence going into other processes.

I would definitely call as it's been a while. My daughter didn't hear about an audition with BYMT for a very long time. I hummed and hahed about calling them. When I finally got round to it, it turned out they had forgotten to contact her and she had a place. I definitely wouldn't leave it any longer

Comefromaway · 20/02/2025 17:20

I think I would contact them.

Newgirls · 20/02/2025 18:23

Could it be that she is being held in reserve in some way? Until they hear back from others?

It could be, but there is no way to tell - if that's the case I wish they'd say! Other places are very clear about this.

I don't get why they'd tell them they'd made their decisions and the time frame to expect a reply and then not say if it's a reserve situation.

does it look like they still have lots of auditions to do?

hard to guess isn’t it. I always think a no is fast and a yes can take a while

Newgirls · 20/02/2025 20:30

I wonder with actor muso they are waiting to decide between people who play the same instrument too?

no harm in asking im sure

I would try to contact them, but my experience with Leeds this year is that they literally never answer the phone in the Admissions office (and last time I looked at their website- few days ago- it said there was a problem with their phone system, so don't ring). And it is also very hit and miss as to whether they reply to emails or not. It's been extremely frustrating. But you might have better luck, so give it a try, you've nothing to lose.

Comefromaway · 21/02/2025 10:09

Did your child sort out the MT/acting change?

doesanybodyhaveamap · 21/02/2025 10:09

@MimiGC kind of reassured that it's not just us having difficulty! But so unfair on these kids.

Not really. We started an email exchange, but it petered out and now they are not replying...hugely frustrating.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 21/02/2025 12:41

Well I called but it's gone straight to voicemail. Left a message and I've sent a follow up email. Guess there's nothing more we can do now 🤷‍♀️

Let us know how you get on.
I agree it's very hard and unfair on the youngsters who are applying. This is a key point in the application cycle and to be so unresponsive is very poor. It makes me wonder what the administration and support is like once students are there?

Ds had one interview where they said he'd hear by the end of the week. It was about a month later that he heard with a lower than (he) expected offer. So it might be good news still. I thought it was going to be bad news by that point.
