Starting a thread re: performing arts applicants for 2025. If one already exists, happy to be redirected!!

Anyone pressed 'send' on their applications yet? Curious as to timelines for initial responses and to submit self tapes....

Buckling in for a long and nervous journey!

unfortunately, yes, they are introducing top up fees.

There are still quite a few places where everything IS covered by student finance though. I’d be looking at Bird, Urdang, GSA, Leeds Conservatoire & Performers.

And maybe Laban and Royal Welsh.

Watching Amber Davies on strictly- if it wasn’t for winning love island would she have got all the west end roles she did?

i hate it that so much of our DC’s success is not goign to be based on their talent

Newgirls · 17/10/2025 18:29

sad but true - media fame will help catapult a career

doesanybodyhaveamap · 17/10/2025 19:08

Sorry I don’t get it? Sure Amber got a bit of attention because of Love Island but that doesn’t mean she’s not talented. She trained just the same way most of our kids are now training. My DC has never seen a single episode of LI but is obsessed with Amber having seen her in Gatsby - we had no idea who she was until then. And we’re now watching and following her on strictly because of Gatsby…. Maybe LI was a lucky break for her, and certainly helped boost her profile, but ultimately she made the best of an opportunity before her - which anyone would do. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve her success.

She actually took a massive gamble as she was offered a role in Hairspray & turned it down for Love Island.

her older sister has also been in loads of shows.

Ok maybe I am just not good at tale t spotting 🙈

Hi everyone, could really do with some advice. My DD did a Foundation in Acting course at ArtsEd and is now on a gap year while she decides what to do next. She is in NYT and has an agent. She has been booked to perform in The Magical Christmas Adventure in the lead up to Christmas and her rehearsals start on 19 November. However, although she was given a contract to sign, communication has been almost non-existent. She hasn't a clue where she will be staying and hasn't received a script or any further details. No costume fittings, nothing. Any time she asks a question, there is no response. Has anyone else had an experience like this? This was booked through the Mandy website but her agent is aware of it. She tried to contact the company too but didn't get a reply. I've looked online and it definitely exists and I've found a couple of actors who have it on their cv. I thought of contacting one of them to find out what it was like. Am I over-reacting?? As a retired performer myself, it all seems very odd.

Comefromaway · 04/11/2025 13:07

I've had a search on an actors group and the company has been going for several years now and doesn't seem to have been blacklisted by the group. Looks like they are based in Newbury.

Comefromaway · 04/11/2025 13:18

IS it the one at 4Kingdoms Adventure Park? I have seem a few mentions of it from previous years and it looks like they have accommodation on site?

Operagirl1 · 04/11/2025 13:49

Yes, it's the 4Kingdoms Adventure Park

Operagirl1 · 04/11/2025 13:53

Can you send me a link to the actors group? Thanks for your help xx

Similar is fired at Hannah Lowther, but with Tik Tok. Hannah is a grafter - taught daughter my DD tap dancing whilst she was training.
But how many people could move from dance captain and cover 2 roles to covering a 3rd role with 3 hours notice. She is super lovely and is best friends with a dance teacher at Conti so when DD’s year did a Six number in their summer show she popped in and watched a rehearsal and gave them some queen tips.
Having seen Amber in Gatsby she was incredible in particular the New Money number such stamina belting it out and sustaining that dance routine.
These new performers who have huge social media followings give the shows massive boosts as they are not paid to show the behind the scenes stuff.

Yes, it's the 4Kingdoms Adventure Park

It’s in a village - Headley about 5 miles outside Newbury on the main bus route from Newbury to Basingstoke. I know nothing about the performance side used to be their vet when they were children’s Action Farm - not the same owners.
One of the directors lives next door and his property has an annex as a friend used to live there, so that could be the accommodation.

Operagirl1 · 15/11/2025 10:48

Thank you for that info. My daughter starts rehearsing on Wednesday and we still have only scant information from the organisers.

lamada · 04/12/2025 22:00

I checked that website out, something feels off about it, to be honest !

Be careful, so many scams around these days.

Operagirl1 · 05/12/2025 09:37

Thank you, that is so kind of you. It is an absolute nightmare choosing a monologue, particularly a contemporary one. We will give this a try. 😊

I had to give my email to get to the vault, but I didn’t get access to anything, so no monologue library.

I looked at the paid options and I was immediately wary when the prices are not listed, you need to go right to the page to pay, inputting your details and getting a stripelink to bring you to the final payment page and only then do you get to see the price in very small writing. So having already foolishly input the stripelink, it made me concerned it was a scam.

I do need to check my CC account to make sure there is no fraud on it, I don’t know if it’s a scam, but it’s not very transparent, which always leaves an uneasy feeling. So be careful, also there are other websites with very similar names.

A poster a few weeks ago suggested some great books to buy for monologue suggestions, I bought them and DD has gone through them but the website sounded a great option, but I don’t think its what it purports to be.

mimbleandlittlemy · 05/12/2025 10:27

The BBC have an amazing resource in their Script Library, brilliant for showreel material and contemporary monologues, so if there was something appropriate you've seen on a BBC show you think would work, it's worth looking to see if the scripts are up there:

www.bbc.co.uk/writers/scripts/

lamada · 05/12/2025 10:40

The Instagram account for that actors business network has not been active for 18 months, I regret going on the website now, it certainly has all the feels of something dodgy. Grrrrr, I never learn 😩😩😩

Thanks for that link @mimbleandlittlemy.
