University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

@Fruitygal Ha, yes! 😅
I'm telling him to prepare to find work for a year off. He is a lot more patient than me though, and still optimistic..

Fruitygal · 07/02/2022 21:14

Congrats @NinaProudman2022 - what’s it for ?

NinaProudman2022 · 07/02/2022 22:05

Physics

threestars · 07/02/2022 22:18

Well done to your son! @NinaProudman2022

NCTDN · 07/02/2022 22:20

@threestars DD has heard from Warwick but for liberal arts. Still waiting on Durham.

Fruitygal · 07/02/2022 22:50

@NinaProudman2022 will it be his firm ?

Wordlewobble · 08/02/2022 06:56

Yes I think so. Still waiting on St Andrews but I think he will probably firm Durham tonight and forget about Sr Andrews (unless by some miracle they also offer today then he maybe in a quandary).

Chewbecca · 08/02/2022 08:26

I was reading yesterday that St Andrews waited until May last year to send out some of their offers - just 2 days before the deadline! From their perspective, I guess it sifts out the students who wouldn’t have firmed them anyway but seems a little arrogant and unhelpful to those whose first choice is St A.

Nevertheless, DS is waiting for a St A decision but we are now going to offer holder days for his next favourite 2 places (Nottingham & Birmingham) to decide which he will firm if St A rejects so the trips could be a complete waste of time & money! Hopefully they will teach us something & we will have a nice city break anyway.

Congratulations to your son @NinaProudman2022 ! Has your son decided on a college choice yet? My son wants SC so opted for South as his top choice, which I imagine he stands a good chance of getting as the catered colleges seem to be more popular

Lennybenny · 08/02/2022 20:28

Anyone heard from Southampton and Warwick? We've got the other 3 back.

Dd heard from Southampton last week for English, I think they offered here AAC (I may have got that wrong). Still waiting in Exeter.
NCTDN · 08/02/2022 21:27

@Lennybenny what subject?

Alsoplayspiccolo · 08/02/2022 21:45

LennyBenny, DD had an offer from Southampton last week for English and film ABB

vm71 · 08/02/2022 22:51

DS just received an offer from Bristol for International Business Management with Study Abroad, conditional A*AB. He had applied 2 weeks ago.
Has anyone received something similar? We just got the update from UCAS, nothing from the university yet.

mich101 · 09/02/2022 00:12

@Lennybenny depends what subject? Son got Warwick offer before Christmas for engineering.
Daughter in 1st year at Warwick doing English & theatre. When she applied, she heard in the December with an interview date for the January, then got offer a week after interview

NCTDN · 09/02/2022 07:11

@mich101 it's really interesting when siblings choose to go to the same uni.

Siriusmuggle · 09/02/2022 07:51

These offers all sound so high. They’d be unobtainable for my child. His baselines are 3Bs but his predictions are lower at the moment. I’m thankful that conservatoires require lower grades!

Fruitygal · 09/02/2022 08:43

@Siriusmuggle my DSs went to uni in 2017/2018 and their grades were B/C area both got great degrees and now starting good careers. No one asks what you got for ALevel once the degree is completed.

mich101 · 09/02/2022 10:54

@NCTDN haha, son applied and got offer for Warwick (where his sister is) but the fact she is there put him off 🤣 he has firmed and chosen insurance elsewhere

Lovemusic33 · 09/02/2022 11:37

My dd has been offered B,B,C for Bath, its probably where she will chose to go despite her predicted grades being A*,A,B (the B is realisticly a C).

Most of dd's offers have been B,B,C, one B,C,C, there are many options for students that are not expecting A's.

Wordlewobble · 09/02/2022 12:28

@mich101 - South and Josephine Butler and the other hill colleges are among his top choices too as he wants self catering, doesn’t want to share a room (if poss) and isn’t too bothered about the older colleges. But he has ranked them all (the latter ones randomly).

Tree543 · 09/02/2022 12:28

Are the offers your dc are getting the same as the typical offers on the uni websites? (Assuming they arent contextual offers).

My ds is in year 12 and we are looking ahead. Dont want to apply to courses if the offers are higher than we are expecting them to be.

beenrumbled · 09/02/2022 13:08

DDs offers all match the information on courses on the University websites and prospectuses.

TequilaShot · 09/02/2022 13:29

Out of 5 offers, 2 have been higher than stated on their websites and on UCAS.

Chewbecca · 09/02/2022 15:43

Same as stated.
Where there was a range on the website DS has one offer at the upper end (offer = AAA when it stated AAA-AAB) and one was at the lower end (offer = BBB when it stated ABB-BBB).

We have interpreted that, probably wrongly, as how much they like him!
